  1. As far as wearing t-shirts with stuff written on them, well why on earth not? If I wear a shirt with Joe Dart on, which by the way is merely a nod to their videos where they often subtitle shots with their names, and it draws a fellow Vulf follower into conversation with me then that's great. I get to chat with someone new with whom I have a shared interest.
  2. I disagree that your opinion is worthless but admire your modesty. You raise some interesting points. As I get older I hear more and more stuff come around and around again. If a modern band are clearly channeling the Jam, or the Specials or any other favourites from my era I invariably feel similar and see them as lame, inauthentic copies of the real thing. Of course people who were teenage mods in the sixties almost certainly said the same thing about the Jam and the Specials. I'm in the happy position with Vulfpeck where I love them, their songs, musicality, influences and above all their humour, but I also love the old school examples you shared above. I suspect this is because I had very little time for funk in the 70s so as a late convert I don't feel any special bond with the originals.
  3. For preference I go straight into a valve amp and use my fingers to vary my sound and dynamics. However I also can't resist effects pedals. I blow hot and cold though. At the moment I'm building up my pedal collection again and using up hours of valuable rehearsal time messing with them. I'm now up to 3 pedal boards but I bet in 6 months time I'll be fed up of all the extra faffing around and be back to a bass, a cable and an amp.
  4. Why do you think I have a point? It's a funny line, so I shared it.
  5. Yeah that isn't the point though, not on this thread.
  6. Are you keen on effects and pedalboards? “I don’t do tap-dancing.”
  7. Because it brings them joy. I'm only guessing of course.
  8. I bought a valve distortion pedal before discovering the presence of the tube in my Ashdown. So I shall have double the grind now!
  9. Because we enjoy sharing the things we love with others. Its a basic part of human life.
  10. Someone else has pointed this out to me farther up the thread. Explains why I was so blown away by how authentic a 'facsimile' it was. What still surprises me is there's no fuss made about the presence of the tube on the amp itself. These days manufacturers have tiny windows cut into the fascia so we can watch the little thing glow. Or at the very least a picture of a valve and the word tube somewhere prominently displayed. Makes me like Ashdown even more.
  11. @Bobby D I love the idea of lying them down and stacking them. Damn that would be so cool. I tip my hat to you sir, a man after my own heart.
  12. Be fascinated to try this. My dream of cycling, fully laden, to gigs gets ever closer
  13. Come on now, we've all had a few drinks, let's not spoil it for the bride and groom.
  14. I'm sure someone revived one of those bridges here recently...
  15. Thank you so much for sharing @Quatschmacher. I can't afford the pedal but your patches still put a smile on my face
  16. I met Neil in a layby in classic BC fashion where we talked basses and noodled through a battery powered amp. He bought a Westone from me and was a joy to deal with. Great comms, flexible and helpful as my erratic plans kept changing and the money was real. Recommended.
  17. Flats on that would sound so smooooooth...
  18. Totally a keeper. The moment I played it I was a fan. Balance, weight, lovely neck and such a round thumping P Bass tone. Really hot pickups, easily mistaken for an active bass. Just a quality instrument. I've never played a Fodera or a 4 grand boutique bass but I have played some pretty good Fenders and Maruszczyk instruments and the profile sits comfortably with them.
  19. It might be hard for people to get used to...
  20. Played a pretty empty football club last night. But those who were there enjoyed it. And we worked hard and got people dancing which I regard as 'the job'. I'd spent the day playing with various configurations of pedals, planned out an outrageous two amp set up, just because. Then left the pedal board at home and of course being the PA guy I had no time to set up my gear anyway so went with the tried and tested Trace/Barefaced combination.
  21. That may have to be my new stage name
