Sounds like a great idea. When and where is this happening?
1st november apparently http://basschat.co.uk/topic/237220-se-bass-bash-this-year/
I've got 64s and 84s in my 2 J basses (fretless and fretted, respectively). Was playing them yesterday and reminding myself again just how great these pickups are - particularly the 84s. I was always tempted to stick a Thumper in my P bass, but went with a 62 RI instead. Very tempted to pick one up when this pickup phoenix eventually rises...
will you be at south east bass bash at all? i have a J with hammers - would be interesting to compare the three
I have an old-style bean-shaped Bass Pod. Its inputs are: 6mm jack, midi in, pedal. So, this version doesn't. HTH
out of interest have you ever managed to get it to download patches via usb? all i can see online are threads of how it should work but nothing from line6 to explain why it doesnt i do concur - there is only a single 1/4" jack in - we tried the vocal through it the other night as our singist forgot to bring the little white helicon box - was errr ... interesting!

Auditioning Guitarists Tomorrow - Advice Required

video the entire proceedings - tell them it is for a reality tv idea and then post all the videos up on here and we can collectively vote for your new guitarist as an extra bonus im sure ped could possibly throw in a BC polo shirt for the lucky winner -
Cool. How about emailing them today to let them know to wait in their car until the previous guy has left? Is that reasonable?
i dont get this - they know it's an audition - they know you have to try and maintain some sort of schedule - hence they know there will be somebody in before/after/both and that they might bump into them during the changeover i wouldnt go so far as to encourage them to sit at the back of the room and point and laugh but how is it a problem if one of them bumps into another whilst loading/unloading ? will they be comparing gear in some sort of guitarists pissing contest? if their egos are that fragile then for me it would certainly be a big deciding factor and i t would take an exceptionally talented and gifted and original guitarist to trump that i think being pragmatic trumps any notion of stroking their egos IMHO edit - apologies for being a bit blunt -
17:15 - 1830 Drummer, Singer and I pack up and discuss, have a cup of tea, hopefully make decision Should one of us (not the drummer, obviously) take notes so we don't forget stuff? Someone suggested taking photos of them to aide discussion later but would that give the wrong impression, it's not a beauty contest? And moreover, I'd feel like a tw@t doing that. Are there any sort of standard audition questions that we should be asking to gauge their commitment level? Any help gladly taken on board.
1715-1830 decision !! i admire your optimisim but seriously if they are all that close and not one individual stands out significantly above the rest then you might consider holding a second audition day especially as this is for original material and you need to find somebody with original ideas to bring something extra to the mix that is unique and different to the three of you already hopefully there will be one of the four that stands out from the others and the decision sort of makes itself with just agreement from you all to confirm -
I really think you must go down to the sea again, but that's just me. No real need, I think. Just some rules and some experience built up by soldering stuff that does not matter. Rules should be everywhere on the web, or just ask here, but start with an iron that is hot enough, or you're gonna warm up components while you wait, and ruin them. Personally, as a beginner solderer, I like extra hands: weights with arms and crocodile thingies on them, so you can fixate components exactly where you want them, whilst also leading away some of the excess heat. No shame in using some form of emulsion that will transmit the heat from the iron to the object and from the object to the solder (in that order) whilst possibly cleaning the surface at the same time. Oh, and do use a soldering iron. Those 12" gas torches really are not ideal for electronics.
yes crocodile clips i like this i do know the it about youre not supposed to blow on the hot solder to cool it down and i alwys tin the ends of the wires first but somehow it always ends up an ungodly (but functional) mess
Your socks are dry then? Same with your vest?
i dont know, ive not been down to the beach
I bet those socks are still wet - for extra damping! *fetches coat*
well seemed ok last night - the amp that is, couldnt hear any discernible difference with he 15" running at full range compared to before with the crossover in place no need to resort to socks, damp or otherwise if anybody knows anywhere local to me where they do short courses on how to solder would be much appreciated - i wont be showing you any pics of the soldering on the two speaker wires on to the jack socket
-
its done - only one way to find out now i guess shameless plug for tonights gig
-
done this sort of thing years ago but as a guitarer and was jolly good fun invest in one of the small (but disproportionately expensive) whisper-silent fans for when the weather gets a bit close as you may not always have the luxury of playing a nice airconned theatre
Unfortunately I've only had opportunity to use the XL range. I'd like to try out one the AK cabs though
i think having had XL previously i prefer the XL to this VX but both are fine
-
ok here we go ... who dares wins the blue/white are from the pesky tweeter - red/black from the big boy correct me if im wrong but seem all i have to do now is remove the crossover board and the red/black wires from the crossover board and solder the red and black wire from the speaker directly to the jacks so is all in parallel net result on driver working at full range wired in parallel seems reasonable to me
If you made a clean cut then fine, but there is always the risk of the odd wire strand touching the other conductor and giving you a short circuit. I would never wan to leave uninsulated wires hanging around - far better to remove them, and +1 to removing the crossover completely. If you don't want to mess up the cab for future resale, perhaps you could fit a 2-way switch with the options of horn via crossover or direct to main speaker.
i cut as cleanly as i could but as you say with all that vibration going on who knows what is bouncing around inside the cabinet the wiring was very tight and no slack at all so if i take the plate off again i will have to do some modding and put some extra cable in from what ive found elsewhere and here i guess that if i disconnect the crossover and tweeter completely that will just leave the two terminals from the driver connected to the input jack and working at full range wish i'd kept hold of the XL115

Last gig the head started farting horribly but stopped when I changed to a passive bass so I assumed was most likely the battery in the bass failing Think I will reconnect and dampen the horn under the grill with some black foam and email Hartlke see what they recommend
-
I could always reconnect it and shove a sock in it
We had a guy approach us in a band I was a part of about 5 years ago before a gig. He made out he was official, and wanted to know exactly what we played, to see the level of which songs were being played most, so artists could benefit from royalties! I was extremely cautious - though he was from the Inland Revenue or something! I never did find out if he was genuine, or if it had ever happened elsewhere - I'd actually forgotten about it until now! i wonder if his name is really Rod? and if it is then isnt it a bit risque calling the company Hot Rod ?
