1.
Hi Pram, Why not drop the price to £990 or very nearest offer? Alternatively wire it as a passive, enjoy it and maybe wait until the market improves... IMHO unless you are really hard-pressed you can't go wrong if you hold on to it. I was sorely skint during the last recession and sold a number of lovely basses - not alone there I'd say - that would now be worth funny-money if I had held on to them (Early MMs, Warwicks...). ...Sure lots of us didn't have an arse in our trousers back then and in my case selling the basses only provided short-term relief from the grief!... ...we used to travel to gigs on a pit-bull pulled three-wheeled roller-skate and make our guitar strings from the intestines of recently deceased relatives, for f**ks sake!!!...) Good luck with the sale if this is what you decide to do, and enjoy what looks like a lovely bass if you keep it... :
Good advice. Alternatively, find a preamp that can be bypassed (J-Retro Deluxe?) and get the best of both worlds - decent onboard preamp and passive if desired. I'd never ever sell my US deluxe 5.
2. I think Soundslive is a good shop, but I've found that there's a big difference between openly displaying the item for a specific price online and having it in stock and being prepared to sell it to you for that price. I wanted to buy a Fender FMT HH tele from them after Christmas because there's was the best price. They didn;t have it in stock and couldn't order it in for that price.
3.
Tim, I feel you maybe missing my point. As I outlined. Be reasonable! Be amicable! Try to resolve things with due courtesy! However, there comes a point when none of the afore mentioned works. You have 2 choices. 1) Let them take the piss out of not only you, but someone else. Fact. I know this occurs as it did happen to someone else. Another band also got ripped off. 2) Try your best but in the end, you don't work for nothing. When I do charity work (£12,000 raised for local hospice with friends playing gigs, I do it BY CHOICE!) When I play as business, then I expect the same respect as I give in turning up on time, not getting pissed or making a show of one's self. Play to the best of my ability and provide a fair job for fair reward. In return, I go to work to earn money. When I play for free, it’s when I choose to do it! The good news is as again I pointed out, all this happened a long time ago and fortunately don't happen these days. You may ask the question though, I wonder why? The reason I added my view is I don't feel those lads should have been ripped off. I also feel that they deserve better. I am just saying there is another way of achieving justice within the law, without violence, without bad mouthing and done hopefully, very very rarely. I gave examples which happened about 8-10 years ago and from then not been necessary since. I make no apologies for sharing my experiences as I feel people can read this and make their own judgements. I know you don't agree with my points, so amicably and with courtesy I say no worries, let's agree to disagree . Good things to you my friend. No offence intended to you. ff
Actually, I think the point he is making is that you wouldn't want to be involved with a landlord who tries to shaft you. What would the manager of your local Tesco say if you walked in, picked up a pre-prepared sandwich and walked out of the shop saying you'd pay for it if it tasted nice.
4. Hello, I have a Fender Amercian Deluxe Precision purchased 2nd hand from Andertons last year. I have pictures in the thread belwo and can take more if needed. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=31425&hl= It's a lovely bass, but I'm too used to the sound and feel of my jazz to be happy with it. Is anyone interested in trading for a similar spec US deluxe jazz - i.e. 4 string fretted with maple neck or fretless? It's a 2003 bass and comes with case, straplocks and truss rod adjustment tool. For that reason, I'd only contemplate trading for a similar vintage bass as I like the noiseless pickups. £600 for a straight sale, which is a good price for a bass in excelletn condition. It has hardly noticeable scratches on the back and a tiny tiny chip underneath the top strap button. Both took a lot of time to find. I live in Chessington and work in London, so easily accesible from A3 and M25 and can meet in town.
5.
I grew out of heavy metal. I still like it if i need a boost, but really i find a lot of it childish especially comedians like death metal and grind core bands. They all go on about death and destruction and how everyone will pay, but these people are always the first to sh*t there kegs if anything really kicks off. The bass playing of these bands is boring to me. I find metal bassists boring compared to jazz funk and soul players.
I don't listen to music just because I like the bass playing. Anyway, a lot of funk and soul bass playing is incredibly contrived - the same old slap licks and same tired old fills

7. What's not to love about the stuff below Any band that can count Christopher Lee as a fan deserve to be worshipped Undoubtedly the greatest lyrics ever penned Oh yes.
8.
It is a great idea mate - I'll ask the question.....she'll be staying at mine though
So your missus is happy to watch then.
9. DV247 are very good. I bought my guitar from them. They wouldn;t price match but I was being cheeky asking for a discount based on an item that wasn't in stock elsewhere.
10.
"Bass is cr*p", don't you mean you're cr*p at bass? I'm kinda the opposite from you, converted to bass from guitar (converted from keys to guitar before that) but I still play whatever instrument I can as it's good fun to be able to play several. I've looked at Soundslive before & never heard any bad reports about them so I may give them a try for my next purchase. I've no idea what that is yet tho!
No, I'm absolutely wonderful at bass, so I decided that the larger guitar community should benefit from my greatness.
11.
Guitarist....!!!! We'll have none of that here... Be off with you at once!!!
I'll be honest, I took up guitar with the sole intention of learning a few sweep picking licks and Inkblot Maelstrom-esque Spanish Phrygian flurries jsut so that when one of our guitarists leaves his banjo lying about I can pick it up and annoy him. It also seems fair as everytime some virtuoso guitarist picks up my bass he feels inclined to treat me to an endless barrage of slapped machine-gun triplets.
12. I am a recent convert to guitar. Bass is cr*p really. I wanted a Korg Pandora to go with said guitar and after much searching for a PX3 found a PX4D on soundslive at £99. I ordered said item and it arrived yesterday. However, on opening the box I discovered the item had been sent to Korg for repair and returned fixed to the customer. I duly called Soundslive and was immediately offered a full apology and the choice of a full refund or £20 discount. I accepted the latter. No fuss, no unpleasantness, no hassles. More retailers like this please.
13. I use the Fender superbass 8250s on all of my Fenders. They're designed for through body stringing. They are very good strings. Musical, nice tone and, well, good strings are good strings. Did I mention that I thought they were quite good? Funnily enough, I went through a a few different makes, most notably Warwick EMPs, but was drawn to the Fenders because of the 110 E and the fact that they're very reasonably priced from StringsDirect.
14. The Fender site will tell you about all of the 'innovations' on the MIA deluxe in 2008. I own a couple of Deluxe Fenders and I love them. The noise is cause for concern though. The shop might have a 'noisy' supply or other equipment increasing interference, but it shouldn't be that noisy. What you've described implies a fault with the preamp. On the subject of the preamp, it's the weakest part of the bass. I replaced the preamps in mine with Audere ones. That model bass isn't exactly exclusive. There are a few for sale on this forum that will be cheaper, better set up and well looked after. Unless you have your heart set on an ash body, I'd suggest you give the for sale section a once over. If you can find a bass that has already had the preamp upgraded, then even better.
15. I published a book last year. There's nothing better than the feeling you get when the jiffy bag containing your complimentary copies drops through the letter box. Well, there is a better feeling, namely when your first royalty cheque drops through the letter box, but it's something of a niche subject, so royalties aren't great.
16. It's very attractive, but I can't help but feel it's lost some of the quirkiness that made Vigiers so appealing. Glad to see the top strap button has been moved to a more logical place. Saves you drilling another hole in a perfectly nice instrument.
17. I love Kings X. I named my daughter after one of their albums (partly).
18. IMO, If you're serious about music then you need to be independent and that extends to transportation. there's no point in having the most immense rig in the world if you're dependant on mates or parents to lug it around for you. There's also no point in blowing money on a rig that's totally inappropriate for the kind of venue you play.
19. The one on Amazon looks to be a PX4A - acoustic version. The Pandora is a great piece of kit. I have a PX3B and use it every day. It's travelled to Europe to Canada with me and is great fr practice, learning songs, metronome training. The ability to practice anywhere and everywhere without annoying people - other than the type writer sound of unamplified bass - has been a huge benefit.
20. Part of the reason ebay killed off the 2nd hand market is that people are very short-sighted. Someone will wince at the prospect of putting an instrument in a shop on a commission sale, despite the fact that people are able to try it out, get a run down on the guitar and owner because they think it's cheaper to flog it on ebay. Well, it might be cheaper to list it on ebay, but wait until you see the final value fees. That said, I would be wary of the 2nd hand route. A shop near to me used to have a great mixture of interesting new and used. The owner then decided he couldn't be doing with the hassle of having to commit to guaranteed quantities with the larger makes and switched to second hand. Over the course of 6 months, his stock gradually dwindled down to nothing but total dross and no one bothered going in any more. The local shops to me that are thriving have tapped into the schools market - sheet music, tuition and instrument rentals. Much as it pains me to resort to class stereotypes, you do get a better class of customer. Then again, Kingston Upon Thames, Esher, etc.. are unashamedly middle class areas.
21. A bit of a mixture Deathstars, Koorpiklaani, Atreyu (crap but enjoyable), Atrocity, Septic Flesh, Kamelot and Iced Earth. www.emusic.com rules
22.
Another vote for the Korg Pitchblack. I got the Pitchblack+ 4 weeks ago and I am very impressed with it, great piece of kit. I tried the guitarists TU-2 pedal before I got the Korg, and I did not think that it was particularly good with the bass. I also find the built in tuner on my Line6 Bass Pod XT Live very good and precise. I am also very fond of my TU-12 which I got second hand in 1985, and is still working fine, but no good with a low B.
I have owned both a POD XT and POD XT live and the tuner wouldn't handle anything below low B.
23. I own a PX3D which, after my bass of course, if the best piece of kit I've ever purchased. I've had it for 10 years now and it's survived everything - clumsy owner, kids, pets... I really wsh I could get my hands on the guitar version for my new 6 string.
24. I have an old racing bike that a mate left with me - you can have it as I already have two bikes that I use for day to day. Works OK - needs a bit of TLC - I reckon a local bike shop could give it a once over for very little. PM me if you want it.
25. Very tame I'm afraid. Fender Highway 1 P bass that I bought specifically to trade for a Fender HM5 bass off Burpster. Decided I couldn't get on with the tone and narrow spacing so I flogged it on ebay and put the dosh towards towards a Fender MIA Deluxe P (4 string).
