  1. Respect to you for getting it up into and down from the loft, respect to your house for the weight not collapsing the ceiling 😂
  2. This Saturday (9th) I’m heading out to the wilds of Northumberland to play what will be my second full gig on EUB only at the rather marvellous Star Inn in Harbottle (also the scene of my first EUB only gig so I must have done something right 😂) with our acoustic trio covering the best of Americana, country and more. We have a few guests joining us, so it should be a fun filled night. Kick-off is 8pm.
  3. As others have said, very subjective question. I’ve owned the Sire and I loved it. I only sold mine when I got home from a five year stint in Holland as I have another 5 string jazz in the stable here (Overwater) and Mrs JPJ says I have too many basses 🤷‍♂️
  4. I have one of those rare Ashdown Neo 400W 1x15 combo’s that I’ve found to be plenty loud enough on its own in a variety of band settings. Mine lives in its flight case on castors and that seems to do the same thing as those sexy Auralex isolation pads as this thing punches way above its weight.
  5. She’s a beautiful looking thing and I was tempted myself but I was put off by the manly 4/4 dimensions 😂 Good luck on your journey with db, a journey I hope to join you on soon.
  6. Sold pending! Cheers Sam
  7. Now £150, bargain price!
  8. I’ll try this again but now at the bargain price of just 33 pence per watt. The ultimate professional bass amplifier from the sadly defunct SWR stable. Overkill for my current gigs, and I need the space so I’ll let this go for £500. If you’re in the market for a stadium filling amp, then this is your answer.
  9. Thanks Pete, I should have said I am looking for a used example.
  10. So, after years of EUB ownership, I think it’s finally time I moved on to the real thing. I’ve recently missed out on a couple of really nice instruments on here due to my in-built procrastination engine (recently upgraded to version 1.5), and after hour upon hour of late night internet advice browsing I thought I’d ask the Basschat massive for your advice. The bass will be used in a country/Americana acoustic trio, exclusively Pizz (I’ve tried the bow and I think it’s safe to say it’s not for me). So, when buying my first bass, what should I look out for. Budget will be around £1,000 - £1,200, and if you are offering a specific bass, the nearer to the North East of England the better please.
  11. Just want to give a big shout out to @Burns-bass for his help with my query. Top basschatter 👍 Thanks again 🙏
  12. Wow thanks for pointing this out. Due in no small part to my lack of theory or technique, I’ve stayed away from this sub-forum but it looks like I’ve been missing out 🤦
  13. So, prior to lockdown I was taking lessons and learning to read the dots. I really need to pick it up again and I’m looking for an online source for good quality bass sheet music. What do you use and can you recommend?
  14. I’d probably go for the Eminence that was up on here, and have it converted to left handed. Removable neck for flying and having seen a few American country and blue grass bassists using them over here, I’m guessing they are the flight bass of choice.
  15. Just in from a very enjoyable evening at the Harbour View Speakeasy in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear. This is a very popular buskers type night with a featured player or band given 45 mins at the end to close out the night. I played tonight with our acoustic’ish trio doing a set of country & Americana tunes to an appreciative audience. Only my second gig entirely on EUB and i just about got away with it. Lovely to see a pub full of music lovers on a Thursday night.
  16. My understanding is that the Basschat 1x12 design is FRFR and reading the comments from those who have completed builds, it certainly appears to be so. I’m sure you’ll get a lot of comments suggesting you simply buy a PA top cab and run through that as your power amp & speaker combo and I know of a couple of local bass players who have gone down that route with varying degrees of success.
  17. I’m on my third EUB, and each one has been quite different. Like quite a few of us electric players who’ve crossed over to DB, I started with the Stagg which sounded nothing like a DB and was difficult to play as it spun around requiring a lot of left hand steadying. My second was a five string KK Baby Bass, and whilst this was a massive step up from the Stagg, I had issues with the weight of the instrument which ultimately led to an old left thumb injury rearing its head, so that one had to go. Sound-wise, the KK definitely had thump but it missed the harmonic content of a true DB. I’m now gigging an NS NXT 4 string and this has been a revelation. The fact the bass is on a stand means you can get the bass to sit where you want it to, taking all the stress out of your left hand/arm. Sound-wise, again it doesn’t sound like a DB ‘out of the box’ (and it was never intended to) but there are a few tricks you can do (change to the NS Traditional string, use a ninomute or similar) that can get you pretty darned close. In my current doubling rig, I am running the NS through a TC Electronics impulse loader using the 3Sigma impulses designed specifically for the NS and others tell me I am achieving a very convincing double bass sound/tone. Bottom line is you can spend thousands going down the EUB route and still not achieve a true double bass sound/tone. Where I am at right now is a sound/tone that is close enough to the sound of a good DB amplified using a piezo type pickup, and whilst I am still lusting after a real DB, I’m happy where I am at right now. However, if I ever get the wife’s redundant treadmill out of my office/man cave, then a real DB will probably arrive shortly thereafter.
  18. Latest iteration of my board. Gone are all the effects - I just don’t use them. This board is now purely about the tone, and covers my doubling gigs on EUB/fretless/acoustic/electric bass. The SushiboxFX Finally is really my secret sauce ‘always on’ pedal that just adds a lovely warmth in front of my amps and has a great FOH DI out. The TC Impulse loader is for my NS EUB and I am running the 3Sigma German bass and Czech bass impulses. Combined with the ninomute I’m getting a pretty convincing DB sound live.
  19. Personally, I think you’ll be lucky to sand through the new paint and leave the aging on the original paint intact. Sandpaper might be way too aggressive unless you are thinking of 2000 grit and above wet sanded. Might be worth trying some alcohol rubbed with wire wool first to see how easy the new paint releases from the old?
  20. Does the bass have a scratchplate? I’ve had those resonate in the past, but its nothing a small piece of double sided tape didn’t fix
  21. You don’t have to rip one out of a dead box. When the amp blew in one of my EV ZX15’s I was able to source a complete new plate amp (including the dsp) for around £250. Not sure what the crossover point is, but I have used one of my ZX15’s as a bass monitor driven by my EBS Stanley Clarke pre and it sounded great.
  22. I do enjoy these guys videos but when they are sitting there doing the bobble heads to whatever piece of music they are listening to, I can’t help but think of Beavis and Butt-Head 😂
  23. There are rumours circulating in certain circles that Behringer are about to launch a Wing Compact, and a Wing rack, hence the discounts on the x32 stuff.
  24. For the XR18 I use the Behringer app on Windows and I’m a bit of a novice with Mixing Station but I’ve found that if you hit Mix/FX Send button on the main display, then tap on the name of the bus you want to EQ, you can access the PEQ for that bus. Hope this helps?
