1. Lovely score sir, I saw that one myself and wondered whether any one here would be interested in it. I'd love to hear some clips sometime?
2. The Hora Medley *shudder*
3.
i reffered to it about the mods because thats who have the power to change things
Change within certain limits. Your choice of words probably wasn't very considered however.
it damages the trust we have on this forum
If you're careful in your transactions like any responsible adult then you have nothing to worry about. Same as for any classifieds in the paper or wherever. It seems you're also trying to pin responsibility on the people who run this forum for vetting trustworthy members to use the classifieds. Presumably this is on the assumption that new members are the only ones who are profiteering?! If you would like the role of doing the vetting, please DO let me know. Anyways, to go back to a more general view, I don't understand why anyone who is THAT concerned can't drop the mods a PM in preference to putting an ill-judged post on another members ad thread. Seems a bit rude to me, and if someone doesn't have enough proof to make a concern stick then they shouldn't be casting dispersions on other members publically, in my view. Classifieds witchhunts happened on the Dudepit which put people right off using it. Having said that, we could always introduce a quarterly recurring subscription to use the classifieds...? I'm sure that would deter some single use members. However: 1) Would it make the classifieds less interesting? There's some pretty cool stuff that comes up and, because I can handle my transactions responsibly I personally wouldn't want to deter people from posting ads for interesting stuff. 2) Would it result in basschat being less visible to search engines?
The issue with people coming here to sell without introducing itself has come up over and over again. Though some people feel strongly about it, I myself do not mind keeping the status quo. However, I do think my idea also have the benefit of encouraging those sellers to become active members. We do get a lot of traffic from people looking to sell stuff, and I think there's nothing wrong with that. But by encouraging them to post an introduction thread when they first sign in, they may feel more welcome. This would be a win-win situation, quelling the fears of some members that some people are just here to sell, whilst helping to boost active membership. So mods... what say ye?
Aye, I completely agree. I could also suggest that if the membership would like the forum to continue attract interesting, helpful and entertaining personalities then THEY are responsible for keeping them here by the way in which they interact with them. A bit controversial maybe but a suggestion worth making, although I am concerned about the potential for encouraging mild forms of collective paranoia to develop (ie assuming all new people are a potential thread). FWIW I'm getting a bit tired of responding to these recycled issues so may end up posting cross referenced links to other threads in the future, if members are missing my responses.
4. That seems perfectly reasonable to me. At least they should be prepared to negotiate a discount for shop soiled goods. Assuming they're serious about wanting to sell it...
5.
Its to do with you being grounded through your mic to the mixer, and also through the guitar, and the small potential differences in the ground paths.
I get this when I'm plugged into different bits of equipment at the same time. For example, I can plug into the bass amp and then touch the shielding of the freeview box and get a 'tingle'. Ideally all the bits of kit you're in contact with should be going through the same multiplug socket so you don't get this ground path issue. The multiplug can go into the RCD if you're using one, of course.
6. I had a 4 string single pickup version and installed an EMG BTC preamp in it. The instrument still lacked warmth, I only got a satisfactory sound when the bass boost was turned all the way up. Your options on such a budget conscious instrument are probably fairly limited, the best change you could make is probably to install a warm sounding preamp like the Aguilar OBP1 but you might have to drill an extra hole in the bass. You could look at replacing the pickups as well but you might end up spending close to a hundred quid easily and, if you're going to do that, you might as well get a new bass. Give Andy at Wizard Pickups and talk to him about your options. He might be able to do something on a budget and you get a very fast turn around.
7. sounds like a keyboard to me
8. this post has been shifted to the right forum
9. Too bad this isn't a 5 or I'd have your arm off.

11. I typed bassworld into google by mistake. One letter too many.
12. Ohmmwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah...
13. still seems to have a few glitches in it unfortunately.
14.
Hummous is certainly more tuneful, although I can never understand the lyrics. I've definitely got humus in the back garden though...
Thats OK, I can just about tolerate humous though. If its fresh... ...you're not turning into a Zon Buddhist by any chance?
15.
Well: 1. Quite probably, yes ; 2. You saw what the garage/studio was like last time; 3. Wait 'til you try the new Zon; 4. I'm trying 'serial monogamy' with the fretlesses, or that's my story at the moment... Fancy some houmous?
Yes I know what this bass is up against. So it sounds like you're converting to Zon then? MmmmMMmmm. Have you got any hummous instead? I don't like the taste of houmous.
16. LOL I can't believe you're selling this. Are you insane?
17.
I did the same thing. The singer in my old band got us a booking at a specials school's end of year party. We turned up and played our set (during which many of the students wandered on stage to hand us half eaten bits of food etc) Then at the end they came and asked us to 'play something sexy' for the fashion show the students were putting on. The band looked at me so I played a slow funky line a bit like the one the band play in from dusk till dawn. We found it hard to finish as we were all laughing so hard at all the kids walking the wrong direction or just standing in the middle of the 'catwalk'. It was very rewarding though and a lot of fun.
We have one coming up next week for special needs kids, Downs Syndrome I think. Its a charity thing so we're doing it for nothing but unfortunately I can't make it. Shame really, they're very entertaining when they dance and they're having a good time as well which is what its all about for us.
18.
Was I right? Is that all? I was hoping, at the very least, to have won one of CK's Musicmans?????? Let me guess, a bumper sticker, mug and signed Basschat t-shirt?
LOL, nice try. If you're in the vicinity of West London, you're certainly welcome to pop around and have a go on them. But yes, its the Gherkin. The load in is going to be very interesting - mostly via express lifts I suspect. How about a free jar of advocado hummous instead?
19. God, I have some stories. Luckily we usually have pretty classy punters, the sort where I don't worry too much about leaving gear unsupervised. Worst venue was this one: http://www.thewappingproject.com/ I've been there already in the past for some corporate events but we had a couple of lawyers who wanted to book us for their wedding at this place. The lady who runs it is very particular about how she likes to do things and we couldn't use the raised plinth in the centre because she said it was used for tables. (This is a private booking, mind so the restaurant area is essentially being booked out completely). Instead we were each expected to stand on the bits of machinery and balconies like museum exhibits. How we were expected to hear ourselves and how we were expected to compensate for the cave like acoustics wasn't at all clear. We said to the clients that the only way we could make this work was by hiring a completely wireless, in ear monitoring set up which would also require us to get custom molds fitted for everyone so that we could hear ourselves. Plus there were health and safety concerns if we were at risk of falling off the machinery for one reason or another. We ended up refunding their deposit in the end because out of good conscience we didn't feel that the gig was going to be a success, even if they'd coughed up for the in ear monitoring. However, we're playing this place in a couple of weeks time which will probably be the most fantastic and stunning venue we've played yet - any guesses? No cheating now!

Heads Up!

sure, if it involves direct links. I'll change the name of the forum to online auctions if necessary
21. Our 'manager' aka the percussionist has been very harsh and defensive in his emails to me recently which has upset me. I just disagree with him about what normal, successful 4-5 piece function bands can get away with charging. He went off the deep end and took that as a criticism of what he's charging out the band at. It bears little relationship to what our band charges because we're bigger and I thought that was already clear. He also says he is trying to protect the singers against a threat he thinks I pose to the stability of the band when there the singers are probably quite capable of protecting themselves (especially with what we went through with the previous band). I'm not so sure, from what the singers say, that such a threat actually exists. Business wise he's doing a superb job, but our band is seems increasingly less like a partnership and more like a benevolent dictatorship where the percussionist decides what's going to happen and defends that decision against comment from others. EDIT: He's just apologised, the world is good again.
22.
The bass playing was great because the guy was not slappin. As I said a really great groove, not all bass lines have to involve slappin.
I didn't like the groove at all I didn't say all bass lines have to involve slapping So there therefore I think: BRING BACK THE SLAPPING!
23.
Cue a pic from CrazyKiwi....?
Ahem! Sorry for being late Sir! Pics duly supplied: Status MM neck (woven fabric) MM Cutlass neck (similar woven fabric) Alembic Series 1 graphite (lots of chopped strands) Modulus "Thousand Ladies Dancing" Moses neck (mostly resin, designed to sound like maple) Of course the outer appearance is not necessarily an indicator of how the neck has been built inside. As I've stated in other threads, the big issue with the Musicman Cutlass necks and the Modulus fretless bass I owned was the lack of a rigid fingerboard. The phenolic resin recipe used on some of the necks was critical to their rigidity.
24. Bring back the slapping from the original track!
25. Oh yes, Jon was cutting back the finish while I was there last week. He's particularly impressed with the rich colour of those blue tints. The pics really don't do it justice.
