1. Ed Straker says: "Commander Foster and I think it's splendid that we have a new lady joining the forum. Welcome!"
 2.
Blimey, they were about £1,500 last time I looked, which was years ago to be fair, but I've seen dealers selling second hand ones for £1,100 without a case. I've just done a quick web search and the only one I could find for sale was a used one in blue at £1,095. Where did you see them for £1,250?
Colonel Foster known for his thoroughness simply checked the price on Modulus' UK distributors website: www.smart-distribution.co.uk It's listed on the official Modulus site as well as SHADO Control have just verified for me myself. SHADO procurement advise starting with the UK list price when looking to move a pre-owned instrument and then take off at least 30-40% depending on condition, etc. They also advise me that this is a 1997 model from the serial number on the back of the headstock.
 3.
Price dropped to £950. . . . .
Colonel Foster checked the UK prices on a new Modulus VJ4 and said that a new one would be £1250 including Modulus case and delivery. Looking at the spec SHADO Control thinks £950 is a bit close to a new instrument price for a twice owned instrument?
 4.
I prefered the blue flake to be honest. Now if they did one in a purple flake i'd be sorely tempted
"Lieutenant Ellis, that's a great idea from BigBassBob, wouldn't a purple flake Modulus Flea bass be fab with our hair..."
 5.
I must be a very sad man, as I really like it!
Lieutenant Ellis says: "When my new orange flake Flea bass arrives I'm going to have to change the colour of my lipstick to match!'
 6.
I like it! I was this close to buying a P bass in sunset orange.
SHADO Interceptor pilot says: 'That wacky orange flake finish is the one for me! Thumbs up!'
 7.
yum
The alien from the UFO says: 'It is a cosmic inspiration...we will return to claim another!'
 8.
It's ginger..
Ed Straker says: 'Here's Colonel Foster modeling the new outfit to go with that crazy orange flake Flea bass we rescued from the aliens...'
 9. Ed Straker says: 'SHADO Control report that Sky 1 shot down a UFO over the Pacific Ocean west of Los Angeles leaving the Anaheim area the location of the 2008 NAMM Show' SHADO Control: 'The SHADO Mobiles sent to the scene where it crash landed near San Francisco, discovered the latest version of the Modulus Flea bass amongst the wreckage, it being protected by its Modulus hard case. The aliens must have been attracted to its new orange flake finish; they must really 'dig' Flea!' "Issue a security alert to protect the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Flea could be their next kidnap target!' Ed Straker: 'Gee...that's would be a great new finish for my car!'
 10.
Can I ask where you got yours from please Andy? I already have a DTR2000 in my rack - then I got a Peterson VS-1 for set-ups (2nd hand on eBay from Roger Sadowsky of all people!) - but it's so good that I'm VERY tempted to replace the Korg with a Strobrack.
Caption: "We know you have the best equipment for the job at Moonbase so we've come to ask if we can borrow your Peterson StrobRacks for our band rehearsal at our base..."
 11.
That's what I hate about sites like this, you're nice and happy with your set up and sound etc, then someone goes and throws a spanner in the works and posts a link like that...only joking, that thread on channel strips is really interesting, thanks for posting it.
Ed Straker says: "An analysis of your equipment list confirms you appreciate high quality products. Another spanner, if I may, in the works - have you considered the preamps and power amps from probably one of the pre-eminent solid state bass amplification specialists in Germany, Glockenklang; if you are looking at Kern, Demeter et al then Glock products should really be on your short list."
 12. Caption: (Colonel Foster) "Just imagine a Modulus neck with that groovy KLD pattern in the carbon fiber, Basslines MM pickup, Aguilar OBP-1, there isn't a bass like it and it's custom built to your spec by Modulus. Coool!"
Caption: "Look at that cool KLD pattern with the carbon fiber layers, you won't find any other neck like it!"
 13.
No sense in buying a vintage Fender if you want to get away from earth hum and dodgy electrics. Try something more modern: a Stingray, Warwick, G&L L2000. Lots of people swear by the Lakland jazzes here - maybe try one of those.
Ed Straker says: "Check out the new prices on a new Modulus Flea, start at £1395. Colonel Foster says the finish and neck are out of this world..." Caption: (Colonel Foster) "Just imagine a Modulus neck with that groovy KLD pattern in the carbon fiber, Basslines MM pickup, Aguilar OBP-1, there isn't a bass like it and it's custom built to your spec by Modulus. Coool!"
 14.
MB1. The b series combos and many of the smaller speaker cabs are being made in china.Had a look round Sound Control the other day and there were very few that werent made in china. The SVT Classic range of speakers and valve heads are still being made in the states as far as i know.
Ed Straker says: "That's great intel so thanks. I'll send the boys out to go find some SVTs..." Later... Ed Straker: "From this print-out it looks like we've found some real American Ampegs!"
 15. I expect that as with Ashdown and others that there will be an initial 'teething' period as production is gradually shifted abroad, but after that I'd certainly have no reservations about buying a product that to me is no different.
Ed Straker says: "Colonel Foster and myself at SHADO thank everyone for the feedback...just was a bit surprised (though I suppose not entirely unexpected the way production in the MI industry is now structured) that the American 'flavour' of an Ampeg has now also gone but at the end of the day if the product is even better quality-wise and the product is same...well great! I suppose it's like Apple. 'Designed by Apple in California' but still Apple! Caption: "Thumbs up for Ampeg, then!"
 16. If someone can draw out beauty and expression from a piece of music then I think it's worth having. However, I can't help but think some peoples' connection with their instrument is blinding their judgment.
Ed Straker says: "Foster, the man is right, the bass guitar is a wonderfully creative instrument but never get too close to that marriage of wood, metal and plastic that it clouds your judgement or perspective about one of he greatest gifts we have on earth...music!"
 17.
I imagine that horse has already bolted: the end of the second quarter of 2007 was the final date, and that was 5 months ago.
Ed Straker says: "Launch interceptors immediately. Go find those remaining few US built Ampegs!!" Caption: 'There go the boys..."
 18.
Hmm... Early seventies, surely?
Ed Straker: " Explain to our friend lieutenant..." Lieutenant Ellis says: "UFO was filmed in 1969-70, and began broadcasting in September 1970 in England and September 1972 in America. The series ran for only a single season, for a total of 26 one-hour colour episodes."
 19.
Wha....? Is this some sort of Star Trek speak? Fraid you've lost me.
Ed Straker says: "It's part of late 60s early 70s British culture don't you know..." Caption: S.I.D. (Space Intruder Detector) "Alert...unidentified bass player unfamiliar with classic Gerry Anderson late 60s Sci-Fi culture" (Bit of fun really!!)
 20.
I don't really know why people bother posting threads like this, it's pointless, you just get the same stupid small minded people saying the same things. Like the thread the other week about ERB's, what was the point in that in the end ?. It's like I've said before, it's the punk rock ethos, they openly bragged about the fact that they couldn't play their instruments. People on this forum when presented with something outside of the realm of 4 strings and 'standard' playing, always start behaving the same way, they have to dismiss it as circus tricks, or something that has to be ridiculed, instead of just accepting it for what it is....ie. other players expressing their desire to make music the way that they choose, be that soloing, tapping, slapping etc, on whatever instrument they desire, with however many strings. It is like bassbloke says "I can't therefore I dismiss'.
Ed Straker says: "Colonel Foster and I were only saying the other day, let's just enjoy making...music and not get all so so so so serious. If you like the sound an individual or bass player in a group makes that's great and the wonderful thing about music be it from music from the time of the Crusades to Jean Michel Jarre (coool bass lines in Oxygene! We play it regularly on the way to Moonbase to see the girls) and everything in between (especially Led Zeppelin with Mr Jones)." Caption: Lieutenant Ellis - "Mr Alien do you like Stanley Clarke?"
 21. Ed Straker says: "Colonel Foster and a team of SHADO mobiles have just reported finding a bass guitar amplification system in a UFO wreckage. Amongst some obscure CDs by someone called Manring and Wooten, they discovered an Ampeg B100-R Bass Combo but it had 'Made in PRC' on the rating label!" "What's happened to good 'ol US Ampegs??"
 22.
Well, fact is, most people don't want to hear it! Personally I couldn't be happy taking part in a music that attracts such a tiny audience. I think it's also kind of an embarrassing and uncool music to be into, but that's just me..
Ed Straker says: "Colonel Foster has just reported in and says they've found a CD by Mick Manring and somebody called Wooten (label was charred) in the UFO wreckage! Trust the aliens to go for some obscure bass guitar music, must be some code in there...better get SHADO intelligence to check 'em out!" Photo caption: Alien to Foster: "When we get out of this, can you get me tickets to a Victor Wooten concert?" Foster to Alien: "Does he play cello?"
 23. Ed Straker says: "Bass amplification...it's about the music, the tone, the sound, isn't it, the best we can achieve (subject to whatever we can afford)??? Not about what's fashionable surely or the current flavour in the stores due to whatever marketing push is being orchestrated in the background and whatever colour is in ie yellow and black and vintage looking VU meters and silly knobs and faddish features??? Answers on a postcard to S.I.D. please. Caption: "Where's my 'Mid' control...?"
