1. I switched to bass from drums after getting injured wrists playing high school volleyball. Got the local multi instrumentalist teacher to show me the basics of bass and then I left him after a few months and went to a specialist bass teacher. Ironically, my first lesson with him was the week that Jaco died and he opened my eyes up to Jaco, Mark King, Stanley Clarke, Flea etc. The rest of the time I was just jamming with other musicians, I've never really had specialist lessons since then - it probably shows! lol
2. I've asked Jon for the mono rail units - same as used by Status. Are they made by ABM? I've also asked him where the onboard tuner is going! (Can't see any allowance for it in the top horn yet - hope it hasn't been forgotten!)
3. New pics at last! Taken by myself on Friday while Jon was teaching me how to refret my guitar neck. Its roughly shaped and already feels great for ergonomics, although it seems a little heavier than Johngh's. Perhaps because of the heavy mahogany body wings? You can see the chambering in the top wing already. The bass has matching control cavity covers cut from the rear facing for the back and the electric blue LED's are fully functional too!
4. lol Looks like a story that you can dine out on for years!
5. If compression was already on the amp, a pitch shifter. That would give me a detune chorus and octaves.
6. I've found myself going from thin neck profiles to chunky profiles because of the cramping issue on my left hand. The neck I cramped on most was a super slim Modulus Quantum neck. It felt like the angle of my fingers was too shallow and my muscles got tired very easily. I get less cramping on more substantial necks and it feels like my fingers are at a more natural angle in relation to my palm. Because I don't have hitchhikers thumbs, my right hand has to pivot more to reach the upper strings on a 5 or 6 string bass (or I use the floating thumb technique). So narrow spacing at the bridge is comfortable as well, something like 17mm because it means less reach with my fingers.
7. blimey - cracking rig, nearly identical to mine and a great price!
8. someone could pair this with Platypus's 1x15UL and have a stonker of a cab set up.
9. Heh, you're within walking distance of me too.
10. is it one of them green carpeted ones? got any pics?
11. I'm not even going to go there. It's hard enough keeping it down to 9 as it is.
12. this bloke plays like a guitarist too. and this bloke
13.
I'll simply post links to what was said here and reference them. I'll go and quickly edit out what could be seen as defamation. Do you think this is okay? I've tried to be as factual as possible.
Ideally this is the sort of thing you should be taking up offline, don't forget this IS a publically viewable forum and Basschat ranks fairly high in search engines for many bass related terms. I've edited the quote so just the facts remain, but it might be worth having a word to Syed (The Funk) too. I'm a little out of my depth on this one.
14.
Do we have a boycott on our hands. I've been spreading the message to other forums.
I suggest you be very careful about how you do that if I were you. There's a thing called defamation that can be applied if you're making any untrue claims about them.
15. Are they relying on court settlements as a source of income?! I've never heard of such a litigious company! EDIT: I think some of the demands made by Monster Cable's lawyers are outrageous!
16. here's another one, Cannonball. I remember this one used to get used a lot as incidental music on TV motor racing programmes as they drove around the track on a flying lap... ...it might have been on the Red Arrows performance as part of the Farnborough Air Show highlights as well "and... ...here we are... ...cruising at an altitude of approximately 1300 ft and ...a speed of 650 knots as... ...we go into formation... ...for the first of 106 loops... ...Mrs Flight Lieutenant Sanderson has packed a nice chicken salad for having on the way... ...unfortunately she's put sugar in the flask of coffee... ...a court martial offence I believe in the days of the British Empire..."
17.
It never stopped! Herby is one of the coolest guys on the planet - even playing a tuba wrapped in (mains) fairy lights...
Well crikey flip and call me Grandad, lets have a youtube clip of them. I wish they'd stand up and move about a bit but there's no faulting the musicianship.
18. I haven't had time to read through 9 pages, so sorry if I repeat: Dry Cleaner From Des Moines - Jaco and Joni Love Games - Level 42 You Keep Me Hanging On - Supremes (w/ James Jamerson) If Thats Your Boyfriend - Meshell Nedgeocello (although you could pretty much include the whole album Plantation Lullabies) You Make Me Wanna Holler - Meshell Nedgeocello Open Letter To A Landlord - Living Colour Toccata in Dm - Sky (with Herbie Flowers, I loved the drums and the bass on that whole Sky II album long before I even started learning a musical instrument. One day its going to be cool to like them again) U Make Me So Hot - Sunburst Band (with Julian Crampton) +1 Good Times - Chic (of course) +1 What's Goin On - Marvin Gaye (w/ Jamerson again) I thought about adding School Days by Stanley but he doesn't really groove like the others.
19. has anyone told her she's got a fan club on this forum?
20. he's got hitchhikers thumbs, I hate him.
21.
Ooh MB1 didn't put his name on that last post!!!!!!!!! PM'd
It was an imposter probably. Someone's hijacked his account!!
