1. Did my last gig with a band I have been with for about 18 months, went really well and the audience seemed to get into things and to be enjoying it. Nice to end on a good one. So now I'm down to just one band again, which should make life a bit easier.
2. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting (as long as I ignored Europe).
3. Thought they were great, as they usually are.
4. That's the sort of thing that makes it all worthwhile.
5.
Big Goth crossover too. Lot's of Steampunks go to WGW.
That's true, and gives me more ideas thanks.
6.
Same... I feel dumb
No need to, it's one of those things that once you know about it it seems to be everywhere - finding it in the first place is the problem
7.
I can't imagine many of the GDSF visitors will be into steampunk. In my experience they're more likely to be Fred Dibnah look-alikes.
I'm now stuck with the image of a field full of Fred allikes, to quote the man himself "I realise that steam engines aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. But they’re what made England great."
8.
I like the asthetics of steampunk but I didn't realise there wasand actual scene as such. I'm playing at the Great Dorset Steam Fair next weekend - have you ever checked that out? Essentially it's a Glastonbury festival sized collection of steam powered machinery.
Good idea, not heard of it before, I'll have a look, thanks.
9.
I've been reading about the whole Steam punk scene recently but my understanding is that although there is a lot of interest in this style very little seems to be happening. I know a few people involved in the Burlesque/alternative scene who are loving the Steam punk style but when i ask them about the scene they know very little. This is speaking regarding the Leeds/Yorkshire scene anyway. Hope this helps
Thanks for the info, there does seem to be some crossover with Burlesque as you say, I'll look into that further. Cheers.
10. Hi, The band I am in have played a couple of Steampunk gigs recently, and may be involved in organising a couple of these in the near future (in the midlands). For future reference (in case we do organise gigs), has anyone else on here played on the Steampunk circuit, or consider themselves to be Steampunk friendly? I'm really trying to sound out what level of interest there would be before we put our money where our mouth is so to speak Thanks
11.
I wondered who the hell crimson clocks were
Still wondering about that myself
12. Just added music to Crimson Clocks page and found this thread, think I have liked everyone on here. Our page can be found at www.reverbnation.com/crimsonclocks
13.
I make a similar sound with my lawnmower.
I think the one guy in the video would probably "dance" to the sound of a lawnmower.
14. I have had a similar challenge in a band with the guitarist using the bass line as a solo, also because it was written first. I've said in the past that I can't write the bass line for one of the later tracks until every thing else is in place, as I need to lock in with various rhythms rather than leading - took over a month for the guitar part to be written, as opposed to the usual few minutes of listening to the bass Also had a similar superior attitude from a guitarist that wasn't much beyond beginner basics. Having said that, the majority of people have been fine to play with and be around, and of course it can go the other way with everyone gelling nicely for a few months before it all goes horribly wrong. Sometimes its getting on well with the people that makes it all worth while other times it's the music and being on stage - it is nice to have both if you can though.
15. Both very nice, the bass comes through really well on the first track.
16. I love them and the way they almost seem to grip the fingers, using Elixirs at the moment and will be going back to Rotosounds. Lost the callouses on the ends of my fingers now but they will come back quickly once the Rotosounds are back on.
17. I use a Line6 BackTrack+mic, it works well but the files are .WAV - they convert to MP3 in iTunes easily though.
18. Roughly 20 years for me as well, I'm not addicted to it though, I could stop any time, if I really wanted to, which I don't.....
19. I think I learned more watching that than I have in the last few years
20. I bought a bass from them, very happy with the service and speed of delivery.
21. This would be one of mine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzyj3Wxhjr4
