1. I got so sick of the way other bands and promoters mess about (especially in London!) that me and a mate have become promoters. We make people stick to time, we enforce kit-share, sometimes weeks in advance, to minimise changeovers. If you mess other bands about, we cut your set short. Then we give all profits to the bands. I think it's time that bands took back more of the power like this. What is the point of a full-time promoter anyway?
2. I used the cheapo ones from bitsbox. They wear out eventually, but then I do use them to chop EVERYTHING.
3. Something like this? http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?Module...47&doy=14m6 Or http://www.bitsbox.co.uk/tools.html
4. I basically cut the switch out in the end - get some nice sharp snips under it and chop! Then I desoldered and removed the remaining pins. Then, looking down at the board, component-side up, there are 6 holes where the switch used to be. Connect them like this O---O O O---O O Then it works!
5. I fixed one of these recently. It gets easier if you take the switch apart. Cut it off if you have to. It's screwed anyway, right? I've never known anyone turn one of these off, so I just bypassed the switch into always on. I can dig it out and tell you what point to solder to what, if you want.
6. Let me know if you decide to bin it - I'd like a broken one to try and turn into a glitchy mess.

9. I've always put this down to lazy soundmen, tbh. I use a heavily effected signal through the amp - quite brutal EQing and clipping (it's a GK and I love that old school 800RB tone). It would be totally inappropriate to take the DI before the pre-amp, because it wouldn't sound at all right for the tunes. Which is why, in the end, I put a preamp in my pedalboard. I can do all the monkeying there, and only offer the soundman the sound I want.
10. Someone must have a child who needs a new bed! I'll give this a couple more days before I strip the hardware off and smash the box up.
11. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=bassmaster TA-DA!
12. All depends how long you can wait. I just bought my third 70s japanese 'faker, and none of them cost as much as £280. Plus infinitely more 'mojo' than a modern one ;-) Keep an eye on here, and eBay.
13.
If you can tell me the values of the volume and tone pots, and the treble cut and bypass capacitors, so I can restore the much modified electronics on mine to their original state, then you can have a bump on me!
Will do!
14. It all depends what 'twisted neck' means. This bass could need so much work that it ends up being very expensive. And I think that's shown by the fact this wasn't snapped up in an hour.
15. PRICE DROPPED TO £360 This is one of my stable of aluminium-necked basses. It breaks my heart to sell it, but I never play it, because I'm too scared of hurting it by playing hard with a pick, and scratching the finish. This is a Kramer 450b. Made in Neptune, New Jersey, USA. Aluminium neck, with wooden (walnut) inserts for warmth and to keep the weight down. Walnut body. Two pickups, described on various sites as humbuckers, but they're actually single coils (I know, because I bought a spare) with pole pieces directly under the strings. Passive. The finish is really nice. It has a few pock marks, but is pretty enough that, as stated above, I don't want to hurt it. Everything is original, apart from one machinehead. Three machineheads are the original Schallers, but one is a Gibson (Although it's so similar that I strongly suspect that it's a rebadged Schaller). The speed knobs, and even the aluminium 'bullet' switchtip are there. Both pickup rings are present (which is very rare on a 450b), but one has been cracked and glued during its history. Original neckplate, pickup plates, control cover etc all present and very very shiny. These were made in the late 70s, and there is a forum dedicated to discussing them at http://www.kramerforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=7 . Lots of guys who used to work in the factory in New Jersey making these basses post on there. I'm after £400 plus postage for this. It will come in a (battered) Hiscox case to make sure that it reaches you in as good condition as it is now. You can meet me in central London and save yourself postage any time you like. There are a couple of pics to get you started, but I'll be posting loads more.
16.
Where are you based?
In the majestic town of Holloway, North London.
17. Anyone want the following? They're yours for postage costs (or meet me in London and I'll hand them over): P-bass pickup (off a Squier) P-bass pickguard (white, 1-ply) Body off a VOX bassmaster (repainted black)
18. OK. Number 1 (signed and numbered!) is sitting in front of my amp waiting for all my neighbours to be awake so I can abuse it. More reports once I try it out.
19. I have a question. All over this site there are male bassplayers calling their basses 'she' or 'the girl'. Do female bassplayers call their instruments 'the boys'?
20. Bunch of things have gone on eBay. I'm giving the muff another week here before it goes to that 'orrible place with the second wave.
21.
yeah - whatever happpened about this ?
I'm trying out the first applicant on Monday... Will keep you guys up to date. Maybe we'll go for a 4-bass lineup in the end ;-)
