1. At the moment I'm either practicing covers for upcoming dep gigs or I'm writing for my prog project, I'm looking forward to being a little less busy and can just learn some songs for my own enjoyment or work on some theory. That said, I've managed to squeeze a couple of Megadeth songs into my practice time this week - Tornado Of Souls and Rust In Peace...Polaris, pretty much nailed Tornado Of Souls, but haven't quite got all the riffs right on Polaris; Megadeth tracks are really good for your speed and dexterity.
2. It may be a great bass, and if you have and and really like it I'm glad you're happy. Doesn't change the fact it looks like a Squire Bronco though.
3.
Yip!
And another, glad they're doing something new though, I quite like the idea of a single pickup with the rotary switch. Edit: that should have read, "something new that doesn't look like they've raided the spares draw and jammed together whatever was available"
4. Megadeth Love them, but what a god-awful name
5.
http://www.youtube.c...FATnRUeQM#at=39 Hopefully the above link will work. My G&L in action.
tasty tone
6. Cheers Garry, I'll keep that in mind, see if I can persuade the wife that disappearing for a few hours one evening is a good idea (feel free to make a whipped noise). But here's a couple of videos that set off the SB2 GAS in the first place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d-TWBj46tA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqZsWYcjEzk Apologies for the Matchbook Romance song - sh*te band, great tone.
7. That's fairly inoffensive as decals go isn't it? I wouldn't have known it was the Biffy logo and I quite like them.
8. Yeah, probably a bit too far Hhow do you use the dual volume controls and what sort of tone do you go for?
9. I've got a hankering for a G&L SB-1 or SB-2 really liking the sound of them on Youtube, but have never tried one in the flesh - who lives fairly close RH19 (East Grinstead, West Sussex) have one I could try out? I can bring beer / wine / doghnuts with me and any of my gear you might want to give a go. I really like the idea of one of these, but want to see if it's "just" GAS or if it will be right for me, cheers.
10.
I often wonder where that one was now. Now I know. .
The mods you did are great, I've decided to leave her passive and predominantly use just the P pickup, but really like being able to dial in the j pup for the rockier numbers.
11. what also looks good on a Duck Dunn? A jazz pickup
12. Megadeth - Peace Sells Tool - Schism Trying to think what other cliches I knock out in guitar shops
13.
Graham I can lend you an Octaver for the cost of postage if you want to try it out? I have one or two (or 8).
Cheers Shep, I really appreciate that, if you PM me your Paypal I'll send the money over when I get paid on Friday, I've got gigs 5th and 6th July so will be able to try one of them with an octave pedal and the other in drop C to see the difference
14. I'm pretty sure Colin Edwin played Porcupine Tree's most recent album - The Incident on his Mk 1 so that would be worth checking out. I suspect their Lightbulb Sun album was also all Wal
15. Cheers guys, the bass I use for that song is nominally set-up in D standard, tuned up a semitone for the gig for the songs the guitarist or singer like to do in Eb so going down to drop C is probably not too much of a stretch. Hoping for a magic box to solve the problem was probably asking a bit much :-P
16. In the covers band I dep for fairly regularly they do Runaway Baby by Bruno Mars, but play it in C rather than Eb, which means as I don't have a 5-string I won't be able to play the octave shift in the verse, which is a shame as it sounds great dropping an octave for the 2nd half of the verse. However, I was thinking an octave pedal might solve this problem? I'm not really sure as I've never used one so am I on to something here? I don't want to retain the original note, I just want the note I'm playing to appear out of the amp an octave lower.
17. Pretty good, second dep gig with this particular covers act, could have done with some more audience to be honest, but I guess it's the wrong time of the month for a covers band who have been fairly quiet of late so lacking a following. They had a new drummer and it was her first gig, she was great to play with - I can tell when she's played a couple more shows there will be a really good groove there. I played pretty well - couple of mistakes, but nothing glaring and have firmly established myself as their first call dep. I've had my Genz/Barefaced rig for about 6 months now but I'm still loving the load-in/out - two trips to the car and I'm done! particularly now I've added a pedalboard, makes it all so much easier :-)
18.
In Southborough?? Do you mean JBs Music on St Johns? It's a bit crap for bass stuff. Clueless idiots too: They once told me there's no such thing as stainless steel strings. I'd go to Abbey Music round the corner instead. Not too much bass stock (Lower end Ibanez, Squier, MIM Fender) but they are much more friendly than JBs (and stock Rotosound SS and Elites SS). AGC in Tonbridge is the other end of the scale. Some seriously nice kit there whenever I go in. £15k for an Alembic anyone? For decent stock and a wide range of basses I take a trip to Brighton for GAK, my guitarist favours Andertons in Guildford. Bth are about an hours drive from Tonbridge / Tun Wells.
I probably do, I've only driven past it, abduction now I think more about it, it's probably not as fat north as Southborough :-)
19.
Thanks for that. I work in Tunbridge Wells, so I'll defintiely make that short trip some time.
There's a guitar shop in Southborough - on the main road as you head north out of Tunbridge Wells, not been in there though, just driven past it a few times.
20. If it's just cosmetic then I'm no that bothered - I love the 5th fret inlay, but don't really like the cross inlay on the headstock or the stripy black pickguard, may as well go for a black Glaub. The one they did for NAMM had the nicest piece of rosewood I think I've ever seen for the fretboard though.
21. Arse. What's the difference in specs between the Butler and the Glaub?
22. I'd suggest something like a Sansamp BDDI or VT Bass DI for amp tone into a small mixer to blend your bass with an Ipod signal or similar and then use a decent set of headphones, sounds like you already have a Sansamp so a fairly small expenditure for a good practice system whilst retaining your Hartke for live use. I basically use that set-up for home practice as any amplfiication will wake the kids and then I get nothing done! That said, if you're set on a small valve amp, the Youtube videos I've seen of the Ashdown Little Bastard do sound good - Walman (I think?) on here did a good video review of one that's worth a watch.
23. We were supposed to have A Thousand Years by Christina Perri for her to walk down the aisle to, followed by I Never Would Have Thought by Rancid (with the swearing edited out) for signing the register and then the Wallace And Grommet theme for leaving the registry with Accidentaly In Love by Counting Crows (from Shrek 2) for any stragglers. However, despite the CD player working fine before the ceremony when guests were arriving, and me testing the CD with those songs on before anyone arrived with everything being fine, the CD player completely packed up and refused to work when the wife was about to walk down the aisle, which she ended up having to do in silence. She wasn't too pleased about this, not being the type who enjoys being the centre of attention at the best of times. Edit: first dance was Muse's cover of I Can't Take My Eyes Off You by Andy Williams, I also did a cover for her of The Beach Boys God Only Knows, singing and playing guitar on my own to varying degrees of success: I got applause, but people are pretty much obliged to when it's your wedding.
24. I too used to have one of these - cracking basses and an absolute steal at that price
