This might be a nonsense idea, but the best cab I've ever owned was a Tech Soundsystems 4x12. Tech Soundsystems, became Tecamp, which is now Eich. German engineered bass gear. Light and VERY loud with an Orange Terror, although a little on the large side (a bit bigger in every dimension than a 4x10). I know there are a few out there so it might be worth a wanted ad in the classifieds section. The 4x10 equivalent is supposed to be excellent too. Both sell for well under your budget as they are relatively unknown.

Yes new pot required, but in better news that one isn't attached to the preamp pcb so it's a relatively easy fix! Brightside!

I like the Tech 21 VT pedals much more than the darkglass stuff actually. I've had the V1 and V2 versions of the VT bass.

I've noticed an odd one. On the front page of the forum where the sub forums are listed with the titles of the most recent post, I've noticed (quite often recently) that there could be a title there that isn't actually present in the sub forum... E.g. Just a second ago (11.22am to be exact) there was an N/S Stick for sale according to the front page thread title (posted at 11.04am). But in the Basses for sale forum it's nowhere to be found...

Suppose it comes down to whether your "clean" tone needs EQ, or your dirty tone does. If you need the DI from the VMTD you're stuck with the EQ on your dirty tone unless you have another DI somewhere in the chain.

I'd be the same. My Blueberry clone is on all the time for a bit of light breakup that I stack my other pedals on top of.

Was confused by the VD (I've seen it mostly referred to as VMTD), but get you now. Only disadvantage I can see to that is you can't use the VMTD as a clean preamp in this case like you could with the Ultra.

What about stacking a little dirt in front of it?

While I'm in no way a fan of the Darkglass sound, I think your thread title is a little unfair on Darkglass as it suggests you're disappointed with the product because it does what it was designed to do, rather than what you wanted it to do. Entirely your own fault on this one I'm afraid. Even a cursory glance at the controls would have told you how it worked. You're a generation ahead of what you're looking for I think - Doug has been hinting digital control and analogue signal paths on his social media accounts so an ultra with presets could be a real thing in the future... although I shudder to think how much that would cost... On the bright side they sell like hotcakes second hand and you won't be left stuck with it!

They're an odd crowd and no mistake. They can produce the best equipment imaginable, IMO (CTM, ABM, sig series pedals for example), but there seems to be a total lack of a common sense filter... which means they also come out with, at best some mad design decisions (Dr. Green pedals), and at worst some total dross, as their website will attest (Meters Cubed bluetooth speakers, B-Social). If you don't have a competitive advantage, don't compete!

The Reidmar is a solid state amp. No solid state amp needs a dummy load. That's just a concern for valve amps. Can't answer the 2nd question I'm afraid...
