1. Yeah limelight have been on my radar, but they're not exactly vintage spec - modern neck profile, nut width and fretboard radius being the most obvious. Maybe that wouldn't matter so much, but I wouldn't know without playing one.
2. I suspect I know the answer to this (that being "who knows"!) but I'll ask it anyway... Does anybody know why Fender have never released a 60s version of their Roadworn P bass? Best bass I've ever played is a friend's 64 precision. I'm never likely to own one myself (although I came close to buying a refinished '66 a few years ago) and, judging by the 60s Roadworn Jazz I used to own, a Roadworn 60s P, if such a thing existed, would be as close as I'd be likely to get! I know Fender do the USA 60s Reissue models but...
3. [s]I'd maybe approach this a little differently if none of the cleaning works. Try pulling each preamp valve in turn, starting with the first one (they're usually numbered V1 - V?) and switching the amp on to check if it stops the problem. This won't do the amp any harm, but should isolate the issue to a certain section of the circuit. Don't blindly swap valves either - note that you're swapping like for like. Their are 3 different flavours of preamp valve in there for a reason...[/s] Just reading that last comment again - if your volume control makes no difference it probably isn't in the preamp...
4. I remember when you were having this built. Beautiful bass.
5. I've been putting together a shortlist of amps to use with my Two10. Be very interested to hear what anyone can add about the Reidmar with the 10" cabs. It's not an amp I would usually consider as the EBS sound wouldn't be for me typically. The Markbass stuff seems to match well, whereas I've heard people say the vintage-esque tone of the Aguilar Tonehammer amps is too much of the same thing with the Retro leanings of the Barefaced cab. I may end up back with the Orange Terror Bass as it's the closest I've found to my favoured Ashdown ABM tone... If only Ashdown could do a decent small format/lunchbox amp. Closest they've managed IMHO is the Little Bastard which is hardly the same thing!
6.
Here's the latest version of mine. Set up to run a Yamaha Attitude using both outputs from the Bass, feeding 2 inputs on the Mixer. Chain is: Woofer (neck) pickup > Micro POG > Spectracomp > Bass Driver > mixer input. P Pickup > EBS Billy Sheehan Deluxe > Rolls Crossover > Spectracomp > Para Driver > mixer input. ABY switch is in the drive loop of the EBS to switch the drive channel off / on. No amp on stage for me these days, I use in-ears (Ultimate Ears UE900s).
Very Sheehan-esque! Love it!
7. Valves need to be warm to operate. Each valve has a heating element inside. Nothing to worry about. You should feel how warm a good old plexi gets after a few hours! Would be more worried about the power amp getting hot.
8. If they're wizards they're wizards, new wizards are hot rods I believe...
9. Would this work for 3 controls and a jack? Have you got a pic? Geek's pic link in his thread seems to go to an empty folder...
10.
I think you mean 14 hole ...
No, he means 4 control holes...
11. These are awesome combos. Had mine longer than almost anything else in my gear collection. Been a LOT of stuff come and go over the years, but my 1x10 is never going anywhere....
12. Wouldn't that sort of grill interfere with the flow of air from the ports? You maybe don't want to hear that!
13. DAMNIT! If this falls through I'll take it (if you can post that is!)
14. I'd seen on that other bass related talking site where someone had used the X2N-7 in the bridge with good results. Probably worth considering!
15. Ooooh, ooooh, what'd you go for Mike?
16. The Attitude II would be more likely than the III for me, and they seem to be around the £750 (achievable) to £1k (a step too far). I think visually I'd rather add a neck pickup to a precision, but adding £160+ quid of pickups to a Roadworn and you'd be into lower Attitude territory... I've never played an Attitude, or a Roadworn P for that matter but I have played a Classic 50's P which has the same neck dimensions minus the "softening" and liked it a lot. Oh decisions, decisions... If I can locate some Will Power pickups I might just put them in my Yamaha Pulser and be done with it!
17. Sold Ruud my 3leaf Enabler. Prompt payment and good comms. And he likes it too which is a bonus!
18.
My 83 P has the wide nut width, i don't know the name of the series (if there was one), they were black/maple with white pickup covers and a white guard, worth looking out for if you like the feel of wider width necks. i'm always surprised by how nice it is to play, despite having small hands. I find fast solos that involve a lot of string skipping tricky on it but for everything else it's perfect.
Sounds like an Elite. Does it have a fairly substantial bridge as opposed to a BBOT?
19.
Another option for you could be to try and find a roadworn neck for transplant onto the body of your choice? I personally really rate the neck of a RW Precision.
Again, something I'd already considered, but well into 300 quid by the time it would be delivered. Probably best seeking out a complete Roadworn P - would HAVE to be sunburst though! (You know what this is for Lewis, having discussed it a bit last week. I've a wanted ad up for the Will Power pickups to try in one of my current P basses first, but no joy yet...)
20. Aw shucks... Now I'm blushing!
21. I'm putting my Ashdown CTM30 up for sale. 30 watt all valve bass amp. Bought as I missed my LB30, but I think it's been used for a grand total of 4 hours since I hatched it from the box... Absolutely as new. Have the original box (and user instructions!) so shipping is a possibility, but not included in the price. Sounds brilliant but I'm not playing it enough to justify keeping it I'm afraid. After attempting to price courier services for this to EU I'm afraid this should be considered UK only unless you want to be charged an extortionate rate for shipping! Price drop to 250 plus shipping (£13 to UK mainland by parcelforce next day). Trades I'm really interested in at present would be for valve preamps (SVP CL, SWR IOD, etc.), Sansamp VT DI, Behringer X air 16. I'm full up on the bass and cab fronts...
22. Oh I like that a lot!
23. Cool. Not in a buying position right now, just doing my homework. Ideally I'm after a Yamaha Attitude, but I'm working on a backup plan!
