Don't think I've ever used a thumb rest, just the floating thumb thing. The strings are La Bella white nylons. Awesome strings.

I have the fretted 5 string, and it's a real grower. I liked it enough to buy it, obviously, but changed the strings--white nylons, E-C, and it's just got better and better and better. Goes from db to acoustic guitar convincingly, and a real solid presence. I've gigged it, with compliments on the sound, and it's really easy to play. Great neck, too. I'm a fan...

I would seriously recommend the C4 plus OTAB, with the Markbass preamp. I had the 5 string, and it was great, (but I really like the pickups anyway) £390 at Bass Direct.... -

I forgot to mention in the description one thing: I widened the B nut slot to accommodate a heavier gauge string, but inadvertently deepened it at the same time. You can see in the 5th pic, I have to use a small piece of spare string to lift the string, otherwise it rattles. Stupid, I know, but there we are. Doesn't affect the sound/playability in any way
