1. I picked up a new one today locally. Octaver, serial number 451200, produced August 1984. Made in Japan.
2. We play this tune and we all enjoy playing it in the band. Seems to go down well and too. I think it is a dreadful song but what do I know. :-D
3. I recently purchased two bridges from Jimmy. Top guy. Recommended.
4. There was a thread a while ago about Elvis Costello on bass that soon turned into a show Elvis Presley on bass pics: HERE
5. I have no issues with the highs. I play a passive jazz bass and have been known to slap occasionally. I prefer the look of the silver cloth and I have added a roqsolid cover. My gear only gets transported by me nowadays. If I was throwing stuff into the back if a van regularly I would go with the metal grill.
6. I borrow a Bergantino 2x12" cab for a gig while I waited for my BF to turn up. I didnt like it. It was a bit too hi-fi for me. To be fair it was a gig so I didnt have time to try out much. I found it was very warm and lacking in the mids for me. The bottom end was very big though. Phnarr. I stuggled to hear myself clearly. It also had a tweeter which I really dont like. I cannot comment on the Aguilar or Vanderkley as I haven't had the pleasure as yet. At my last gig I put 350w into the 8ohm super compact and ended up with the master volume on about one o'clock on my Thunderfunk TB550. There was plenty more left in the amp and the cab.
Woah! These look super light and the 3gen with cloth front super cool! But do they also sound super cool? Reading the above it appears so. How do the bare faced range compare to likes of bergantino, Aguilar, vanderkley? Currently using a Berg AE112, was thinking of moving it on. (May have seen my thread in this section) What kind of wattage does the super compact put out? Playing smaller venues at moment with the odd larger gig and have always got by with the ae112 with PA support. Cheers in advance :-)
7. I have just used the Super compact for a gig and I can safely say I love this cab. It kind of reminded me of the old 4x10 punchiness I have been missing. It definitely has it all. As much as I hate to admit it I do not need another one. One cab is fine. (I still want another one and I am sure two cabs must be better) Our keyboard player was impressed with the sound and out geetardist said he thought it sounded great and had loads of bottom end. Ooer. I want more gigs now so I can use it as it supposed to be used.
8. Wire wool may leave traces of metal. I use green plastic kitchen scratchy pads. Works very well.
9. Sorry. I don't own a five string at the moment. It's on my GAS list though.
10. On the top of the combo are screw covers. The little black circles. Pop them off to reveal screw head.
11. Quick update: I have taken the super compact out of the house at last. Just one rehearsal so far but I am chuffed to bits. I have previously owned a Gen2 compact and midget so can comment on the difference between the Gen2 and Gen3. The difference is very noticeable indeed. The sound from the Gen3 super compact is complete I would say, highs, lows, mids, are all there and very nice indeed. I found the Gen2 compact and midget lacking when used on their own but complemented each other very well when used together. This new compact seems to do everything extremely well. Result. This new Gen3 super compact is what I wanted the Gen2 compact to be. For my needs it is the perfect cab. Oh,and its really really small and light.
12. Here is my matching headstock Jazz bass. It is a 2013 bravewood. The pickups are by Bare knuckle. I really do like it very much.
13. Bravewood stalker, lol It's not just me then.
14. Owen, it is a Bravewood J bass. It is less than 6 months old and the nicest bass I have owned. This one is a keeper.
15.
You have GAS for another cab because it looks totally cool:
You sir are indeed correct.
16.
I guarantee the cab will be fine at gig volume - I have two and have been told I'm too loud just using one Lovely set up you have btw
Thanks Merton. I am very confident that it will be fine on its own. Why do I have GAS to add another cab to it though!
17.
Nice cab - and nice Jazz bass too, love the battle-scars.
Thanks Lozz. Shh, don't tell anyone but the battle scars are fake.
18. I recently took delivery of a Gen3 Super Compact and here it is. I tried it out at home last night and so far everything seems perfect. Tone wise it is exactly as my previous BF cabs and volume wise there seems to be nothing to worry about. Previously I have gigged a Gen2 compact and know they can keep up in pub band situations so am really looking forward to taking this one out and making it work for its living. I will try to remember to update this thread as and when I have things to add.
19.
how do you know how do you know how do you know? (it means mine can't be that far off either, yay! )
/\ what he said.
