  1. You can get metal ones that you can shape to your thumb, and that have folded over edges on the pick part for going up as well as down. But they don’t sound right in a bass, I don’t think. There are some that are popular with banjo players that have a metal thumb band but a plastic pick. And then there is/was (not sure) the one designed by a Megadeth guitarist that was basically a metal thumb band that you could slot a standard pick into, which was meant to be played in a normal style, but with the security of not being able to drop it and still be able to let go and widdle up the fretboard, should one feel inclined.
  2. I’ve only got the Icon album by Paradise Lost. And the As I Die EP. I’ve got a playlist that I am learning to drum with, and As I Die is in there. There are a few Type O Negative tracks, too. Angry Inch being a favourite.

I don’t know if this is any help to anyone… I recently bought some cable/zip ties from Aldi or Lidl (sorry, can’t remember which). They’re large, black and can be undone and reused, which is very handy. It’s nice not having to cut them off and waste them everytime you need to change something.
  4. My computers and hard drives have names. At the moment they’re based on fantasy swords, and ships and stations from the Alien franchise.
  5. BC Rich Warlock - Ravensfriend Cort T35 - Gloomborn Epiphone Thunderbird Goth - Angelbane I’ve also got an Ibanez 7 string, skinny string thing called Mourneblade. They’re the only ones that have names. The name has to come naturally, else it doesn’t get one. Two of those are fantasy swords, the other two just came to me.
  6. Like Franticsmurf, I have mine so that my belt buckle would be about central to the bass body (I know this because, when I was thin enough, I caused buckle rash in exactly that position…). I have my bass the same length sitting and standing. When sitting, the bass hangs down between my legs with the neck angled quite high. I never rest my bass on my leg when playing sitting down.
  7. I now live about the same distance from Swansea (Llanarthne) as I did from Leicester when I lived in the Midlands (Nuneaton). i don’t know why I find that interesting. My mum’s family are from Hinckley. The best job I ever had was in Hinckley. So was the worst.
  8. I once went to a gig in Swansea because a friend’s band were headlining. There were five other bands. Unfortunately, Wales were playing England in the rugby six nations, and there was a TV behind the bar… At one point, the singer for one of the bands had jumped off the stage and was going bonkers, he was putting on a hell of a show, really going for it. And just about no one, other than me, saw it because everyone was standing at the bar with their eyes glued to the damned telly. I’ll be honest, it made me really angry.
  9. Mine blew its bridge rectifier. Which I fixed, but it was still annoying. You are right, though, it did amplify. It made dullness slightly louder.
  10. I’ve had this stuck in my head all night!
  11. I’ve had this song stuck in my head for days. And I don’t know why!
  12. To be honest, I have had no interest in this thread but, while scrolling down the thread list, I saw your description and had to have a look. I’m really glad I did, too! That was great!
  13. I’ve gone an ordered one now! To “save on postage” I added a little something extra, to get it over the free postage threshold… I’ve ended up paying £174… My wife was fine about it, but then she is in Spain at the moment. My only worry, is that most pneumatic chairs don’t cater to people of my size. Even my special office chair big bigguns is only rated to 20st. Mind you, I’ve had it for years and it’s been fine.
  14. Dagnammit! Did you have to link that? My derrière is murdering me right now after a session on the drums, and that throne looks a hell of a lot more comfortable than the one I’ve got. Though, to be fair, it is a medical issue, just being upright for more than a couple of hours hurts like hell. But my wife would skin me alive right now, if I were to say that I wanted another stool!
  15. I’d been meaning to get a drum stool for ages, for playing bass while sitting down, but only got one recently, when I bought a drum kit. It was £55 and carries my weight with no problems. Being height adjustable is very handy, because I just didn’t know, exactly, what height I would need. I tend to have my strap the same length while sitting as when standing, allowing the bass to dangle between my legs. And I hold the bass at the same angle whether sitting or standing. Something you might want to consider, is one of those little foot stool, thingumies. I find that one makes playing while sitting much more comfortable (I use it while doing other stuff, too, such as using my PC). https://www.amazon.co.uk/BALLSHOP-Footstool-Classical-Acoustic-Electric/dp/B08JLYYLNN/
  16. Floor Jansen. There’s even a term for peoples’ reaction to her… The Floorgasm. Sharon den Adel Dani Filth
  17. If sticking to the rules, I have two options: Cort Action for £189: https://www.james-music.co.uk/products/cort-action-pj-bass-in-open-pore-walnut Or a Squier Affinity for £239: https://www.james-music.co.uk/products/affinity-series-precision-bass-pj As much as I like my Corts, I think the PJ Squier versatility trumps the, rather boring looking Cort, on this occasion. I might, in the future, even end up changing the neck to one with a maple fretboard, and try to make it look(ish) like Steve Harris’ 80s blue Precision.
  18. I only had the head, not the combo. The worst amp I ever owned. I absolutely hated it.
  19. My first thought was Cort. This is rather nice for £269: https://www.johndouglasmusic.com/store/product/3_guitars/7_bass-guitars/2736_cort-action-deluxe-plus-bass/
  20. Bombtrack; Killing in the name; Bullet in the head - Rage Against The Machine He who paints the black of night - The Vision Bleak In pursuit of Vikings - Amon Amarth Peace Sells - Megadeth The killchain - Bolt Thrower Seasons in the abyss; Black Magic - Slayer Liar - Motörhead Dance commander - Electric 6 Steady as she goes - The Raconteurs I’m going to stop there.
  21. Before discovering BassChat I went on TalkBass. As people on here might be aware, I like to rant… I had bought a 15” bass speaker, but was having problems with distortion when playing anything below the G on the E string. I went on TalkBass and had a moan. A couple of people told me (not suggested) that I had put it in the wrong size cab. I said that I didn’t think I had. I didn’t go back for a couple of days, but when I did there was about four pages of people angrily telling me that I had put it in the wrong sized cab! So, I told them the measurements of the cab, which were pretty much bang on what they should have been for that speaker. And no one said a word. It turned out that a preamp in my signal chain was clipping… I had a similar experience on an angling forum. I had caught a lovely, good sized Crucian Carp and posted a photo of it. Cue several pages of people insisting that it was a Carp/Brown Goldfish hybrid… I knew that the venue didn’t have Goldfish and that they had a good stock of proper Crucians. The thing was, the only way to tell was by the fin shape, which wasn’t visible in the photo! They even admitted that couldn’t know because there was no way to tell by what they could see, but still, it was definitely a hybrid! I didn’t hang around after that.
  22. There are some amazingly supportive people on BassChat, whether it’s to do with bass, music in general or just life with all it’s ups and downs. There is just one other forum I follow. I check it every morning just before coming here, but I only really look at two or three threads, and I very, very rarely interact with them. Then I come here and spend most of the day checking for new posts. Joining in when I can and trying to help if I can, to try to give back some of what I get out of the forum. I feel happy and included here, and I have never actually met a BassChatter in person. As such I don’t think I can say I have friends from here, I am too shy and reserved when in private conversations (I think) to make such a close connection; but there are some members that hold a special place for me for the caring and support I have got from them. So, for me, this place is a community first (day to day or even week to week, other than my wife, this is the only place where I interact with anyone) and an amazing information resource second.
