Just searching for 7660 on PedalPCB I found quite a few references, many mentioning the 7660SCPAZ. I've found the meanings of the suffix letters after the S - C is temperature range (0-70 deg C), PA is package (8-pin DIP), Z is Pb-free. So it's just the S that matters as long as it's an 8-pin DIP. Ah, just found this: "Use your digital multimeter to make sure you have a connection between pin 1 and pin 8 on your charge pump IC. If that is connected and you are hearing a whine you likely have bad chips and can fix your problem by replacing them with something from another source." Can't post a link to it (it's verboten, don't know whether by BC or PedalPCB) but if you search for 7660 it's a topic called "Problem IC Sunflower Fuzz". So maybe you have a duff 7660. I haven't really used mine so don't know if I have the same issue.

Just checked and pins 1 and 8 are connected so it should be running at 35kHz.

Also https://www.renesas.com/us/en/document/dst/icl7660s-icl7660a-datasheet - under Features, bullet point 4 - "Boost Pin (Pin 1) for Higher Switching Frequency" and the table on page 3 also includes that Mine's also a 7660S. Will stick the meter on it tomorrow and see what pin 1 is at.

TC7660S operates at 10kHz unless pin 1 is connected to +V in which case it operates at 45kHz. https://www.microchip.com/en-us/product/TC7660S
  5. Reidmar? I've never owned one but have played through one and it was very hi-fi.
  6. Has it been pushed down too hard so it's rubbing on the base?

Which uses a TC7660H, presumably to generate the dual rails. Has it got a TC7660 in it rather than a TC7660H? The H is high frequency (120kHz) versus 10kHz for the non-H version.
  8. I'd love to see a multiscale one.
  9. One guitarist uses head and cab, the other uses pedalboard amp feeding the PA.

I liked the coffee joke, I'd love a sticker please. No, I didn't do the subsonic filter - that's an option they provide.

A couple of kits assembled and working. HPF/LPF - https://schalltechnik04.de/en/instructions/vong-filterung - kits from https://www.musikding.de/VONG-Filterung-filter-kit 12dB/octave rolloff, variable frequency. Really must prettify this somewhat. At least the enclosure was pre-drilled so it doesn't look like the holes were made with a hammer and blunt chisel. Subsonic filter - https://guitar-electronics.eu/en_US/c/SUBSONIC-FILTER/84 24dB/octave rolloff below 27Hz (see the PCB for details).

  19. I remember all this from many years ago when a digital camera was put up at a ridiculously cheap price on Kodak's website. Of course lots of people tried to buy it, and eventually the retailer decided to let those people have it for the low price (including me). The establishment of a contract to sell requires the seller to offer the item (invitation to treat), the potential buyer to offer to buy, and the seller to accept the offer. Also, there is no obligation to sell at the price stated if it is patently wrong, so even a Fender is obviously worth more than £0. There's generally an "E&OE" knocking about somewhere - errors and omissions excepted. Aha. https://www.theguardian.com/money/2002/feb/02/jobsandmoney is the Kodak story.

  21. Audiences hear the record playing in their heads. If there isn't too much of a collision between that and reality, it's not a problem.
  22. I take a spare. I wouldn't try and influence anybody else to take a spare, nor would I expect anyone else to try to persuade me not to. The default spare is a Hohner B2AV, which is physically small and doesn't need a stand, although it's not invariably the one.
  23. Try "M6 star knob" on ebay. You want a 10mm length one. A cheap Chinese LED PAR can arrived today, which is why I can be so positive.
