  1. Bumperoo on this little baby............. offers.........MIJ P bass anyone?
  2. depends............if it's a wedding or a corporate, it'll be something like 'swee disposition', 'last night or similar. If it's a 'for fun' pub gig, it'll be something like the band's 'don't do it' or Free's 'I'm a Mover'........
  3. sorry to hear that!! Anyone else up for starting a basschat vigilante group??!! catch the crims and subject them to detuned bass at deafening volumes................
  4. I've been reading this wih some interest. I'm in a working function band with friends - we were friends before we formed this band. It's run as a proper legit business - I manage pretty much everything. We play decent weddings and large corporate events so need a decent PA. All payments for gigs goes into our partnership account - each month, we get paid less band expenses and a bit of a float. I look after this. We also take a roadie / van driver/ sound engineer with us. His invoices come straight out of the band account also. Our accountant does all of our returns and P&L account etc. We hire a splitter van for gigs and we rent a decent set of 6 speakers (Adlibs and GAE), 2 x power amps, crossover and stagebox off a PA hire company locally. For bigger gigs, we hire in a line array with engineers and an LS9. The costs for all of this comes straight out of 'the band's' earnings and then goes into our accounts to come off our gross earnings at the end of each year. We've just bought a new set of Beta 58's, a D112, some new LED parcans, a desk, outboard, xlrs, stands, flightcases etc etc and we also pay for stage suits, fuel, printing, recording - basically anything associated with the running of and promoting of the business. I play bass only in this band so don't need a vocal mic, and only go in the PA on certain occasions, but for us to sound and look our best, we need this equipment. I wouldn't dream of saying "I'm not contributing as I don't use it". After costs each month, we get paid. Simple really. We couldn't work if we didn't have the gear. If one of us leaves, we will just pay them out 25% of the market value of the gear owned by the band at that point. They obviously own all their own gear such as guiatrs, drums, amps etc.
  5. It came in a flightcase - and I like it that way - it's easy to load, I don't worry about things falling on it and I can push it around with ease!!
  6. When playing bigger venues I used to have my cab mic'd with either a Beta 52a or an AKG D112 with a 2nd channel being DI'd. This was more often than not off my sans amp. They worked great together.
  7. Ok, so, as can be seen in my profile, I currently use an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro with a Warwick 4x10. I also own an Ampeg BA300 115 combo. I also have some cash available.... I'm really happy with the SVT 3 Pro in terms of sound and 'carry-ability'. The Warwick is great soundwise - though I'm not a fan of the look really so will be wanting to get rid of it. I'm not a massive fan of the sound of the BA300 - I traded it as I wanted something more portable - it fits the bill perfectly being in a full custom, wheeled flightcase but it's just not quite 'there'. I also quite like the 'classic' silverface look. I'm looking to move this on also. What I'm after is (ideally), another 'classic' looking cab to pair with the SVT 3 - I quite like the idea of Barefaced S12T. This would mainly be for 'bigger' gigs and kept in the rehearsal studio otherwise - this isn't such an 'urgent' change as I also have access to a few cabs (Ashdown 4x10 and an Ampeg 1x 15) if I get rid of the Warwick soon. More urgently, I'm after a reasonably small and compact (and portable) quality combo (or amp and cab) that I'll use for most gigs. I'll probably get it flightcased as it'll be in and out of the van 3 times a week most weeks. I do have some interest in the combo from a local bassist so hopefully he will now buy it! Otherwise it's ebay or a trade. I like the 'look' of things like Aguilars, Ampegs, Matamps, Hiwatts etc - that sort of look. I need a decent amount of headroom, I'd like at least a valve preamp section (not essential as I have a VT Bass pedal and sans amp - so DI not essential either). It needs to be quality, reliable and have a kind of retro / cool look - I don't like to look of Mark Bass stuff for some reason, even though everyone raves about it. Speaker wise - I'm open to suggestions........ Any suggestions?!
  8. Have an 'I used to own this bass' bump...........
  9. Thanks guys....I will continue to do some research and see what we can sort! Thomann are selling them for £1790!! Have to send this Adlib / GAE system back!!
  10. http://www.hkaudio.com/products.php?m=1&emo=1 This seems to be the range of their active cabs in that sort of gigging situation..........
  11. Anyone got one, had one, used one etc? Currently we run a passive speaker set up consisting of 1 x Adlib AA151 (mid high) and 2 x GAE BRN 15's (subs) per side. Essentially, we stack the subs on top of each other with an Adlib on top on either side of the stage. These are powered by 2 x Crown power amps, plus a digital crossover. It sounds awesome! We're finding though that this is a pretty bulky system to manhandle and generally transport around, not to mention store!! Also, on many occasions, we arrive at a venue to find that we really only need to use 1 sub per side with the Adlib going on a stand instead and that the system we have is kind of too big! For bigger gigs, we hire in a bigger JBL SRX system anyway. We've been doing a bit of research and have been looking at the HK Elias PX system - pair of Active 12" mid highs on poles plus a pair of active 15" subs. They seem to be ideal - no lugging around a heavy flightcase with amps and a crossover, the mid highs are physically smaller and easier to move and store than the Adlibs, the subs are on wheels, and we wouldn't need to store 4 x 15" subs!! Has anyone got such as system, or experience of one? Are they as good as the reviews, do they have the headroom to manage reasonable sized rooms etc? I'd appreciate any info - good or bad!! In terms of what we run through the system - 4 x vocals, 2 x guitars, keys, bass, kick drum and an OH. It'd also be used for ipod / laptop etc. I appreciate that in a smaller venue, just using the mid highs, we wouldn't be putting bass or kick etc through the system!! Cheers!!
  12. I'd love it but I'd have to sell a few things first......like my wife...........or a kidney........
