1.
A sunburst Roadworn Jazz Unfortunately I'm only in a position to trade at the moment and the last couple that have come up have been sale only / non-receptive to my offer. sigh.......
If i didn't have one this would be top of my wish list. I love mine, it really does feel old (I have had early 60's Fenders so can compare). Good luck with the hunt. I'm now gassing for a 90's 'ray and a Modulus Flea It'll be something else next week though
2. I use mostly a Jazz (neck pickup solo'd) to get a P esque sound as I prefer smaller necks as I did what you're doing and shifting codes from guitar and found the neck transition easier. I also prefer offset guitars. Saying that I also have a USA P, and a Jazz bass Special (PJ) There's nothing to say you can only have 1 bass
3. I also love the fender flats, I'm going to keep rounds on my P, are the Fender rounds any good ? What are the stock strings on it at the moment ? I've only ever used Roto rounds (on my Jazz Bass Special because it's the law that you have to use those strings on that bass) an they would be horrible on the Flea
4. As I own a sunburst 60's RW Jazz and the Flea 62 RW Jazz I'd be all over a 60's P in a cool custom colour. Sea foam green, LPB
5.
Seen that, there`s also a black one on there for £600 Buy It Now.
I got mine 2 years ago for £250, I'd buy another couple at that price but £500+ is too much for a bass I wouldn't play on stage (I play in an indie band and any Gn'f'inR references would be frowned upon)
6.
Seen this? http://basschat.co.u...-serial-number/
Yep, very nice. There's also a pearl JBS on eBay for £900!! It's the correct duff spec but has the f caps on the knobs missing.
7. I have exactly this bass (well not exactly this one but you know what I mean) and it's stunning, my go to over a USA and a CIJ. It has a very similar feel to a 1961 Jazzmaster I used to have but without the worries of a vintage instrument.
8. Glad this isn't a 4 string or I'd be selling stuff
9. I I love Jazz Bass Specials. I have an almost mint black one and they are great basses, I keep thinking I need to get a pearl one too
10. I'm sure this will have been covered before but as it's fresh in my mind... I was watching guitar heros at the BBC V last night in iPlayer. The bass player from the Skids was playing a slab, BUT it looked like a Jazz body ? Rosewood neck, block and bound, the body was the correct blonde. Any ideas ?
11.
Used mine outside too, yesterday. Played for nearly 2 1/2 hours. It sounded fab. Really really fab. I love the fizz of the single coil.
How do you have it set on the controlls I had mine all on the neck pick up and dialled in tone to suit the song (volume off on the bridge pot but tone fully open). As I play close to the bridge I find the bridge pickup (on any Jazz) a bit harsh.
12. Used mine at a beer garden gig yesterday. Sounded great but again the amp was cranked (well 12 o'clock on Vol and Gain on an Orange Bass Terror 500) In a pub that would normaly be pealing plaster with the old Road Worn. I really need to A/B
13.
what are the pickups on the roadworn, any idea? how do they compare to the Flea?
I have nothing but love for the RW and it's pickups, i'm not sure if it was ever agreed what they were but the rumor was US. The Flea is meant to be AVRI but again who know with Fender. I've not had chance to A/B the basses but will be doing this weekend.
14. I have both https://www.instagram.com/p/BIA-yNXAnuJ/?taken-by=wearethenames
15.
If it's anything like mine, it sounds better as the strings deaden. I'm now thinking of some flats. I used it again 3 times over the weekend. I do love it. I've not had a bass for many years, that I look forward to playing live.
I have flats on my other roadworn and love it, I was thinking of keeping rounds on this one, I don't hate them as much as I remember hating them on my P Bass. I think you should put some flats on yours and let me know how it is before I do it
16. I'm a big fan of Fender flats tried a few and love the Fenders
17.
Could obviously be one high fret near the bottom of the neck hence the buzz all over. And/Or Could be a ski jump has developed. This can happen gradually over time but because of the tiny clearances involved you can notice it all of a sudden if your playing style is robust. Also what cab happen is after changing strings the neck bends one way, then the other this can make a fret that wasn't totally secure (for various reasons) move that tiny amount to cause buzz. At .013 and 2.5mm you should not get any fret buzz at all really some very hard pluckers could yes but it seems that. This happens a lot on bolt on necks. Although it can happen to set and neck through construction. I'm typing this on a mobile so can't see where your based. If your in the north east I will happily sort out any issues.
I'm in Leeds but ofen up in your neck of the woods so will be in touch cheers! I think some of my issue is i'm playing acoustically when setting up a bass and worked out while playing live yesterday I have a much softer technique when amplified! (I always use a pick)
18. I've used mine for 3 gigs now. Sounds great, nice and light, totally replaceable if it walks which my other basses aren't, roadworn so not botherd leaving it stood against amps or getting knocked on the drum kit. The only thing I have noticed is my amp is higher, not sure if that's just because of the different venues we have been playing or the output of the pickups is less than my other roadworn, not had chance to A/B them yet. Very happy so far, I hope it keeps wearing and breaking in like my other roadworn has.
19. It's definite fret buzz as it's only started since i messed with the setup. I'll find a decent luthier to review the frets. Thanks guys!
20. I've set up my 2001 USA P bass again this weekend, Neck relief is OK at .13. I then set the action at 2.5mm at the 12th fret on E going down to 2mm on G. I get a buzz when playing on all frets on all strings so not a relief issue. 2.5mm is the Fender recommended height, I have 2.5mm on other basses with no issues. Why is this bugger buzzing ?? This is about the 6 time I've set it up so might be time to take to a pro. I've changed from rounds to flats which have helped a little due to higher tension. Any other ideas ?
21. Nice bass and kinda birth year. When you get round to selling it let me know Karl (as long as it's not 10lbs)
