  1. It may have whizzer cones and/or a tweeter . Probably not plywood like the ABMs are. Has anyone got the new Retroglide 800 or the Rootmaster 800 ?
  2. Pete has never played lead this well. Practice pays! Does anyone else think his Fender amps sound good, but his SG/Hiwatt sound was just more 'special' ? Those Hiwatts can be tamed to a 50 watt level. They look good too.
  3. I would dig that ABM 1000 too! There is one at Chicago Music Exchange ($1500) for USA Ashdown fans.
  4. I would like one of those also. I got the EMG "enhance" control on a used bass. It boosted lows and treble both when turned up. When it was below half-way it cut bass and treble and left the mids only. Mine started distorting and I bypassed it. Now I have a real clean-sounding Guild Pilot with no tone control. Does your mid-sweep have a stacked pot?
  5. I read some interesting stuff about Brown Sugar :Keith does not play on the original Sticky Fingers version! If my source is to be believed, Mick strums acoustic gtr (open tuning?) and Mick Taylor plays electric gtr ! They had been recording at Muscle Shoals where Duane Allman was employed full time. Duane was called "Skydog" because he liked being high. "Skydog slaver" may be a callout to Duane because he was a slaving studio musician, paid very little. Skynard were Florida boys.
  6. I have a Jetglow and a Fireglow 4003 and I think the walnut looks great too. A mapleboard on a maple neck is a logical alternative.
  7. Triangles beat polka-dots for coolness. How about an active EQ ? I got price quotes of $1500 for this bass and $1800 for the stereo 4003. That seems about right. The 4003 has a pull-pot switch to engage the bass-cut cap on the bridge pickup. Dots are OK.
  8. Chrome corners and anything that is shiney will rust in a basement, garage , or shed. Also anything left in your car.
  9. I have a '78 Precision and it is heavy like your bass. The irony is that 70's vintage was considered to be not worthy until they were about 20 years old. Now I could sell that bass for almost $1500, or triple what it cost new! I like my Highway One more but it is just an ordinary tone. The recent American Special are lighter on your back...
  10. I just noticed my Japanese Jaguar buzzes when I don't touch the strings. I'll need two rolls of that slug tape to do all the controls and pickups !
  11. I met him when he played at Rickwood Field here in Birmingham (Alabama). He drank straight whisky out of a glass while the left-handed bass player smoked a hand-rolled cigarette . B got some nice sustaining feedback with a big Standel amp. It had 215s and a solid state amp in one big cabinet.Later he had several eating establishments and at least one night club.
  12. Sky Blue was a standard colour for a short time.
  13. Is your bass Surf Green ? That colour would be a nice contrast.
  14. I would like to see a lion reclining on top of your lovely cabinet! It could swing its' tail in front of the speakers while you play.
  15. This would not look cool but you could use an old shoelace (I save the rawhide laces from 'boat shoes'). Loop it over the front of the amp and secure it to the recessed bar handle at the rear of your Ashdown 4/8 cabinet.
  16. Lovely cabinet! I recommend 4" casters. I got some for a 410 and they are rated at 250lbs. each. (for a cabinet up to 1,000 lbs.)
  17. It is a little strange to change basses, but in a good way. Also to play a "D" pattern at the 10th fret on the E string when you usually play it 5th fret, A string. -the Old Spice of life!
  18. You might file a flatish section on the pot shaft where the grub screw touches. That will give it more to tighten against. Also a grub screw filed flat at the end may hold better. Wipe any sweat/oil off the pot shaft and clean out the knob too. Or get some new knobs that will stay tight.
  19. Blue, now I am torn between seeing the Stones (time#4) or seeing the Who in Nashville (time#7). I could buy a new bass for what the tickets will cost and a room at a moetel! I just wish Keith would play a new guitar and be careful not to ding it or scratch the finish. Bill took good care of his basses and I try to follow his example.
  20. It is a worthy amp if it is a MAG 600, renamed. I have the EVO1 version with carpet covering, no compressor or overdrive. Also a EVO3 with tolex, chrome corners, compressor, and overdrive. Get it while you can because it is an "old school" solid state amp with no valves to worry about.
  21. Well, you could adjust the amp so the D string and G string are loud enough and have the right amount of bass and treble. Then play the A string. If it (and the E) is extra loud, lower the pickup to make them less-loud, Or reduce your lowEQ (50-100HZ). Or raise your high-bass EQ (100-200HZ).
  22. I love my 4003. I wish Rickenbacker would build me a Mapleglow bookcase and a Fireglow coffee table.
  23. I have memories of a hollow 'Backer I sold in LA, back in 1978. I was hungry and it hurt me badly to sell it. I miss that bass more than any ex-girlfriend or wife I have had... Now I have two nice good-sounding 4003 basses that will never be sold. Still, now I like my Ray 34. I like to fiddle with the active EQ.
  24. I saw pictures of a 2015 UK-made ABM410 with big ports on the bottom of the front. This cabinet won't be cheap. I recently got two Chinese ABM 410s for $500 each. I like them OK but my sealed ABM 610 sounds better. It's hard to find what you like... Rock On.
  25. The Stingray had a good mid sound but it could have been as fat as the Fenders. More bass even. Thanks for the comparisons.
