  1. If I had the skill to do just that little bit behind the bridge, I would spend the next two weeks admiring it before remembering I was building a bass for someone!! Lovely work as ever - really enjoying seeing this take shape
  2. exciting stuff - Love seeing how the detail starts to unfold as the build progresses. I've also had a quick look at the Herrick Pickups site - some very interesting stuff going on over there!!
  3. I keep forgetting this a build on a budget - nothing budget about the way it looks and I'm sure it will sound top drawer.
  4. I'm not surprised - very much like Blablas said, once the oil goes on it takes the wood to a different level. Much more depth and warmth in the colours of the wood. Its really nice. I've enjoyed watching this build progress.
  5. That looks really nice - Am I right in thinking there is no finish of any sort on the body??
  6. I've turned my back for 5 minutes and there's another build thread!! Needless to say I am following this enthusiastically!!!!
  7. Very nice too - I like the way the body has taken to being stained. Looks lovely!!
  8. You know, I look at these builds by the members on this forum and I'm really impressed. There is sooo much talent amongst you all. This looks amazing and can't wait to see the final outcome. Love the spalted top and using offcuts too!! I would love to have the skills to do this sort of thing but the less said there the better!!!
  9. Absolutely top notch build. Lovely looking instrument. Its new owner will be chuffed to bits to receive that!!
  10. Whichever combination you go for, the best bit is that you'll have to build another bass using the leftovers!!!
  11. Bought a Squier jazz neck off Dan - top guy to deal with, neck arrived yesterday really well packed and I'm really pleased with it. Can't fault him!
  12. I'm liking this. I have a soft spot for Washburns having started out on a force 4 of the era - it was the same body shape but just a P pickup, bolt on construction and a ply body as I recall. I painted it pink (it was the 80's and I was young and foolish) and it had the look and texture of a sugared almond when I was finished. I sold it on a few years later and the guy who bought it had a terrible time trying to get the pink paint off it! I expect far greater things from this refin!
  13. [attachment=134389:DSC00272.JPG] My meagre offering of white basses - MIM fretted and squier bitsa fretless.
  14. and its now with me!! Many thanks to Dan - a top bloke to deal with.
  15. mornin' do you have an approximate weight for the body please? many thanks
  16. +1 for the mighty Mite neck - I prefer mine to my MIM neck - its not quite as thin and I have big hands! I'm pretty sure Warmoth do necks with graphite rods in...
  17. yep - that link is working. Got to be a nice starter fretless for someone????? Have a bump!
  18. I would add that if the Harrier neck is a "last fret overhang" in the style of Warmoth's 21 fret necks, you may not have to reposition the bridge as the distance between nut and bridge would be the same when either neck is attached to the body. Of course if it isn't and the whole neck is longer than the Mighty Mite, you're going to have to reposition the bridge as recommended by the other BC'ers.
  19. I have used West Orange Studios in Preston a couple of times. www.westorange.co.uk Alan Gregson is the main man - he's a good guy and has lots of experience. I can't really tell you what he charges as we used to get "mates rates" as he knows the guitarist. Hope this helps!!!
