1. You sure you guys aren't more reps for Shuker? Ed Straker's caption: "You guys the new Shuker reps? I can tell by the straps you use, dead giveaway!"
2. You sure you guys aren't reps for Shuker? Ed Straker's caption for photo: "Hey guys looks like another Shuker under here!"
3.
Great news about Paul...all the best for the future of Wal. BB
Paul's a top quality craftsman; I thought that WAL was sold to Headline and Gavin Mortimer the distributor that handles PRS?? Anyone know any different or did that deal fall through after the announcements were made?
4.
I recently acquired one of these: to replace my Korg DTR-2 rackmount beast. Simple, quick, accurate. I am impressed! Anyone else tried this approach? Alex
As with any of these type of tuners they can only give you an average reading, they still don't beat the accuracy of any of the Peterson tuners. Great compact size though so if Peterson could do something like that but then having said that its the size of the display that governs the detail for accurate tuning display! I've got their new StroboFlip and its great with a stand attachment and clip on tuning sensor bundled in the kit. Strobomundo!! Anyhow, enjoy your new tuner!
5.
Just read a review of the Manchester gig. Not positive at all. It's a pity as Mr Z is a real talent however Mr Ronson was described as swearing too much and looking like a public schoolboy trying to be all chav. There were only a couple of vocalists so he couldn't really recreate the Version album. Bit disappointing as I do like the album. Anyway that same night Rush were in town and... nuff said!
Let's hope he can pull his socks up!
6.
If you want your organic signal being broken down into lots of little 0s and 1s before being rebuilt into an approximation of your original signal, go for one of the boss multieffects. If you want your signal to be your signal, not what a computer thinks is your signal, go all analog stompboxes.
Yep, that's good balanced advice!
7. Sounds like you're really chuffed with such a nice rig so enjoy! Never worry about what is 'in' and 'out', it's enjoying making noise that counts! The Trace will give you a certain sound but lots of versatility and you've got everything you need all together but watch that back! CoooooooL!!!
8. Thanks, guys but that's the other end of the country so I'll have to wait till another time.
9. Hey you guys aren't sales reps for Shuker? Ding!
10. Don't touch it with the proverbial barge pole! "Danger Will Robinson! Danger!" as a trustworthy robot once cried.
11. Sounds like a Status made for Neo!
12. Step back, think, consider, weigh it all up, question everything...except when it's dinner time. There's always a angle.
13. Talking of slap, I just received from Amazon Level 42 'Live at Wembley' on DVD, way to go Mark! Seriously, I dream to be able to play like the meister of slap. The fact I was also a drummer first might help me on my way! Back to the DVD - great show, great tight band, they really were superb live - great, great, great Mark King!!
14. Go Stuart, go! Anyone know when he's next on an outing??
15. They are that good and the points that Bassbod makes are spot on!
16. Man, sounds superb but you really should check out what Modulus can offer as they make superb 6-strings and then there's their excellent carbon fibre neck and that wick sustain and spot on intonation! Try S.M.A.R.T they're always very helpful.
17. I contacted the Turner distributor S.M.A.R.T. Distribution recently and they actually had a new Renaissance Stage Studio 5-string fretless in stock. If you contact the Turner workshop direct they'll always ask you to contact S.M.A.R.T. who explained that it is more cost efective to buy from them anyhow as if you buy direct from Rick's company they will always charge the list price. When you add carriage, duty and VAT it works out more than the S.M.A.R.T. price because they absorb those costs to make the final price more attractive to UK buyers. I was tempted but it will have to wait!
18. I remember when they were reviewed in Bass Player, drool worthy or what, seriously a very nice instrument and don't let go of it! Thanks for some nice pics too!
19. Hey, guys Martin Sims at the SimS Custom Shop can make any pickguard you desire for any bass or guitar in-house and it's in Kent, England so no import frustrations or exchange rates to worry about! see: "http://www.simscustom.com/html/scratchplate_files/scratchplates.html They are the biz!!
20.
My last six was a Modulus Quantum which was just awesome but even pre-owned it will cost! Nice dream though....
21.
Ordered myself a pack of 10 from the bay. Thanks for the advice.
If you are near an IKEA they are now stocking a great new package consisting of a compact Class 2 battery Charger for both Ni-MH and Ni-Cd batteries, 4x Ni-MH AA size batteries and 2x Ni-MH AAA size batteries all for £14.99!! Don't forget they also do great prices on Alkaline batteries of all sizes including AA and PP3 which are not made in China but in Germany by good old Varta! It might help, there again it might not but I thought I'd mention it!
22.
Hi synaesthesia Thanks for your advice above. As I think you've implied, sometimes the harsh facts, unpleasant as they may be, are worth pointing out. Just to make clear, I have dealt with the first buyer on a number of occasions and, the way I see it, had I not taken responsibility for this I would have dropped him in it badly. I would also guess that logically had this happened, he would then have sought reparation from me anyway. Also, with one exception, every deal I've done through Bassworld or Basschat has been a very pleasant and affirming experience, that is, I have not been ripped off, overcharged, p*ssed about or similar by anyone, and have met some bloody good guys (when I say affirming I mean that BW/BC people have acted the way I'd hope they would act). There are a couple of bad'uns on here but they tend to stand out from the crowd in the same way one of those modified Precisions that German guy on ebay keeps trying to sell stand out from the real thing, so I keep clear of them. The general consensus above seems to be that I have little chance of compensation and as such I've learned a bloody good lesson, namely that I will never buy a bass again without playing it first, and I will probably even then have any such bass checked by a professional within days of the deal. The Flea bass in question is, despite the problems, still bloody awesome, so I'm not making any sort of grand charitable gesture here. I would certainly rather not spend the money on a bass that I wasn't really using but things could be a lot worse, if I spend a further few hundred I'm still gonna have a great bass, and you never know, I might get a Chilis covers gig Thanks for the suggestions above. I'm resigned to not getting any money back from the dealer, but if anyone has any good ideas re. expressing my feelings towards the guy, let me know Chris
Chris Why not let Ian at SMART know about this as he's been working with Modulus since 1998 and as this affects his UK market I'm sure he'd be interested in reporting such bad dealer behaviour direct to Modulus themselves? I've had the best service and pricing from SMART over the years and they really care about this sort of thing. Might be worthwhile...certainly won't do any harm.
23.
Price varies with spec, specifically pre-amp, bridge and finish. I think Waldo's is pretty close to the top end price-wise. Fluctuating dollar doesn't really devalue the bass though, it's awesome and - as I know from experience - it would take you over a year to get that bass in that spec to the UK new. Cheers Chris
Just curious, but how long has the process taken you from beginning to now to get the Flea you wanted? Does this work out cheaper than a new one?
24.
I've had a check on the smart-distribution site, it seems the price has changed now, sorry about that. It definatly WAS £2065 when they had the bass in thier online stock though. By my calculations it would be £1805 plus however much it costs to supply and fit a badass bridge, so it's still going to be the best part of two grand for it. Besides, I'm not trying to sell it for that much anyway, I was only pointing out that it's an expensive bass and thus don't want any silly offers for it! There's a very good reason for why I've taken the photos from the SMART website. That's becuase they're actually pictures MY bass, as I bought it from them!
Well, great photos!! Saves you the trouble of a shoot. BTW the £1805 includes the Badass II bridge. Shame you're going to lose such a great bass!
25.
RE: Procells Look in Ebay and you'll find Procells for roughly £1 @ depending on how many you buy. I've pretty much stopped using rechargeables when you can procells at these prices. Procells are 'industrial' versions of Duracells, i.e. much the same thing with a different dress.
Cool!! Even better, way to go!
