1. Spot the odd one out?
2. FWIW I could play Mr Pink when I was 16. Its not a difficult song to learn but I was probably twice the size. That Wooten stuff on the other vids is bloody impressive though.
3. I thought Alex lived above the Gallery?
4.
Is that in London? That was up at £2900 but it's been there over 2 years(!) so who's gonna say £2K cash to get it off their hands?
Sorry, yes, I realise I didn't make that very clear did I? It sounds to me like making an offer would definitely be worth a crack. The lack of hang tags does concern me a little though. Did someone return it, I wonder?
5. there's a birdseye maple NS5XL which has been on display for a while there, it doesn't have any hang tags on it. I wondered how much they wanted for it though.
6. I'm hardly a jazz afficianado but the nicest jazzes I've played have been (in order) 1) Birdy's sweet '65 preCBS : in the Bass Gallery. Warm (unlike many vintage jazz basses I've played) and sweet. Authorative without being aggressive. 2) Celinder Larry Graham : at the LGS a few years ago. Same as the preCBS jazz but without the mojo 3) My Celinder Update J : Completely different sound to the two above but it does that Marcus thing very well
7. That amp has been advertised for the best part of a year. You'd think the lights would have switched on by now.
it is worth absolutly nothing like that, last one on ebay i think sold for more than a grand less, correct me if im wrong
It sold for £400 the second time it was listed. I was the original buyer but I walked away from it because it was in a really abused state and the seller hadn't mentioned that the original tubes were still installed and only half of them were working. I thought that given its state there could potentially be all sorts of things wrong with it if it had been shagged senseless and not maintained at all.

9. Nice, does it sound much like a stingray?
10. Interested? Couldbecoudbemightbemightbe...
11.
My point is that NO instrument will suit you perfectly.
I'd suggest perfection means different things to different people. Ironically I'm working on a custom 5 string that hopefully will be as close to perfection to me, in the different types of music I play, as basic physics will allow. Might even have a few to sell on if any people are interested in them.
12. would be nice with a graphite neck on it! *hides*
13. bump Happy to swap for an EBS neo 2x10 or a Status Energy 5 with a graphite neck, with cash adjustment (yeah I know, in my dreams)
14.
g'day from the land of oz! in melbourne this here is me MikeyTron, been playing 10 or so years current gear is: Mark Bass F1 Labsystems 410 HP Zon Sonus 5/1 Korg Ampworks Bass Pre-Amp looking forward to me stay here @ bass chat! 15. lovely bass unfortunately I'm just a speckled tater. have a bump anyway
16.
i have an Ibanez Ergodyne EDB-500 bass, actice pickups, the E string is quite boomy, the G string is really twangy, but the sound from the A and D strings seem to get lost. they seem quieter than the other 2. but the e string is definitly the loudest. maybe i just need new strings. oh yeah and its made of luthite
Well it sounds to me like you're doing the equivalent of designing a car by starting with the tyres. If you want a Flea sound then maybe the best place to start with your bass? Perhaps look at a bass which is designed more like a Stingray? MM Sub 4 for example? That's going to make a hell of a lot more difference than choosing between types of magnets and drivers.
17. I feel tempted to start a funk club, TB style...
18. Ideally you need a special set of snub nosed pliers and something to fill the slots with. Machines has done it himself already I believe.
19. I'm wondering how many people here have come down the other side of the GAS mountain? Sold up expensive or rare instruments because the amount of money tied up in them was verging on scary and wasn't actually justified in terms of the gigs? I find myself vascillating constantly from thinking about MORE interesting stuff to thinking about selling up and getting fewer but specifically custom made instruments. Then I look at the basses I own that are keepers and resign myself to probably never having a clear cut and simple position on gear.
20. and your bass?
21.
we arnt a very serious band, we just like jamming, and most of the stuff we play is RHCP covers. if i got the 2x12 neo cab, if i liked the sound of it i would probably couple it with another neo 2x12, or i might get a the GK neo 4x10, except its wider and wont look right. we play songs like stone cold bush and aeroplane and tell me baby, slap like that...
Cool, so are you planning on owning the cabs for as long as you're playing the RHCP covers then and selling them on if/when you move on to other things? What amp are you playing through?
22.
hi guys, just curious to hear ur views, which do you think is better for RHCP-style slap? two 2x12 neo cabs or two 2x10 ceramic cabs? im kinda thinking the 2x10s are better becuase people say the 2x12s lack mids, and are also more boomy than 2x10s, and have less clarity. the two cabs in particular are the GK 210RBH, and the GK Neo 212. anyway please could i hear your thoughts? thaanks
You're making a lot of assumptions there. My EBS 212neo is mid-tastic and not boomy at all. Whereas the pair of Eminence Delta loaded Loud 2x10"'s I used to own had a very poorly defined and boomy low end even though they sounded quite punchy. The GK 210RBH I just sold today wasn't very mid focussed relatively speaking at all - it sounded similar to the 15" cone in my GK combo but with slightly less bass. What cabs you choose should also compliment the character of your bass.Neo cones will give you a slight mid-emphasis which can be great for boomy sounding basses like my Smith fretted 5 but probably not so good for an aggressive sounding bass like a Modulus Sonic Hammer. Its also important to test the cabs out at a rehearsal if you can, the character of your amp and cabs may change quite significantly (tonal colouring being that much more pronounced) at performance volumes. Its also worth noting that Flea's GK rig gives him an exceptionally aggressive sound. Are you only going to be playing RHCP covers?
23.
I think Julian has left now,
Oh ok, I didn't know that. Thanks for the update
24. That'll be Julian Crampton in the bass chair I expect. He's one of my top three favourite players and I heard he's taken over from Randy Hope-Taylor. Check out the work he did with Joey Negro and The Sunburst Band if you'd like to hear more. EDIT: Just found an amazingly rare live clip of them on Youtube EDIT 2: New Album released YESTERDAY. First in bloody ages! No filler tracks according to Dave Lee, each one is supposed to be a good 'un. http://www.myspace.com/thesunburstband
