Done it a couple of times. One time they knew exactly what we were up to, got a nod from them on their way out
-
In my experience, a blended approach is best. I like to have a set list, and it's carefully thought out and curated. I'm not afraid to change it on the night depending on what happens though. If the police enter the venue for an inspection and we're away to start a new song, you can bet your life that we'll just jump straight into "Breaking the Law", for instance... Also, no-one wants to wait for a committee meeting to come to agreement on the next song. Seen that happen before with bands without set list, cringe.

Yarp, it be slow out there.

Contrasting Cover Versions by Same Artist
neepheid replied to MuddBass's topic in General Discussion
I guess I would include anything on Portishead's "Roseland NYC Live" versus their original recorded counterparts - the addition of the orchestra does take the recordings somewhere else, in the sense that I ended up preferring them to the original output. -
I have one of these bags. They're fine as far as carrying a bass is concerned, but I find that weird shaped front pocket annoying - won't take A4 paper.

I flit between three favourites - neck only, neck and middle (series), middle and bridge (series)

That'll keep your mind off your tuners for a while
-
That's nice. Unless the tuners being replaced broken, you'd be out. Can't it wait until next year? That's kinda the point of this whole exercise. They work for now?
-
Probably not. Me, I quite like the headstock of the D5 - with its cheeky nod to the '51 P headstock

Wireless system - Lekato, Boss or something else?

No, sorry, I don't own any active basses right now. I might be buying a Sire Z7 when they become available at the end of July... -

Yup. Which makes the improptu sniper-like accuracy on the Ab detune even more remarkable! -

I recently got myself a Lekato WS-70 UHF wireless kit after getting the bug (if you'll pardon the pun) at the NW bass bash in May. Used them at a few rehearsals and a couple of gigs and it's been great so far. Loved being able to do the walk out front and check the levels. Last outing I got a quick lesson in the perils of venturing out into the crowd - some guy wanted to put his arm around my shoulder and in his uncoordinated state he managed with bullseye accuracy hit my A tuner (yes, the A) and knock it out of tune. In a further showing of surprising accuracy, it was almost exactly a semitone out, so was able to finish the song by moving up a fret on the A string until the end. Live and learn! But on a technical level, no complaints - I got no dropouts, no interference, battery is more than long lasting enough to handle a full gig (probably could chance two before absolutely needing to charge). I did suspect there was a bit of a negative effect on note sustain, but now I'm not so sure. -

I think I've missed the word "cover" here. These are original songs, then done in a different way by the same artist. Sorry. -

Might be stretching the definition of "pop" here but Nirvana, "Polly" off Nevermind and "(New Wave) Polly" off Insesticide? -
"unexpected stool content" ... Yes, I am a ten year old trapped in a middle aged body.

Black and gold - the John Player Special treatment

Tee hee, couldn't leave it alone... Replaced the cream jack plate with a black one with gold screws... And added a bit of silliness... -
Standard Irn-Bru ad, I see no problem here...

Gibson did that to me twice when I tried to buy a Grabber 3 70s Tribute bass... The second one had faulty wiring - buzzed and hummed all over the place. I sent them both back and gave up. Thing gave me zero vibes of the OG G-3 anyway - it was like someone had described the G-3 down the phone. -
Maybe they've changed since you formed that opinion? The IV stuff onwards has only one filter instead of two (VLE, VPF), and it's been renamed "Old School" with clearer OFF and MAX labelling to make it clear that you are dialling in zero or some "Old School" rather than it being a centred EQ point. The mid scoop is a simple switch rather than a pot. I find the flat tone to be somewhat mid heavy (suits me fine - great for live). I run mine "flat" (is any amp truly flat?), with a bit of "Old School" and do any small shaping at the graphic EQ on my Monomyth at the pedalboard.

Internet hate is irrelevant - it is usually an amalgamation of the parochial viewpoints of a few malcontents who may well have had an individual bad experience, snowballed by a bunch of sycophants parroting what they've heard like a scary story round the campfire, because they want to belong to something or because they want to curry favour with whoever they heard it from. You'll notice it's mostly vague, people can't pinpoint a particular model or speak in depth about it, it's just generic. Most of the people who talk trash about something have probably never used the product in question, or did so many moons ago and are too bitter to give it another go. I pay it no attention. I let it wash past me as I make up my own mind. I've been very happy with things "people" have said are utter garbage. Maybe I do sometimes pay some attention though. If I listened to the internet hate, I'd have never owned a Gibson bass. I think I bought them because of the internet hate
