My OD requirements are being taken care of by another pedal these days so this poor guy has been languishing in his box for a while now and it's time to find him a new home. TC Electronic Mojomojo is officially a guitar OD but it plays very nicely with bass and I used it as my main live OD for a few years. Been very well looked after, kept in its box when not in use, no velcro on the bottom. £30 posted and it's yours.

Pack shuffle time. I'm selling my Harley Benton HB-50 semi-hollow bass. This is a prototype bass which was shown at Guitar Summit 2023 and then sold to me as a one-off by Thomann. I don't know why they're dragging their heels but at time of writing this ad it is still not available to buy yet. I was not satisfied with how it was supplied, so I made some reversible modifications - put springs on the pickup screws so the height can be adjusted sufficiently, rewired it with decent pots (stock ones were garbage), replaced the three way switch (which gave you single coil (north), both in parallel, single coil (south)) with a three way rotary wired parallel/single (south)/series, added a neat, custom ordered "poker chip" to show parallel (P), single coil (1), and series (S). Full details of what was done can be found here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/484563-belated-nbd-harley-benton-hb-50-prototype/ Basic specs: Semi-hollow bass, maple body, arched top, maple set neck, laurel fretboard. White body/neck/f-hole binding. 22 frets. 34" scale, 42mm nut. Artec MMC4 Vintage Alnico 5 humbucker Controls: Volume, Tone, 3 way switch for parallel/single coil/series. Weight is 4.3kg/9.5lbs. The bass will come with a very high quality Blake Bravo gigbag, a big bag capable of swallowing any long scale semi-hollow bass you could throw at it, loads of padding, moveable neck support. I'm looking for £250 posted. It's no secret that I bought it for £200, but considering the work that has been done to it to turn it into a much more useful instrument, and the premium gigbag which I think was like £150 new, coupled with the fact that this bass cannot (at time of writing this ad) be bought anywhere else, I think £250 posted is a reasonable price. Can lop some money off if you don't want the gig bag.

The next time someone asks you "why Thunderbird?" just show them this picture.

I'm shuffling my pack so here for sale is a Soloking MJ1 Classic in metallic black with matching headstock. It's an homage to the Fender Roscoe Beck signature bass. Basic specs: Alder body, roasted maple neck, rosewood fretboard. Spoke wheel truss rod adjustment at neck heel. 21 frets. 2 "double jazz" humbucking pickups. High mass bridge. 34" scale, 38mm nut, weight is 4.45kg/9.8lb Controls: Volume, Tone, 3 way pickup selector, series/single coil switch for each pickup This is a great bass for not much money, I have gigged it a couple of times and it has performed excellently. Currently strung with D'addario XL nickel rounds, dunno gauge, sorry. I am looking for £200 posted, it will come with a gig bag and a strap.

It would put me off - I don't like irreversible mods generally. I would only do this to a bass if I was pretty certain I was going to keep it.

Pleased to report a successful session with the Lekato WS-70. Paired straight away, worked great all session. No latency issues. Used it for a bit over 2 hours and it still is reporting 75% charge. Unfortunately it was raining, so had to stay indoors at the rehearsal room. I could only go a few metres away from the receiver, but I hid behind drums and people and it didn't upset the signal at all. The only negative thing to report is that it might be having a slight negative effect on sustain - long notes seemed to die quicker than I was expecting, but it's only a suspicion at this time.

Just arrived today - had a snafu and missed the postie yesterday. Got a band rehearsal tonight so I will report back later on.

Has this happened since you changed the strings to tapes? How's the relief on the neck?

A question suddenly springs to mind - bass bashes traditionally seem to happen on a Sunday. How was it for everyone this one being on a Saturday? To me, it doesn't really matter - due to all the travelling involved I'd take a long weekend off my work anyway. But just curious to those closer, was it good to have a buffer day before going back to work/regular routine? Was getting up early on the Saturday a chore? Were some people unable to attend due to gigging on the Sat night, or would gigging on the Saturday wipe you out for the Sunday anyway? I've got today off, so the mind wanders... over to you (or not, I don't care - did I mention I have the day off? )

Ach, if you can't find one in a shop near you then just order one online! Let us know what the string spacing is and if you don't like it - return it. Welcome to my world, where the nearest shop with anything bassy worth playing is 3 hours away. Costs more to go there and back (in terms of time and money) than it does to pay a courier to send a bass back. If I played 5 strings, I'd take one for the team, but alas, I'm a four banger only.

Well, I don't know if I'm the first to buy something as a result of something learned/discovered at the bash, but I've just snagged a Lekato WS-70 UHF wireless kit for £30 on eBay. @GreeneKing it's mainly your fault (for giving me a go of your Lekato kit) but there are other culprits who were wandering around wirelessly. Thank you, you gits!

Ahh, now see that's where you've been going wrong all this time

Well that's me back up the road in Aberdeen. First things first, thanks so much to @rwillett for organising this bash, I think it was a great success and I hope it carries on. Thanks also to Rob's family for helping behind the scenes, for feeding us pizza and delicious cakes/treats. Great to meet old friends and make some new ones. Highlights for me were reacquainting myself with my first ever bass (the Epiphone EB-3), giving a BackBeat a go, playing a bass that cost twice what my car cost me, and checking out Rob's 3D printed instruments. I took some pics, all of gear I think, I'll get 'em up shortly All the best to you, and here's to a very successful bash! Slàinte mhath!

Is a new mass-produced bass ever worth more than £1500

Ahh, but they have no word for "fluffy" (Blackadder Goes Forth, "Private Plane" - incase anyone doesn't get the reference) -
I've never been breathalysed in my life! Not that I'd have an issue with it - it's one or the other, drinking or driving. I mostly just guzzle pints of water when playing a gig! Last drink? Saturday night - had a few drams with a mate. Walked home.

Apples (if you'll pardon the pun) and oranges. "Better" is measurable in computers. In basses, it mostly isn't. -

I only offer my personal opinion - what anyone else does is up to them. But I have my red lines over which I do not cross for any bass, I don't give a monkeys who makes it or what mythical/mystical properties it may have. -
I'll be bringing the "neep" my pedalboard also. It's not super exciting - a tuner, a pitch shifter, a compressor and an EQ/OD/DI

Well, your resident grippy Scot is here to tell you that £1500 is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a bass - I've bought CARS for less FFS! The most I have ever spent on a bass is £1300, and I thought long and hard about it. FWIW it was my G&L wunkay and it was my post-lockdown treat to myself. Apart from that, I try to keep it below a grand. There's so much good stuff appearing around the £500 mark these days (and lower) that there's no need to spend more to get "quality" any more. The "high end" manufacturers know this, and they are running scared from the increase in quality at the "lower" end of the market. They can't make their stuff any better (because they were already "the best", right?) so all they can do to differentiate themselves is to jack the price up to create this artificial aura of superiority - tapping into this "I paid more so it must be better, right?" part of our psyche. It's all smoke and mirrors. The high end aren't innovating, they aren't improving, and eventually people will see through this transparent bluff. I already have, I think. -
Of course it matters - a guitarist and a drummer are wrong and need corrected, tag team style with a keys player. Get your head in the game!
