  1. I had a new bass day this week. An immaculate china white P-Bass from the Bass Centre's collection. Sold to me by our own @nickcarey , replete with Detroit Flats , it has also been upgraded with new knobs and bridge. I've hankered after one the BC precisions ever since I got my hands on my Bruce Thomas Profile and this did not disappoint. Finely balanced, clean punchy sound, lovely neck and the nicest tort guard I've ever seen. More importantly I've never owned a white bass before and was stunned how pretty it is. At the same time this arrived my Ampeg returned from having its valve job completed by @basstone who I happily recommend to any other Somerset Basschatters. Well today I had the house to myself. Set up and gave both amp and bass a good go. I have no idea what it is about the SVT but somehow it contrives to fill the air with bass without ever being too loud. I played along to music on a bluetooth speaker and never had it at high volume. I could easily follow the track and yet was enveloped in beautiful warm bass. I think the white looks rather good against the black stack too.

    Whining

I hear you. Though I tried multiple combinations I suspect you are 100% on the money. Thinking just how many possible configurations there are I probably only scratched the surface!

    Whining

Yes I have given its own psu. All of them over 500. It's a head scratcher

    Whining

I don't have a zoom psu. I have tried it with several different types. Some quality brands others no name. All produce the noise. Its weird. Doesn't create a problem on my main board
  5. Thanks Al but I've tried with 1 spot, with different no name, and with Diago psu already!

    Whining

I have an interesting problem. We're all familiar with the high mosquito whine digital pedals can produce when sharing a daisy chained power supply. Usually a simple fix - give it its own psu. I set up a small board to separate my 'always on' from the main board. Line 6 G75, MS-60B, Sweet Baby, Digitech Ricochet (not actually always on, just used as a pitch shift on one tune). I got the noise which I traced to the MS-60B. Here's the thing. Nothing fixed it. Power Bank USB, USB 3 pin plug, USB socket in the 4 gang, 9V PSU - still the noise. In the end I resorted to batteries and it works. So I have a solution but don't understand why none of the other less faffy things didn't work. Any ideas?
  7. It's like the Herefordshire version of Breaking Bad
  8. @nickcarey @Leonard Smalls @lurksalot @Teebs stand up and take a bow! The Basschat Underground Railway rides again. A beautiful operation expertly carried out.
  9. Bought a lovely white bass from Nick He was kind enough to wait for full payment and hold the bass until some convoluted Basschat courier arrangements came together. A fine Basschatter to trade with, excellent communication throughout, delighted to recommend him to the community
  10. Well this is the place to come if you want to feel inadequate. The only ace in my chequered employment history is steeplejack - and two other people already had that on page one! I have singularly failed to cope with the politics in every large organisation I've worked for. I've similarly failed to cope with the paperwork side of self employment. I have no job beyond the gigs I do and a couple of shifts a month as a roadie for a drummer who is registered blind. I have no retirement plan and failed to navigate the (deliberately I suspect) over complicated obstacle course at the job centre and after six weeks was refused benefits. I am extraordinarily fortunate to have the charity of family and friends otherwise I'd be on the streets. One day I hope to get a gig pays enough to be independent but physical and mental health issues dog my every step.
  11. +1 for the Elites. Mine arrived with them on and it is gorgeous bass. I'm a bit fussy about balance and there's no dive on mine. Its not featherlight but a long way from heavy. Wonder if this is a new batch. 🤔
  12. My gig yesterday same as today. Selling a function band at a wedding fair. I'm not in the band but as a regular dep it doesn't hurt to remind them what a great guy I am.
  13. If he's a great player and you get on together, let it lie until he's got his feet under the table. It might come up more naturally in conversation. When has any audience ever said 'great band, shame about the artwork on the guitar'?
  14. Thanks folks. If and when I dig myself out from under learning dep sets I'll spend some time reflecting on all this invaluable advice and rework a few transcriptions.
  15. Oh I say! Splendid.
  16. Yep, I love the pre shape when I'm on my own. With a band it needs a bit of help
  17. Yes! There's only one on this amp. It may look as if I counter it with the eq but trust me it sounds beautiful.
  18. Absolutely! I only worked it out for a dep gig so it's not 100 %, for instance I have written it for a four string with normal tuning. So no low D. I'm working this weekend but I'll get it to you when I'm back
  19. God I love that Trace sound. Tonight's rig...
  20. duplicate post
  21. Yes I'm learning to use Musescore, frequently stopping to find and follow tutorials. I'd like to arrange things more neatly, and when I work out how, I will. And thank you.
