1. Just enough chordal technique to make the song work. I didn't like the tone he was getting though. I wish he'd used something a little brighter for solo playing. Have to confess I've been a closet Abe Laboriel fan for a while. The CHiP's TV series was formulaic and boring but he did some incredible playing on the incidental music in the 70's after pwning the original composer. The producers apparently left him to his own devices in the studio! You can hear him on the original theme tune here, its not as flashy as the incidental stuff but he's funky as hell:
2. Baldy, its easy for us to simply change your nick name. You don't have to create a new profile.
3.
Basically i wanted to give a shout out to Kev and say that if anyone needs parts for their musicman he is the guy to speak to!!
Yeah I've had a number of dealings with him and he's solid gold - unfailingly polite, helpful, prompt and informative. I've recommended him by name to others on the pre BC forums.
4.
On t.v this week, i have bassically been noticing 8x10s AMPEGS AND ASHDOWNS
They're mostly hire rigs. For a loud amp I'd suggest GK if you would like a warm, clean and aggressive sound. Otherwise a Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ is well worth considering if you can handle lugging it to a gig. Markbass are pretty loud too.

New Basschat Skin

Thanks for your kind comments guys, we're glad everyone likes it! Yes the bass is my Celinder - it had to be a black bass photographed in a very specific manner so the shadow was in the right place, so to save time I did the photography myself. The original source image is here:
Although I would like to complain about the fingerprint/marks on the left of the pictured Jazz
I wiped the bass down before photographing it. It looks like something that might have been reflected in the finish.
7. Something about raising environmental awareness of pop stars. Then they get to show everyone else how aware they are by putting a concert on.
8. We have now switched over to the new Basschat skin. It has been tested on IE 6/7, Firefox, Safari and Camino. Please reply here or PM phatmonkey if you have any feedback/problems or find any bugs, especially if you are using a browser we haven't tested. Thanks!
Oxblood, i can give you a lift form Ruislip Central line, if you want, but my car is totally impractical for anything more than a bass or 2!!! Trev.
Alternatively Ken if you can make it to Stamford Brook on the District line, I can pick you up. Space shouldn't be a problem as my car is an estate. Since you have to come over on the underground I know its not really going to offer more convenience than taking the train but the offer is there if you are interested.
10.
As far as I can make out, he was holding his thumb and finger together as if he had a pick and strumming near the end of the neck
and bleeding a bit, if the rumours are true.
11.
Ok.. I think I am officially lusting for a headless Shuker now! Nice pics Jon!!
Me too, I've been talking to Jon about it this week. What a stunning piece of maple on top. Jon was right about it looking like you could swim in it.
12.
Hi CK - How much for the bridge unit? (assuming it's for sale of course).
PM'd
13. and its been duly set up. We'll see how it goes over the next couple of months.
14. 'k, in which case you almost certainly won't have the shorting problem I described. The other thing is that the contacts might be bent from wear and tear.
15. I can't get along slapping on a 6, I tend to use 4's and 5's instead. Les Claypool is another player who slaps well on a fretless Carl Thompson 6 of all things.
16. alternatively you might want to check that the output jack isn't shorting against the cavity shielding - those control routings are far from generous.
17. well count me in. BTW Dave, replies to this thread, or by another medium?
18. Keys - Rosie Gaines drums - Poogie Bell bass - Meshell Nedgeocello guitar - Alan Muphy Vocals -Freddie Mercury
19. Yes, its an integrated 5 string unit rather than separate units.
20. The Sandbergs are very different from Warwick basses, there's no comparison really. A Basic 5 like that shown would set you back about £700 from Thomann. That's about the same price as a used SR5 and they're every bit as good in terms of spec! http://www.thomann.de/gb/sandberg_basic5_bl.htm
21. The bass fanatic side of things is pretty much covered by Bassday as far as I can see. Its well resourced and they do a fantastic job of organising it as well.
22. You probably want one of these made by Sandberg: Cheaper and some might say more versatile than the equivalent SR5. You can ask for minor custom tweaks too if they don't involve a lot of work.
23. Sticking my project managers hat on for a sec, a bit of risk management might be a good idea - the ol' Avoid/Offset/Mitigate/Manage bit. PLUS: We need a venue. We need someone to pay for everything at risk (at least until the expenses can be recouped). We need a reason for people to come and pay us money. We need people to take responsibility for organising and delivering it. This is going to be very difficult unless well organised and people must be reliable - not give up when it gets stressful or frustrating. Lets also understand what is feasible given the resources we have for this forum.
24. I remember my Dad's 1970's Readers Digest DIY manual had a set of pages on wood colour which would have answered that question perfectly. Its in NZ now unfortunately and I don't have the most recent version to check. However you could probably answer that question by wiping half of one face of each piece of wood with some meths or white spirit.
25. I have a black 5 string ABM bridge unit if you're interested - the finish is a little worn but it works fine. You could get a Steinberger headpiece off Ebay which allows you to anchor the strings either using an allen key and nut, or using DB end strings.
