1. And another one from me. That is to say, it's the first one from me and it's another vote, for the avoidance of doubt.
2. For the sort of music that the OP wants to do, I'd be inclined to go to open mic nights rather than folk clubs. I've done both, around the Midlands, and the typical open mic night is rather more relaxed - in the folk clubs, everybody is absolutely silent while you play, won't even come back to their seats if they've gone to the toilet or bar until you've finished a song. I used to find that a little unsettling.
3. I use PVA. It doesn't need to be a super-strong bond, just has to hold the nut in position.
4.
Alright Now is one of those songs that lots of bands play and almost none of them do it properly (and by "properly" I dont necessarily mean a carbon copy but with the right chords and the right feel and dynamics).
And none of them know that it's actually All Right Now. Guitarist in one of my bands refused to do anything like Rio or Take on me, as he said he'd heard enough cheesy 80s bands when he was at university. But he wants them up and dancing, and there's a better chance of that with that sort of material than with "Basket Case", "Underdog", or "Last Nite" (all songs we do because he wants to).
5. My Sei Original 5 has an asymmetric neck and it feels very nice. None of my other basses do (4s, 5s, 6s, and a 7) and they almost all feel very nice (the ones that don't are waiting to be sold...).
6. I must confess to being accidentally one of those sort that are being held to contumely in this thread. I was at my first Basschat bass bash in Northampton a few years ago, and asked a young lady who she was with. Fortunately she held her temper and explained to me that she was a bassist. In my defence, I had gone there with my band's USP, Mrs Zero the singer, and was in an accompanying-female mental gear. Can'r remember who said female bassist was now, she was around at the same time as AM1, Shara 5-string and Zoe BillySheehan but wasn't any of them.
7.
Contrary to some opinions people are expressing by implication , using better quality power cables can in certain instances make tangible improvements to the overall sound quality on some audio equipment, including bass amps and cabs. Have the people who are scheptical about the effects of cables actually listed to an A/B test and heard the difference? I have, and can attest to the fact that in a lot of cases better cables can bring out a pretty dramatic improvement in overall sound .
Yebbut you're mentally deranged.
8.
You can't get a lead for £1.50!
A quick look on That Ebay found me a 2m mains to IEC lead for £1.85 free delivery. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400587074375 So a little above £1-50. However, I certainly wouldn't want you working in a buying department. Er, would you like to buy this £20,000 [s]kettle[/s] mains to IEC lead?
9.
When I buy something secondhand, I expect it to be delivered by Jennifer Anniston, naked, on a unicorn. I'm usually disappointed. She never brings a lead
She uses the lead for reins. Didn't you notice?
10.
This might help. 22 power cable shoot out ;-) http://www.head-fi.o...-cords-reviewed
Is audiophilia actually some sort of mental illness akin to paranoid schizophrenia? The only more deluded reviews of cables that I've read have been of HDMI cables (where the reviewers actually believe that a cable carrying a digital signal can affect the analogue interpretation of that signal).
11.
Unequivocably, an amp should come with a power cable. How could it be argued otherwise ? The power cable is part of the amp. It's the part that connects it to the mains.
Then it should also come with an instrument cable. The instrument cable is part of the amp. It's the part that connects it to the instrument. Oh, and a speaker lead if it's not a combo. The speaker cable is part of the amp, it's the part that connects it to the speaker.
12. I said no because I wouldn't expect someone to put a power lead in. If I'm selling, I include a power lead if I remember to but I regard that as a courtesy rather than an essential part of the transaction.
13. I still have memories of old curly leads that crackled whenever you moved. Or breathed, come to that. Wireless for me. For one thing, you can turn through 360 degrees without looking like you are some sort of S&M participant.
14. Just bought a TC Helicon vocal effect pedal from Graham. Kept me informed about the shipping situation (it was a couple of weeks between me buying it and him sending it as he was in France) and a further minor delay due to a family medical crisis (which I hope has had a good outcome). Would happily do business with him again. Thanks Graham.
15. Visited Steve in Stockport yesterday to view (and, as it turned out, buy) his ex-MB1 Status 1. Sorted out the visit easily via messages. When I got there, he was very friendly and helpful. The bass itself was as described, very lovely, and as of about 7:45 last night, mine. Thanks Steve.
16. Gigwaise, I think my favourite is "She sells sanctuary". Certainly not a complex bassline but with lots of energy if played a little faster than the original. I also enjoy Feeder's "Feeling a moment" for rather different reasons - I find it rather satisfying to play and there's room for some passion.
17. I think that one of my bands has not enough material, with about 28 songs (even though one of them is Comfortably Numb). The other band is rather better equipped with about 40, though I'd like to get that up to 50 for both bands.
18.
Oasis's dirty little secret: Most recorded Oasis baselines were laid down by Noel Gallagher no matter who plays them live. Obviously not I'm the same league as David Gilmour doing Pink Floyd's classic baselines, more like Steve Jones rerecording Matlock's lines for the Pistols...
Surely you mean Steve Jones recording Sid Vicious's lines? I thought Glen Matlock's bass lines were kept in.
19. I met him once, at a Northants Bass Bash. We were both playing diddly-diddly music, so that was a bit of a bond, and he gave me quite a bit of help on the SEO aspects of my band websites (and a few hints on appearance too).
20. I don't think the rest of the band wanted to hear me say "I've left my amp at home" - I opened my case to find not my amp, but Mrs Zero's headset, the consequence of picking up the wrong one of two very similar cases. And although I had a spare amp, I only had a jack-to-jack speaker lead and my cab is exclusively speakon. Still, one 75-minute round trip later and I was sorted...
21.
Interested to know what the etc are.
Preloved, for one.
22.
Don't get me started on what Overwater have done going into partnership with Tanglewood, I have played a few of them and quite frankly couldn't wait to put them back down.
I formed completely the opposite impression of them when I played a few that Chris May took to Moffat a couple of years ago. I was very impressed by what you got for the price.
23. I wrote a combined setlist and cribsheet for my club band - I knew most of the songs but not all and I didn't want to pollute my brain with the remainder. Then I copied the file to an Android tablet and viewed it in Firefox. Should work in Safari too. I also made it so the song order can be changed by dragging songs around. If anyone wants to download it and play with it for their own ends, it's now at http://tauzero.org.uk/misc/set_and_cribsheet_draggable.html with apologies for the songs (and some of the coding).

Zoom MS60-B
that is very useful to know. I was thinking of a ms60b to cover my 'always on' effects, but this would mean I could use it for a stomp too. ie have comp, amp sim eq and noise reduction always on, next slot as line selector and last slot as chorus. thanks for the info!
Forget the LineSel and just have the chorus as the effect showing in the window, which means you can switch it off and on with the footswitch.
25. Sadly went for a bit more than I bid - I've got one in black (in good nick) and I'd rather have one in walnut so I don't worry about the paint getting chipped. Silly really, as it's the backup bass, not the main one.
