  1. Suppliers can be a mercenary bunch. If it's a choice between A - kissing all your money goodbye or B - kissing all your money goodbye and maybe make a bit of profit back by continuing to supply some will take the second option. Especially with a company capable of doing some turnover with them.
  2. I have a feeling it will pop up again under another name in the same group and leaving all the supplier debt with GAK
  3. You have to cease trading i believe even if its just temporary until the process is underway
  4. A friend in the biz just told me that GAK in Brighton has just gone pop...... Sad times
  5. Snagged a gig bag from Lee All amazing thanks, arrived real quick Recommended!
  6. Thank you. Susie was a borrowed singer that night and she's awesome. It was the first time we had played the song as well. Just learned at home and hoped for the best at the gig. Worked ok, I'm really quite proud of it
  7. It's hard to describe. If I played harder with a pick they sort of got less dynamic and didnt open out . It was through headphones so the difference was quite pronounced. The Barts through the same phones and played the same way just got bigger and gnarlier. They were less polite I suppose. The A4 Plus can be found used for about £400 and is a bargain. The Ultras are still quite pricey used I think.
  8. I tried out the Cort A4 Ultra with the Fishman pickups a couple of years ago. Absolutely loved the bass itself - the neck was perfect for me (kind of jazzy width but with a flat d profile that felt sublime and instantly comfortable) the bass felt light on a strap and the body shape is really comfortable. Just didn't quite gel with the pickups/preamp though. I thought I would but they seemed to have a bit of a compressed dynamic to them. The sales guy suggested I try the next model down with Bartolinis in it (A4 Plus FMMH) and I ended up buying that one instead. It was an amazing bass and I would have another one like a shot. The sound was really alive and just worked for me - even though people slate the Barts I really liked them in that bass. They seemed to have a more open sound than the Fishmans. Here it is below in action...you'll see what I mean as the bass is quite high in the mix even though it's just camera phone footage in a pub
  9. Now £550 Bought from Bass Direct on NYE so only 3 months old. I went to get a cabinet and came back with this puppy too (it followed me home...) Very light home use and 2 trips to the studio so it's in immaculate condition. Comes with the nice GR carry bag and the original packaging. 800 watts into 4 ohms Built in tuner Switchable high and low minds EQ defeatable Aux in and headphones out with separate volume Star Wars lighting (which you can switch off) Silent studio mode to switch the fan off You can collect from me (Herts/Essex border) or I can probably deliver personally in bits of the South East from Norfolk to Bucks to London to the south of Kent. Happy to post at your risk and cost. Probably not interested in trades but you never know, it's always worth an ask... Thanks for looking 🙂
  10. Now sold D'Addario Pro Steel EPS170S short scale 4 string set for sale 45-65-80-100 gauge New and unopened Price includes mainland UK postage or you can collect if preferred
  11. The BB800 was the best class D amp I've ever had. Bottomless clean power. I really fancy trying the newer one with the 'proper' tone controls
  12. I've always found that, when new, Elixirs of any variety sound like 6 gig old versions of their nickel or stainless cousins.
  13. The Musicman style truss rod adjustment wheel at the base of the neck should be mandatory on every bass.
  14. Now sold Bought on NYE so just 3 months old, comes with the nice gig bag and all tags/tools present. Home use and 2 rehearsals only. Bought as an experiment to see if I can get on with 5 string Fendery type things. I can't but it's a bloody lovely bass nonetheless. Spec wise it's a bit of a mongrel. Precision body (so smaller than a jazz) but jazzy electronics. 2 active single coil MarkBass pickups wired Volume, Volume and Passive Tone. 3 band active MarkBass EQ and the passive EQ works with this too. Pull the tone control to switch to passive mode. Does P bass sounds and lovely burpy J bass stuff. It's a very resonant bass and sounds huge. Alder body, vintage maple tinted neck and board. Binding and block inlays. The neck is gloss but totally non sticky. Feels great. Weight is 4kg/8.6lbs on the luggage scales so it's pretty light. Collection preferred from near Harlow, Essex although I do travel around the SE of England and I'll be in the Midlands later this week for work if anyone wanted to meet up. I have the shipping box so can post but at your arrangement and risk.
  15. 2 months away. You'll have time to learn half a verse of one of their other songs then 🤣
  16. A brave man!!!! Good luck with it. When's the gig?
  17. I had to Google him......he's a proper monster isn't he! Love it. Here's a link to a tutorial. Classic Sterling tone there. As mentioned above, whack it through an SVT or something valvey to give the bottom end some girth and add some drive and it's there.
  18. I think you're just used to a Precision and the USA Sterling has a very different inherent sound. Its worlds away from a Fender P sound. I'm exactly the opposite - I prefer modern active basses and just never seem to bond with Fendery type things. Having had both USA Sterlings and an SB14 (which is very very close to a USA in every aspect) they can have quite a cold clicky and clinical sound from the ceramic pickup which you can struggle to dial out. Even a Stingray sounds noticeably different because of the alnico pickup and can get pretty vintage sounding with the 2 band version. Are you sure the chap you saw had a Sterling and not a Stingray? They can look pretty similar from a distance. But I wouldn't waste time and money on the modding options, you'll only devalue what you have and it still won't quite do what you want it to. Just move it on and try something else...
  19. Strings and Beyond (USA) have twin packs of Daddario XL Nickels for $19.99 at the moment. So about £7.55 a set... https://www.stringsandbeyond.com/flash-sale-on-daddario-bass-twin-packs.html They take about 10 days to arrive in my experience. I've bought loads of strings from them over the years.
  20. Firstly, sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my dad last August and it still hits hard even though we were all kind of prepared for it Less importantly, I bought a GR Aerotech AT212 cab a few months back with the official cover and it sounds like it's the same as yours. The cutout doesn't match up with the handle position. Still perfectly useable but if you have OCD it may be a problem. I just don't look at it......
  21. My thoughts exactly. Today's £1000/£1500 new basses were selling for around £500 used just a couple of years ago. Well worth £500 but not £1000 in my opinion. The Sterling/EBMM analogy is spot on (I've had quite a few of both price points) There's definitely a difference in feel and finishing with the American versions and they're around for £1500 used now. When the Sterling versions were £600 new that represented good value but at over a grand I don't think they are anymore. And you'll lose your shirt if you move it on.
