  1. Unless the people in question are musicians whose work is on Spotify, and what they want is more money.
  2. Two tiers - tier 1 is bass gear, tier 2 is any other musical gear.
  3. I'm in, not sure how long I'll last though.
  4. My mains leads all have velcro ties and anyone can coil them. I'm the only one who gets to coil my XLR and j-j leads (also all with velcro ties). And on the odd occasion that I use a wall wart, I coil the cable round my hand and fasten it with a cable tie, NEVER EVER wrap the cable round the wall wart body.
  5. Flamencoesque technique of flicking the fingers across the string(s).
  6. I already own an Ashbory Mk 2, the original black model, of which there were only 90 made so they're pretty rare. Clive Cherry then made a run of ten Mk 2s with Brazilian mahogany bodies, bookmatched flame maple tops and headstock facing. I've always fancied one of these but with them being so rare, never expected to get one. For some reason, probably because I'd recently mentioned how almost none of my instruments were painted, I had a look on Ebay a few days ago and there it was! One cheeky offer later and it was mine - when it arrived it was missing the unobtanium bridge cover but it had been sitting in a shop waiting to be sold on commission and the cover had got left there, so it's on its way to join me.

  7. I think it might not be appreciated if I left a TE cab in every pub I play in.
  8. I've found I can still use my 5-string glasses with 4-string basses.
  9. Have you tried twiddling the volume knob when it goes quiet?
  10. It looks like Cartman with his arms up.
  11. I can't remember where it was that I heard the theory, but allegedly guitars are attractive because they mirror the female form, so near-parallel top and bottom like the Jones SM1 don't look like the traditionally attractive female, and presumably Flying Vs appeal to those who like teenage Olympic gymnasts.
  12. Never operate on the basis of a false premise.
  13. We're called Dirty Roses - I think we've been asked twice if we're a G'n'R tribute (no) and we've never been asked if we're a Stone Roses tribute (still no). A former band that I joined, The Lightning, had a Facebook page that the guitarist (not the most literate person alive) had titled "The Lightning\rock\blues band,,," (yes, that is what it said, including the punctuation). Mrs Zero and I took over the page and got shot of the blues reference (and the shit punctuation), and we got more gigs. I think we left the "rock" in but I'm not certain.
  14. Use a WHAT to tighten them? Get a spanner, you wretched neanderthal (that's Scott, not @TheGreek). If you're looking at the input jack, then you have problems distinguishing a bass from an amp. It's an OUTPUT jack. And while his description of doing intonation is OK for Fender type bridges, there are other types out there. It's not a bad guide to maintenance, I'm being a bit picky - except for the spanner. Use a bloody spanner, either a proper one or an adjustable adjusted to be a snug fit. And make sure all screwdrivers, spanners, sockets (the spannery sort) and hex keys are a good fit, not a sloppy one.
  15. My nephew (very musically talented) has just joined a band. As he's down in Cornwall I don't know if I'll ever see them, but I was talking to my sister-in-law about them and she said it was proving very valuable for the mental health of all the band members (I don't know if my nephew has any great need of help with his mental health but it won't hurt).
  16. True, but OTOH Mrs Zero and I didn't always agree (or always disagree) and the fact we were a couple was never cited as a reason for anyone leaving the band. And stop calling me ducks.
  17. There's a very simple way to check if the socket wiring is right if you have a multimeter. Plug a stereo jack plug into the socket (it can be a stereo plug on a lead as long as it's stereo both ends) and measure the voltage between the ring and the sleeve. If it's 9V or so (with a new battery), the wiring is right. If it's 0V, the wiring is wrong. I've just had a thought - if the battery negative has been soldered to the sleeve and the socket has a metal outer, and there's conductive lining on the control cavity (eg copper tape), the battery will be making a permanent connection with ground - the battery should connect to the ring and the ground to sleeve.
  18. For that matter, Fender is just a gateway to proper basses.
  19. I tried both USB-A and USB-C. It's supposed to do 5V/3A but doesn't seem to. https://www.amazon.co.uk/OKZU-10000mAh-Portable-Charging-External/dp/B0C9ZR51V8
  20. Depending on the bass, it will work or it won't. If it doesn't work, you have two courses of action: Swap the negative and ground leads on the bass output socket Get a short mono male jack to female jack lead and use that to connect between the dongle and the bass
  21. After seeing it mentioned somewhere on BC, I bought one of these: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005055355118.html What I would like to do is use a USB power bank to power this (OK so far) and use it to power a small pedalboard including an HX Stomp (less OK). So, experiment time. Using an Okzu C1017 10000mAh power bank, I tried supplying the HX Stomp using a 3 into 1 DC cable to parallel the two 300mA outlets and one 100mA output. Initially I used the USB-A outlet. The powerbank displayed 188 and nothing else happened. Then I tried the USB-C outlet with the same result. I then tried running it off a mains-USB-C adaptor and it worked, and indeed continued working after I unplugged first the 100mA outlet and then the second 300mA outlet. So the power supply itself works but the power bank is inadequate, which it shouldn't really be as it's supposed to be a 22.5W charger. It's not broken - it's happily charging my phone right now as a test. Does anybody happen to know of a reasonably inexpensive USB powerbank that might work for this application?
  22. One of the very few Ashbory MkIIs in maple finish in existence (there's only another 9 in the world). Currently incoming.
  23. And a very final (probably) purchase of 2024, currently incoming so report when it gets here.
  24. The TS4 series has a Sub Size switch which allows selection of HPF frequency.
