1.
i have a 410 by loud which i got from dangerboy in march. its amazing and hasn't let me down so far!
And it used to belong to Dr.Funk, too!
 2. Is there a Fodera database? I know that one of the reasons people put their guitars and basses onto the Travis Bean database is in case they get nicked. There aren't many so they're easy to track.
 3. More! More! I love all bands that are 100% bassplayer on principle. And that principle is even stronger than the one that dictates that I like bands who are 50% bassplayer.
 4. I've seen so many people do 'the looper set' now. Mostly guitar-based. One was tuba-based! I'm really wondering if any bass players were refreshing the genre by doing it with the greatest instrument on Earth. I know Squarepusher used to.
 5. Is anyone out there taking a bass (and no doubt effects, loopers etc) to venues, and starring in their own one-person show? I'm intrigued really. I love that kind of thing.
 6. I think the main character in Jonathan Lethem's last book played bass. However, only read if you want a book that over-romanticizes, and completely fails to capture the experience of, being in a band. As far as I remember.
 7.
Such as "I'm gonna proppa knife you up good if you don't gimme your phone, innit."
I heard a Londoner threaten to 'wet' someone up recently. I know it was meant to be threatening, but I nearly 'wet' myself! ON TOPIC - If someone goes to this and has a chance to nick tayste's pedals, there's a few you could sell on to me.
 8.
Get an EHX SMM/H instead much better
I second this. ps - Matt. My girlfriend accidentally caught your band live a couple of weeks ago. She says you're great, and bought your CD for me. Nice work! When you playing London?
 9.
For synth and less than £100 you'd be better off getting a Subdecay Noisebox from America much better and much more unique, or if you want something more dubby and octave down sounding the Sinister Analog Soul Provider
I've got a Soul Provider for sale, btw.
 10. As someone in a band, I'd hate to work with a "producer". I want it to sound like what's in our heads, not what some other guy imposed by a label or whatever wants. I think it's a different issue if you're a Phil Spector, or the like, who assembled the band to achieve the sound in his head... But for me - the band will have spent months or years working out their sound. Get a good engineer to capture that. Job done. Not some guy rearranging things, asking for overdubs, pooring on reverb and compression... nb - I only have an opinion on rock recording, most of which is compressed mush these days. I bow completely to opinions on other genres, about which I know next to nothing.
 11. I never touch it. Full-on, all the time. When I got a custom bass made I had 'ornametnal' tone knobs fitted that aren't connected to anything.

 13.
Disgraceful!! What does it sound like?? I've just seen a 'faker' on the bay, wonder if that would work as a donor? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rickenbacker-Style-B...id=p3286.c0.m14
It sounds flippin' great. The massive amount of leftover cash from not buying a real Rick is nice, too. This one came with no TRC, so I had to find something to fit! That bass on eBay is overpriced, btw.
 14.
That IS really nice and it would be the route I take if I give up hope. Was it easy to get replacement parts that fit OK? I've had scratchplate issues in the past before.
70s Japanese bass + fake TRC off some weird website + auroraproject.co.uk scratch plate, custom cut to match the existing one. Easy.
 15.
Thats really really nice Steve. I prefer the black and chrome too. The Gordon Smith 'Rickenblacker' has arrived that I bought off Ebay. Changing the crappy bridge to a Hipshot Supertone then I'll get some pics up. Really pleased with it.
I am really looking forward to seeing this bad boy.
 16.
Jolly good! Have you got a flyer for the gig?
Oh yes. http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/5822/sept3rdtommyal5.jpg A whole quid off.
 17.
Very nice. I think I'll try to get up to Camden tomorrow - any idea of what time you're on?
10.20pm At Tommy Flynns, which is halfway between Camden Town and Mornington Crescent tubes. The crazy promoters want us to headline our first gig! I did a few gigs for them with my old band, and I think they're hoping for more of the same.
 18. I just cheated http://img145.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscf2589fv0.jpg I do like a bit of chrome with my black, though.
 19. Some of you might remember the ads from a few months back. I did promise no guitars, but one snuck in while we weren't looking. But he plays baritone, so I think it's OK. Anyway, two Basschatters, more pedals than you've ever seen, and one very loud noise. www.myspace.com/songsfromtheshows So far we've been compared to Slint, Sonic Youth, Cop Shoot Cop, Shellac, Joy Division, Nick Cave, QOTSA and Mogwai. So, classic pop, basically. On-stage 1020 at Tommy Flynn's in Camden on September 3rd. Flyer: http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/5822/sept3rdtommyal5.jpg Then 8ish, at the Good Ship Kilburn on the 11th. Got a few things lined-up for October and November too.
 20.
Amen. Are you gigging yet? I remember your ads on here and at DiS and it sounded like something I'd be interested in (as a punter). It'd be good to see the band some time. Myspace?
www.myspace.com/songsfromtheshows The design isn't done yet, and the mp3s are just recorded with an Edirol thing at rehearsal, but you'll get the general idea. First gig tomorrow. How often do you get to see 2 BCers in one band?
 21. You need to find someone who'll be really impressed. Preferably of whichever sex you prefer to date. Preferably single. And preferably a few of 'em so they can fight it out for your affections. That's what makes most musicians I know get up on-stage when they otherwise can't be bothered.
 22. Welcome back! Is it one of the new XO-style ones, or one of the older ones?
 23. The whole distortion thing is always really divisive. I guess that's why there are more distortion/fuzz pedals out there than every other kind of effect put together. There are probably more tubescreamer clones alone! I guess, though, that we should leave the divisiveness to the guitarists (seriously, go and read THEIR threads on things like this at harmony-central and the like) and try to get along.
 24.
All fair points mate. Sh*t I like those guys! I wish some English bands would revive this kind of thing, instead of all the rubbish they recycle these days... All those "Indie" bands need some balls like these guys!
You need to come and see my new band, then ;-)
