1. Hi guys, Just a brief update. I was cruising the evil that is ebay one night a few weeks ago and stumpled upon a schecter model T 4 string with a few hours to go, sub £200. Having played one on a trip to Glasgow Sound Control in the past I had a fair idea that they weren't utter pants (I somehow seem to remember crap basses I play in shops, but not the good ones - is that a sign that overall quality has improved over recent years??). So I thought it would be worth a punt. If I didn't like it I could flog it on and make my money back. I didn't even notice at the time that it had proper SD pickups and everything! Anyway, long story short, £206 plus postage and a short wait has landed me with a real peach of a bass. Exactly what I was looking for and almost comparable in quality with basses I've paid more than 3 times as much for. I'm well chuffed! Moral of the story - I didn't have to spend the £600 I was planning to to get exactly what I was after, do you? It also turned out that I bought it from a fellow BCer - who is also selling a peavey G-bass in the classifieds at the minute! Cheers Ian
2. If rays are your thing then get another ray! There was someone here selling a ltd ed buttercream HH ray in the classifieds. Having played an HH I can heartily recommend them.
3. Parcelfarce are indeed well named. I've just returned home from a trip to our 'local' depot (33 miles away to be exact) where I was told that the item I was looking for (a schecter model T 4 string) was out for delivery again - apparently I had phoned and asked them to attempt delivery again, which I hadn't... so while I was on my way to the depot, the parcelfarce man was at my house trying to deliver the bass. NOT IMPRESSED!!!
4. I recently received a Brownnote D'lite kit to build. Looking forward to getting started. The other company I considered for kits was Ceriatone. Although based in Malaysia I've heard fantastic reports about Niks stuff and he has about 30 kits to choose from, all clones of classic valve amps from Fender Champs to Matchless DC30s to Trainwreck Express kits.
5. I have to say there's nothing there that floats my boat mate. Speaking personally I don't like Warwicks without Wenge necks at all (actually that's not true - the maple necked ones are ok, but I HATE HATE HATE ovangkol), detested every one of the Yamaha TRB2 basses I've ever played and wasn't horrified by the status, but wouldn't have bought it myself. Not sure about the Cort... In that sort of pricerange you could hold out for a nice Lakland though. Would beat all the above into a cocked hat without batting an eye and versatile too! Just IMHO and YMMV and all that...
6. Another vote for Wal - a bit silly really as I've just sold mine but made a tidy profit even though it was the untidyest example I'd ever seen. About 10 years ago you could pick one up for buttons - I know one guy who had trouble shifting his in Glasgow and eventually settled for £350 and thought he'd done well at that! 80's Aria Pro basses, early 90's Warwicks, limited edition Lakland/Musicman basses maybe. Who knows what else...
7. I had no problem getting a peavey 8x10 into the back of my old 306 with plenty of room to spare - but not recommended as a one person lift (although I did manage it when I had to!)... it sounded the mutts nutts though!
8. Lovely bass! Quick question. Where'd you get the replacement tort guard from Mike?
Hi Guys Still after money to fund a bathroom for our new house! This is a relatively new addition, a Sting signature P-bass with tort guard, a moulded Fender hardcase, and upgraded basslines pickup - which sounds huge - the perfect early P-bass tone. I will include the original fender pickup - as well as the white pickguard. The neck has been sanded slightly to remove the thick gloss, so now much more playable. The only marks I can find on the bass is on the neck - one part around the seventh fret is a bit lighter than the rest of the neck - purely aesthetic, can't feel it or anything, happened during the sanding. Looking for £450 ono. Any questions feel free to PM but my internet access is limited so feel free to ring or text to 07729224338. Cheers! Mike PS Based in Chelmsford, Essex (CM2 6TY) Prefer pickup but can ship for about £16 or so!
9. Hi Guys, I'm on the lookout for a P+J bass. I had considered just buying a jazz of some description and replacing the neck pickup with a 'P', but I'm really looking for a precision sized neck. Fender offer very little in this regard - anyone have some other suggestions. Budget would be £600 absolute max. Ideally I wouldn't have to add a decent bridge and pickups outside this budget. Cheers Ian
