1. late 80s/early90s 2nd bass collections - the properSGC Nanyo. Absolutely no resale value for some reason, but these were quality basses at the time. The 5s have an amazing flat neck profileand are unbelieveably light. I mean look at these. OK, it's £200, but it's five string and one of the higher spec models with translucent finish Bass Collection 5 Example 2
2. get a pen and paper ad knock yourself up some extra notes to help you remember the parts. I have to remember some shockingly complex parts for my covers band and I find the best way is to break the song down into manageable chunks. Charting out the different sections and adding a few pointers really helps.
3. I used to use Peavey gear and am ashamed but man enough to admit that I only moved it on out of brand snobbery. However, at the time, I thought my 410TX sounded better than a Trace Elliot 1048H and SWR Goliath and Hartke Transporter. The thing I could never get on with was the weight. There are a few short comings. My 410TX had sharp edges to the grill that tore a couple of pairs of jeans. There's also no protection circuit for the tweeter, so if you turn it up too high and send a particularly juicy signal through it you'll get a nice burning sound.
4.
Tunes in fifths - just like a banjo!
Or he's going from light to heavy
5.
With the Audere: More punchy sound, kinda agressive one (the preamp output signal is adjustable with a small screw inside). Being able to adjust lows, mids and highs separately is also very important to me; the mix is way better now. So I'd say: more punch and a more ''accurate" sound (is it the proper word ?). I'm afraid my English is too poor to describe the differences the way I feel so why not listening to a soundclip I recorded after I had put the Audere: here (with much reverb ) and one I recorded before: here (something more ''roots'') and make your own opinion ? Hope it helps.
The Audere is unbelieveable ona jazz bass. I have the deluxe model (with passive style tone) on my main Jazz V and the Z-mode switch really works well. Low-Z mode gves it a fat aggressive sound that really brings out the B. High-Z mode on the bridge pickup has alovely passive bark to it. With the exchaneg rate so favourable, I'd definitely reccomend one - mine was £135 inc shipping and customs charges.
6. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Carvin-6-string-bass...1QQcmdZViewItem This looks very much like my old 6 string, which I bought from an ebay seller in the US and sold on a few months later - something I kind of regret. IF it is the same bass, it has mahogany wings and neck, with a lovely flat neck profile- similar to the Status I believe. Fingerboard will be ebony, pickups Carvin's own humbucking j style and preamp with 2 band EQ. The pickups are probably the own weak point on this bass. Replacing them with Barts, Basslines or EMGs would really allow this bass to sing. currently £200.
7. This little beauty's been discussed before. It's made of pine - loads of lovely big knots in the wood. He strung it with strings that were only 0.05" apart in guage (120,115,110,105... you get the gist) I'm surprised the neck hasn't just folded in two - I bet it's nice and warped though. Fair play to the guy for attempting such an ambitious project, but face it, the instrument's fundamentally flawed in design and execution.
8. If you fancy venturing down to J9 or 10 of the M25 you're welcome to try out my Tech 2 x 12 and mini 15. The 2 x 12 is a beast of a cab - serious punch and clarity.

Which Wah?

Multi effects units all tend to be produced by large electronics companies with the R&D budgets to develop the custom ICs used in these units. Digital designs are not superior to analogue designs, just ultimately cheaper, once the above R&D costs have been covered because you can produce an effect with a fraction of the components. You get good digital products and bad digital products. If all digital products were ultimately superior to their analogue counterparts, music studios wouldn't bother spending top dollar on high quality valve compressors and vocal preamps, they'd pop down to Sound Control and stock up on Zoom multi-FX units instead.
11. This falls right in the middle of your budget. Soundtech PS802 400 Watts into 4 Ohms, 230W into 8 Ohms stereo or 800W into 8 Ohms mono bridged They're very very light. I used to own one and didn't rate it - it didn't seem to do much through my SWR Triads, but in hindsight, I think that was more a shortcoming of the cabs which seemed very voiced towards an SWR amp and flapped through anything else.
12.
Reet... my turn! Warwickhunt kindly dropped by our dep drummer audition with his Thunderfunk and mysterious TecAmp Black Cat in tow. I left my usual amp & pre in the case (AI Focus & EBS Microbass II), plugged my 70s flat-strung P into the Black cat into my Schroeder 21012L, flattened the EQ & fired it up. YOWZA! Instant WoT-friendly tone! Round, warm and distinct. Just how I like it. WH mentioned that he thought the EQ doesn't do much. I reckon TecAmp have got it spot on.. who needs +-20db, anyway? This is more subtle.. all I need. As it happens, I left it flat anyway and it sounded mint... very much like my AI/EBS, in fact - a tone I love. Then I swapped to the Thunderfunk & fired it up. Hmmm. I realise I'm in a party of one here, but... Thunderfunks don't do it for me. It has a 'bark' about it that doesn't suit my style. It'll probably be great with roundounds, but I'm too old-skool for that. So, back to the Black Cat... much better. Set'n'forget. I'm determined to sort out my current 'humming Genz' issue (see my thread elsewhere), but if I wasn't, I reckon be on the lookout for another TecAmp... Oh, aye... the Black Cat has a totally bling illuminated neon stripe along the bottom. What's there not to like??
Try the TVM600 - 700 Watts into 2 Ohms
13. I'd be more inclined to play the C# with the middle or ring finger and the bB with my index finger
14. I got mne made by http://www.coverovercovers.co.uk/
15. And go and visit the ghosts at Frangocastello.
16.
The Blackcat head likes being driven hard, and the eq is very sensitive to preamp volume and master volume settings.
Exactly like the TVM which is positively hifi sounding at low volumes.
17. I reckon one good fun way of really developing your bassline skills would be to buy one of the ultimate little fakebooks. These just feature the core melody line, be it vocal, piano or other instrument and list the chord changes, giving you the chance to work on the bass lines. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Fake-Book...7413&sr=8-1
18. I assume you're just using one side of the Black Cat into your 610, which I guess is 6 Ohms. That's a shame
19. The FAFNER also goes up to 11, so it's one louder than the TD650.
20. blimey - where did you get this from? If you don't like it, please give me first dibs. The EQ on the TVM is passive too and reacts very differently at different volumes. The treble is much more subtle when the amp is being played quietly - so much so that you thinks it's quite dull. You then turn up the treble to compensate. However, if you then turn the volume right up, the treble becomes too harsh. I find the best sound on mine is obtained by setting EQ flat and using gain and middle to dial in some character. I don't know whether the Black Cat conforms to this though.
21. If it were me, I'd go for a head and 2 2x10 cabs. Unless you get a combo, you won't get the full whack out of your amp unless you use both. Also, stacking 2 2x10s on end on top of each other is going to create a proper wall of bass.
22.
Jim mate, yes, you're naive. Zero feedback!!!!!!!!! If that doesn't give you 'any cause for alarm' with a bass of that value then I'm not surprised that scamming is so profitable! In a Darwinian world, if people weren't so bloody gullible scammers would soon become extinct Chris
A bit harsh, but these are the signs that all is not right Seller's name - gord56w8 only just joined. Bit of an odd name, possibly even randomnly generated post to - worldwide. Most people, especially with guitars, specify UK only,Europe only, worldwide is rare, especially from a new starter item location - UK, united Kingdom - not v.specific postage details - £20 seller's standard rate. Most sellers specify the actual method of shipping, which would be more for a guitar like that anyway and would def offer collection. and, finally, Private listing. Very fishy.
23. The internal cab of the combo is prob 4Ohms, Adding a second 4 ohm cab would drop load down to 2 Ohms, allowing the full 500 Watts. Adding an 8 Ohm cab would give you an impedance of around 3.5, so a slight increase in output. However, you're driving twice as many speakers, so you will be shifting more air.
24.
Your tutor sounds like a bit of a musical snob. Just sayin'. BTW, I'm not a big Flea fan, but I don't think he'll ever have to pitch for session work.
Flea played bass on the first Mars Volta album, De-loused in the Comatorium. Great playing and tone and some nice flurries.
25. Depends on how you define bad and whether you mean prefer from a an education or entertainment point of view. Watching a really bad originals band, especially if they've got a bit of attitude about them, can be a hugely amusing experience. Seeing a band band that are just poor musicians is actually a bit upsetting - I often feel quite bad for them, especially if there are a couple of talented individuals in the band clearly feeling let down by their bandmates.
