  1. Purchased in September 2022 from PMT for £179 as a replacement for my Line6 G50 that died on me after about ten years of loyal service. This G30 has probably done less than 50 gigs since purchase and is in ‘as new’ condition and will come with two quality leads to connect the transmitter to your bass, and will be in the original box with the unopened power supply and manuals etc. The only difference to new is that there is Velcro on the bottom of the receiver unit. Cheapest I can see one of these online today is £150 so grab mine for 2/3rds of the cost of new. Price is on collection, willing to throw in UK second class signed for postage for £5. Any questions, please ask.
  2. So the Shure arrived yesterday and I am very impressed. I used to think that my old Line6 G50 was road-ready but the Shure is built like the proverbial tank. Everything connected up as it should, and the battery is now fully charged (note: you have to connect/pair the transmitter with the receiver before the rechargeable battery in the transmitter will charge). The only negative is that the supplied cable to connect the transmitter to your bass feels a bit flimsy. Sadly, it arrived just too late to make it onto my board for last nights rehearsal so its first outing will be on the main stage at the North East’s largest bike festival on the 31st. What could possibly go wrong with this plan (although if anything does, having the direct input on the receiver will soon sort it out). 😎
  3. Nice work, like mine, it will be interesting to see how long the fingerboard finishes stand up 👍😎
  4. I had the Harley Benton one, and just sold it recently to Guy Trigg. The build was actually very good, but the fitted strings were a bit rubbish. Upgraded to Aquila strings and it was a fun little thing to play.
  5. So having watched all Guy Pratt’s lockdown videos numerous times, I convinced myself I needed effects and a year or so ago I bought this. Fast forward to today and I’ve come to the realisation that I don’t need effects at all in any of my live gigs, so this has been removed from my board and is gathering dust in the man cave. Works exactly as it should, and is in A1 minus condition, the only negative being some small black marks/scratches on the front edge where it was rubbing up against my Sansamp. Velcro on the bottom between the original rubber feet so you have the option of either. I’m sure I’ll have the original box or this in the loft (I’ll check later) Price is £175 collected or £180 including UK second class signed for postage. Any questions please ask.
  6. Thanks for this. I’m looking for a pedal board style unit to shorten up setup times so I think I’m going to go with the GLXD16+
  7. At one time most rock bands had as much side fill as they had FOH, and a few years ago, I got to play the main stage at the Bulldog Bash where the PA had two big stacks of side fill and it was the best on stage sound spread I’ve ever had. You could literally wander anywhere on stage and still hear yourself clearly.
  8. A final update. I found a little bit of time this morning to complete the setup on the Warwick. In the end I had to spend quite a bit of the little bit of time I had filing 1mm off the bottom of the bridge saddle, and cleaning an amalgamation of tru-oil from the baseplate of the just’a’nut. Restrung, added a bit of relief to the neck (I had it flat when the strings were sitting higher) and boom, she plays like butter (not that I’ve ever tried to play butter). To say I’m very happy with the end result is an understatement and I think the conversion has changed this bass from a case queen to a daily noodler 😎.
  9. Must resist the urge to send you more money Nigel, beautiful amp, GLWTS 😎
  10. I currently have basses with BBOT, Hipshot model A, an original Ibanez hi-mass from the 80’s, a Badass, and monorails. The only bass that sounds significantly different is the bass with the mono rails. The difference is more noticeable unplugged, and I put it down to less sympathetic vibrations from the unplayed strings.

    Noble Tube DI

Personally, the Noble is totally out of my price range, but for a lot less money you can get the SushiBoxFX Finally “with bass in mind” valve driven DI. No EQ, but gain and level, switchable HPF, DI out with separate level control, and ground lift. Mine has become my ‘secret sauce’ box and it brings my passive fretless precision to a whole other level.
  12. I was reading the other on a luthier Facebook group about just how common this issue is with wenge necked Warwick’s. Good luck with the replacement.
  13. So I’ve been browsing options and as I want a reliable system, pedalboard mounted, with a proper body pack rather than a dongle so it looks like the Shure GLXD+16 is the only option unless the Basschat collective have any better alternatives?
  14. If you want to include rack mount, then trawl through the Amps for sale section far enough and you’ll find I was trying to sell the superb SWR Marcus Miller pre a while ago with zero interest.
  15. I know what you mean. We had a couple of sit-in’s on Sunday, both of whom are capable players/singers, but it does make you think what’s the point of rehearsing when the band leader just gets his old mates up and shouts ‘twelve bar in A’ at you and off you go. Having said that, the locals loved it 🤷‍♂️
  16. After my Line6 G50 died i needed a quick replacement and the only thing available immediately was the Line6 G30. Despite being decidedly more plasticy than my old G50, its performed well but recently one of our guitarists (who just happens to be stage left with me) has bought himself the Boss unit and I’ve started to get interference issues, At first I simply moved to another channel and that was fine, but at yesterday’s gig we were in very close proximity and when he turned my way, his transmitter was knocking one of the three bars of reception off on my Line6 and occasionally causing a momentary complete drop in signal. So it looks like I’m going to be in the market for a new setup 😤
  17. We were up in the wilds of Northumberland again plying our Americana trade. Great gig, well attended and received, which is all the more note worthy given it was about 25C and sunny outside. For the first time, we had the drunk punter, an older guy who ‘wanted to get up and play a song he’d written’. No amount of explaining that we couldn’t do that, that the audience were there to see us and not him etc could dissuade him. Fortunately, shortly after the start of the second set he got the message and left.
  18. In the interests of fairness, the Fender Tony Franklin P bass has an unlined ebony board 😎
  19. I’ve gone with the TC Electronics Impulsive pedal.
  20. I’ve still got both the SWR Grand Prix and Marcus Miller preamps cluttering the place up here. The MM is a serious bit of kit, but completely overkill for my modest needs. The Grand Prix is a much simpler and more valvey sounding pre, but is superseded by pedal pre’s such as my EBS Stanley Clarke. I run either through the marvellous little 1/2 U SWR Amplite power amp which is tiny but rated at 400W into 4ohms.
  21. So you are experimenting with going without backline, but you find your sound through the PA or monitors/in-ears lacks something? What you need is a cab sim and this little pedal does it all. Regular input and output jacks and an XLR out to feed FOH or recording. Comes pre-loaded with various speaker cabs including a Markbass 2x10 and the Ampeg 8x10 ‘fridge’ for us bassists. Loading your own IR’s is as simple as hooking this up to your computer and dragging your IR over onto the pedal that appears as an external hard drive. I recently bought this from our own Berserker as part of my experimentation into using double bass IR’s live with my NS EUB. Unfortunately for me, the Sonicake only allows IR’s of 23ms length, whereas the IR’s I wanted to use were 200ms. 23ms is more than enough for a cab sim, and the results are very convincing. Pedal is in excellent condition, has Velcro on the base, and comes in original box with instruction cards. Price includes UK second-class postage.
  22. Looking fantastic, just needs an aluminium fretboard……….I’ll get my coat 😂
  23. I was just going to suggest a wooden dowel in the drill press and grinding paste. It’s how they taught me at apprentice training school when I had to put a machined finish on a centre-finder I made in toolmaking class.
  24. It’s not Christmas until Noddy says it’s Christmas 😂
  25. Yep, one of the best explanations of compression I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a few)
