Just a thought, but why cant more amp manufacturers adopt Oranges trick of the 4/8 ohm switch on the Terrorbass allowing you to get maximum output from their amp with either a 4 or 8 ohm load. Given that the Terrorbass is hardly in 'boutique' territory price-wise, I'd guess this must be a fairly easy thing to do? Just a thought but I couldnt imagine our six string brethren settling for an amp that only put out a 1/4 or 1/2 its stated output in one cab.

I'm from the 'old skool' when it comes to bass rigs. My main rig, as a few of you already know is an SWR1500 paired with two Golly 4x10's and looks like this (gratuitous rig shot) [IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/JPJ/28c93481.jpg[/IMG] However, until recently (i.e. yesterday ) I have also been using an Orange Terror Bass into my 8 ohm Schroeder 21012-a-like which sounded wicked, was loud enough for most of the gigs I do, and was so portable as to mean only two trips to the car rather than the usual 5. When I re-speakered the Schroeder cabinet I opted for 8 ohms as at that time I could never have imagined using only one cab, so always had the intention of building a second one, but having used it on its own with the Terror Bass I wished I'd opted for a 4 ohm version. -

Solidly built, metal housing on the receiver, battery life is about 6 hours, but with the battery meter on both the transmitter pack and receiver, there's no excuse if you run flat Great tone, and the cable simulator really works. Sit's front and central on my amp head and haven't had any problems with signal drop in any of the venues we play (small pubs right up to large bike rallies). Best thing I ever bought and is actually as much use in small venues when you are practically stood on top of your amp as in the larger places, not standing on your lead every two seconds is big plus for me. If mine was to give up the ghost tomorrow, I'd be buying a replacement in a shot.

Just had to sell mine due to a change in circumstances but honestly I'd have kept her if I could have, tone a plenty and enough girth/volume to kill most guitarists in a toaster sized box. -
Briefcase user here and can confirm that my Stagg EUB sounds the dogs spherical's through it. In fact, the Briefcase seems more at home with the EUB than with a standard bass guitar (not that it sounds bad with the BG). Not much volume but more than enough for home practice, keeping up with a couple of acoustic guitars. Wouldn't really like to gig with just the briefcase but great when there is PA support for your FOH sound.

[b]Orange Terror Bass 500[/b] I recently purchased this lovely little Orange Terror Bass 500w amp head off our very own GarethFriend on here in February of this year. Prior to purchasing this, the valves had been upgraded to include a NOS Jan Phillips 5751 in the first position and a JJ 12AX7 in the second position, which have the effect of cooling down the gain meaning she stays cleaner a lot longer than the stock valve version and gives much more of that 'British' tone with a smooth less knarly overdrive. These amps include an impedance switch so that they can deliver their full 500w into either a 4 or an 8 ohm load and believe me, these are loud. I've been pairing this with my Schroeder 21012 and even up against a loud drummer and a 100w Marshall equipped guitarist in a loud'ish rhythm and blues quartet, I've never needed the master past 11 o'clock. The amp comes with the original box, the neat little Orange gig bag, a mains lead and an inline DI attenuator. Apparently, the DI on these can be a little hot as it is post master, but on the couple of occasions that I've gigged her, the sound man has either not taken the bass in the PA or had no problem with the normal output, so I haven't actually used the attenuator yet! Price wise, I'm only looking to get back what I paid in February so £360 + postage. I'm only selling her as I am about to be made redundant and can't afford to have money tied up in two amps. I must have been extremely lucky when I got my Stagg because quite honestly, its got no real quality issues. Mine was bought second hand from an experienced DB player who had changed the strings and sorted some of the minor niggles. For what you pay for one of these, they are an absolute steal. As to sounding like a DB, well mine does a pretty good impersonation of an amplified DB, especially when I play her through my PJB Briefcase combo. I'm limited to an EUB due to space issues and have tried more expensive NS EUB's but actually prefer the feel of the Stagg. Oh and on a final plus point, mines all black and looks a sexy as sexy can be

Bliddy Hell, what a cracking price for a 750x. I used to use one of these and can vouch for the tone and the volume. This is a serious pro amp head at any price but at £350 Someone is going to get one hell of a bargain here people. -
Agreed, these look very interesting. I've fancied a 'progress' type bass for a while, but the Aspirations just didn't quite do it for me. Looking forward to getting my hands on one of the 5 string 35" rosewood ones with maple cap. Sounds like a trip to Carlisle is in order!
