I am a recent convert to guitar. Bass is cr*p really. I wanted a Korg Pandora to go with said guitar and after much searching for a PX3 found a PX4D on soundslive at £99. I ordered said item and it arrived yesterday. However, on opening the box I discovered the item had been sent to Korg for repair and returned fixed to the customer. I duly called Soundslive and was immediately offered a full apology and the choice of a full refund or £20 discount. I accepted the latter. No fuss, no unpleasantness, no hassles. More retailers like this please.

I use the Fender superbass 8250s on all of my Fenders. They're designed for through body stringing. They are very good strings. Musical, nice tone and, well, good strings are good strings. Did I mention that I thought they were quite good? Funnily enough, I went through a a few different makes, most notably Warwick EMPs, but was drawn to the Fenders because of the 110 E and the fact that they're very reasonably priced from StringsDirect.

The Fender site will tell you about all of the 'innovations' on the MIA deluxe in 2008. I own a couple of Deluxe Fenders and I love them. The noise is cause for concern though. The shop might have a 'noisy' supply or other equipment increasing interference, but it shouldn't be that noisy. What you've described implies a fault with the preamp. On the subject of the preamp, it's the weakest part of the bass. I replaced the preamps in mine with Audere ones. That model bass isn't exactly exclusive. There are a few for sale on this forum that will be cheaper, better set up and well looked after. Unless you have your heart set on an ash body, I'd suggest you give the for sale section a once over. If you can find a bass that has already had the preamp upgraded, then even better.

Have you ever thought something was a good idea....

I published a book last year. There's nothing better than the feeling you get when the jiffy bag containing your complimentary copies drops through the letter box. Well, there is a better feeling, namely when your first royalty cheque drops through the letter box, but it's something of a niche subject, so royalties aren't great. -
It's very attractive, but I can't help but feel it's lost some of the quirkiness that made Vigiers so appealing. Glad to see the top strap button has been moved to a more logical place. Saves you drilling another hole in a perfectly nice instrument.

I love Kings X. I named my daughter after one of their albums (partly).

IMO, If you're serious about music then you need to be independent and that extends to transportation. there's no point in having the most immense rig in the world if you're dependant on mates or parents to lug it around for you. There's also no point in blowing money on a rig that's totally inappropriate for the kind of venue you play.

The one on Amazon looks to be a PX4A - acoustic version. The Pandora is a great piece of kit. I have a PX3B and use it every day. It's travelled to Europe to Canada with me and is great fr practice, learning songs, metronome training. The ability to practice anywhere and everywhere without annoying people - other than the type writer sound of unamplified bass - has been a huge benefit.

Part of the reason ebay killed off the 2nd hand market is that people are very short-sighted. Someone will wince at the prospect of putting an instrument in a shop on a commission sale, despite the fact that people are able to try it out, get a run down on the guitar and owner because they think it's cheaper to flog it on ebay. Well, it might be cheaper to list it on ebay, but wait until you see the final value fees. That said, I would be wary of the 2nd hand route. A shop near to me used to have a great mixture of interesting new and used. The owner then decided he couldn't be doing with the hassle of having to commit to guaranteed quantities with the larger makes and switched to second hand. Over the course of 6 months, his stock gradually dwindled down to nothing but total dross and no one bothered going in any more. The local shops to me that are thriving have tapped into the schools market - sheet music, tuition and instrument rentals. Much as it pains me to resort to class stereotypes, you do get a better class of customer. Then again, Kingston Upon Thames, Esher, etc.. are unashamedly middle class areas.

A bit of a mixture Deathstars, Koorpiklaani, Atreyu (crap but enjoyable), Atrocity, Septic Flesh, Kamelot and Iced Earth. www.emusic.com rules
Another vote for the Korg Pitchblack. I got the Pitchblack+ 4 weeks ago and I am very impressed with it, great piece of kit. I tried the guitarists TU-2 pedal before I got the Korg, and I did not think that it was particularly good with the bass. I also find the built in tuner on my Line6 Bass Pod XT Live very good and precise. I am also very fond of my TU-12 which I got second hand in 1985, and is still working fine, but no good with a low B.
I have owned both a POD XT and POD XT live and the tuner wouldn't handle anything below low B.

I own a PX3D which, after my bass of course, if the best piece of kit I've ever purchased. I've had it for 10 years now and it's survived everything - clumsy owner, kids, pets... I really wsh I could get my hands on the guitar version for my new 6 string.

What was the gear outcome of 2008 for you?
bassbloke replied to JimBobTTD's topic in General Discussion
Very tame I'm afraid. Fender Highway 1 P bass that I bought specifically to trade for a Fender HM5 bass off Burpster. Decided I couldn't get on with the tone and narrow spacing so I flogged it on ebay and put the dosh towards towards a Fender MIA Deluxe P (4 string). -
If an item is genuinely mis-priced then they have to sell at that price or have the option of removing from sale. It wasn't an error as they were indeed selling a stingray v at £499. The issue here is that they claim to have had only the one bass in stock and for sale at that price. What's more, they took your money even though they had no chance of fulfilling all of the orders for that item. Doesn't sound quite so innocent now does it?
-
If Reverb only had the one stingray V for sale, the e-mail ad should have said so. They shouldn't have accepted your money. This is extremely unprofessional behaviour and, were it me, I'd grass the b*stards to my local trading standards who would have plenty of grounds to fine their arses for misrepresentation. The excuse that they can't sort the problwm until after christmas is absolute crap too. Their website states that their stores are open until 8pm throughout December and I assume that if you buy something, they'll debit your account same day or following morning, so they can refund your money just as quick.

I have a new laptop to replace my ageing Turion machine. However, new laptop doesn't have firewire. Would anyone be interested ina Phonic Firefly two channel interface for £50 or be interested in trading for a USB 2 interface. It's boxed with all manuals and I'll bung in a 4 pint o 6 pin cable.
Hmm interesting... What's the difference between Precision and Jazz anyone?
Quite a lot.

Surely we should also be asking Why buy Gibson (Epiphone) Why buy Warwick (Rockbass) Why buy ESP (Ltd) The answer is that the devil is in the detail, smoother fingerboard edges, binding, graphite reinforced necks, nicer woods, nicer pickups, better finishing of frets and neck varnish/lacquer.

Well, a year ago it would have been just under 3 grand. Exchange rates eh... Don't you love them?

The interface on a POD is USB 1.1 not USB 2.0, so there's no way on god's earth it'll handle duplex audio (i.e. recording and playback at the same time) even with the best quality low latency drivers. One workaround would be to use your onboard soundcard for playback and monitoring and invest in a simple mixer. Take the stereo audio output from your laptop and mono output from the POD into the mixer and monitor yourself through that. Should work.

Right that's it. I'm off to crack one out.
Can i load wav files/loops from my P.C. onto the jamman, anyone no? I know you can transfer from the jamman to the P.C. but what about vice versa.
Yes you can. The Jamman comes with a CompactFlash card and slot, so you could just bung the card into your PC and save WAVs onto it. The blurb used to say it supported 2GB, but flash sizes have shot up - you can get 8GB IIRC. Very handy.
