  1. Sorry to hear that mate. Wishing you a speedy recovery. A few years ago I had a mishap cutting cable ties with a stanley knife. I knew that I should have got a pair of cable cutters but couldn't be bothered. Nearly cost me my life. The blade slipped and entered my wrist and kept going for about three inches. Cut along side the artery, but not through it. I was on my own and it was a real gusher. Still get all of a wobble thinking about it. All the best
  2. I've always played it : from the D to C sharp, B, A. then the F sharp G bit. But maybe I have been wrong all these years, will check out the record tomorrow.
  3. Don't you just love guitarists? The Humble Pie one is great, there's a nice bass bit in the middle, not a exactly a solo, but a good line to play. Good luck with it.
  4. They are all lovely. and by the way it's absolutely pouring down here
  5. Congrats mate, wishing you luck. Enjoy
  6. Love em all. Especially the Alembic
  7. yes the Jazz is a cracker, but they are all very nice.
  8. There's some great 80's basslines on the Frankie Goes To Hollywood stuff too... Wasn't that the Blockheads rhythm unit
  9. He hardly even glances at the fret board. Dont think I can even look at my bass tonight
  10. Hey Jono. I'm still interested. Gary
  11. So did you buy it?
  12. Very nice mate. Don't believe your last sentence though. But it is one that I've said a lot
  13. I had a great time, although didn't stay long due to feeling so unwell. Well done to all the organisers. Thanks. Gary
  14. This is a nice bass. Pleasing to look at and good to play acoustically or amped up.
  15. Me. I'm looking for a Badass 11
  16. thanks, that's cleared it up. As I feared I was missing the obvious.
  17. Just called them for some advice on the 64's and 84's. Very helpful and answered all my questions. Now I just need to decide which to go for.
  18. I always do it, after learning the embarassing way, I also take the other end of the lead around/through the side handle on my combo.
  19. Thanks for all the info chaps. I don't know why they chose this key and I told them it sounded very strange. But I did get the look from a couple of them, you know the one that says, " what do you know, you're just the bass player".
  20. Looking for a bit of help with All My Loving by the Beatles. All these years of bass playing and I have never played this number, however I was asked to learn it for last nights rehearsal. So over the weekend I dug out my copy of the Beatles 62-66 and had a listen and then tried to copy maccas walking line. Can't say that I nailed it note for note, but it was fairly close. My take on it was that the chord progression in the verse was F sharp minor, B, E, Csharp minor, A, F sharp minor, D, B, F sharp minor, B, E, C sharp minor, A, B, E, stop. (sorry that was a bit long winded) Anyway, got to the rehearsal and I was told to do it in D and off we went. I got some strange looks and realised I wasn't playing what they were. This is where I am a bit confused... Won't list all the chords again but transposing from F sharp to D< I thought the progression would now be Dm, G, C, Am, F, Dm, Bb, G etc. Whereas they were playing D, Em A D Bm G Em C Em etc. If you've bothered to read this far, what do you think? Am I missing something obvious or have the guitarist got it wrong? Cheers, all the best Gary
  21. Thanks for that. I will check out the sites you recommended.
  22. My new Squier modified Jazz suffers quite a loud buzz, unless I back off the tone control, so guess it's either a pick up issue or lack of shielding. I am thinking that the shielding would be the obvious first step. So I would be grateful for advice as to whether to go for screening paint or foil/tape. Best brands to look for and stockists. Thanks, all the best Gary.
  23. thanks Doc. Will have a proper read of the sticky. Cheers
  24. Nice one. I'm planning to do the same sort of mods to my new Squier Jazz, so maybe seeking your advice if you don't mind. I find it a bit unerving when first approaching a bass armed with a screw driver. Yesterday I made a tentative start by putting on strap locks. All went smoothly and the screws seemed to bite in properly. Looking for a bridge replacement next, either gotoh or bad ass, whichever is the most straight forward to install. Must admit I don't fancy filing the grooves on the badass.
  25. I've got the same amp. On the last gig I played I added my Hartke 2 x 10", which is rated at 150 watts @ 8 ohms. It worked very well and certainly gave me a cut through sound, which was much needed to keep up with keyboards and five guitars. I would prefer a trace 2 x 10", but the Hartke has the added advantage of being very light, which is a relief after having carried the Trace combo out of the car and into the venue. All the best Gary.
