9.
Hi Bass Apprentice. You're right. It's for someone who isn't afraid to think out of the box just a tad. I've had the usual fare Yamaha, Fender, Gibson so not going to criticise anyone staying safe.....but some people pay extraordinary money for ACG, Fodera, Alembic etc etc and John Deacon mostly used a standard Precision.£200 buy you what in basses these days? Many thanks for your help. J
Wish I was even in the same ballpark as Foders and Alembic
10. Had you ordered a bass from scratch then there are neck options but a stock bass is all ready done so that limits the options. On the particular bass you bought the neck was unusual in that is was fairly chunky as I pointed out at the time so not representative of the usual neck dimensions.
11. If anyone is interested this Fusion bag works very well for the Helix floor unit. Loads of additional pockets and has rucksack straps as well. https://www.fusion-bags.com/products/sa-workstation-controller I have the floor unit which I intend to take to shows to demo basses and guitars. I have used many multi-effects units over many years and this is by far the easiest to use. Fairly new to the modelling aspect of it but so easy to edit every thing it is proving pretty easy full stop. On the whole I still prefer the bass without the modelling but that could just be down to many years of recording via DI. Still found some excellent sounds using the modelling and have made up several banks with just cab/amp to demo the basses. Brilliant unit very pleased I got it first outing will be to the Holy Grail in Berlin.
12. Also has a bass boost on the push/pull on the active stack. Pull bright on the volume/tone when in active mode. Four options regarding bass boost frequency plus level selected internally. Yes it is a split coil and in this case with Alnico magnets rather than the ceramic I normally use.
13. Dave Wilson I think he is working out of Hexham at the moment. Quality work.
14. Thanks very much. Hopefully my customer will be reunited with his bass.
15. Fixed. Now with details on the bass. Much appreciated. Alan
16. Details on the bass below pinched last week in the West Yorkshire area. Any information leading to the recovery of the bass would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Alan http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/portfolio/0167-finn-4/ Not sure if this is the correct forum to put this in, if not please move to the correct one.
17. The BHS came all the way from Tasmanian.
18. The woods are: Top Blackhearts Sassafras body Swamp Ash. Neck is 3 piece Maple with a Rosewood board. 24 fret, 16" radius, Dual action trussed and carbon rods.
19. I have used several different brands over the years and have no complaints about the SIT strings they are an excellent mid range string. I have been using the shorts ale strings for several years and the full range for about a year now. I was going to continue using the SIT strings in the Standard Series and keep the Newtone Strings for the higher spec instruments but once they are used up I will be sticking with Neil. However I wanted a custom set to achieve what I wanted with regard to string construction and feel. I also wanted shorter scale strings again with specific requirements. I build quite a few shorts scale basses now so that was important.
20. Excellent strings. I have several custom sets made by Neil to suit three different scale lengths. Very happy with them and will be using them exclusively, also like to buy British when possible.
21. If you are interested in hand crafted guitars and basses this is one of the best shows to pay a visit to. I will be exhibiting a selection of basses and two new guitar models.
22. No that would be to sort a phase issue between the two pickups. You can however try it but I am fairly sure it will not be that that is causing any noise. Before you move anything make sure you take a picture of the wiring so it can be outback the way it was. Have you tried the bass anywhere else to see if the problem is following the bass or if it is in one particular place. Does it still happen through headphones.
23. There are two wires from each pickup going to the filter boards a green (cold) and red (hot). Take the wires out of the screw terminals. Take a piece of wire put it into the hot screw terminal and then into the cold screw terminal forming a loop. Do this for both pickup inputs.
