1. Well after 2 gigs with this monster, I just can't get on with this at all. It has to be me but, I love the neck... and that's about it!! :-/ The output is too hot and a pain changing basses and amp settings during gigs. It'll have to let her go
2. From 2006! http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f18/intonation-problem-solved-255834/
3.
I use MFD pups all the time and have never witnessed this myself.
Could I ask what the pickup clearance you have? Mine's nearly 1cm!
4. Well, I'm having real trouble with this bass I couldn't set the intonation properly - turns out the pickups are so powerful it pulls the strings towards them when its being set so everything was # !! I've had to set the pickups as low as they can go - set the intonation than bring the pickups back up until it starts affecting the tuning and lower them again slightly!! What a palaver! This can't be right can it??
5. Well the time has finally come to move on my beloved SVT3Pro I need a change and want this to go to a good home. She's in a 2U rack case which is included. Had it from new in 2006 from the Bass Centre in London - I've still got the box! It was retubed with a full set of matched JJ's and serviced in 2011, I've always looked after her. As usual with these, the fan's a bit noisy but, I've never found it a problem and the amp works perfectly. Looking at a pick up or halfway meet - courier would cost a bit but, could come to some arrangement. Here's a pic of her with a recently replaced 410HLF (not included in the sale, cos I've not got it anymore!). If you need anymore info or pics/serial no. etc just PM me. Cheers & thanks for looking.
6. It seems to be the the Parallel/Series switch (or 'Awesome Switch' as I now call it!) that makes the most difference?
7. Used it in anger last night - Jesus the output is hot!! It was clipping my wireless system! I'm at half volume on the bass and it's still peaking on my amp. How do you control this beast??
8. My latest acquisition. G&L L2000 Tribute. Cherry Sunburst/Rosewood. Thanks eBay!
9. This is very sad & as a huge KISS fan of 32+ years, particularly so. Neil Bogart started Casablanca Records in 1973 and the 1st two acts he signed were Donna Summer and KISS! Donna also sang back up vocals on the track 'Burning Up With Fever' on Gene Simmons 1978 solo album. RIP
10. Well, WOW! I didn't expect this to turn out how it did/is! I hope it's not strained any friendships on here as that's the last thing I wanted. One thing though, it's certainly opened my eyes on how divided everyone is on the +/- of DI's. I always thought the DI was the work of the Devil for bass players but, not anymore, there is genuine love for the thing I hated. Some great suggestions and technical insight of both options and suggestions for mic's too. I'm going to rethink my situation now and try a few things out with our upcoming gigs and actually discuss some of the ideas put forward here with the different sound guys. Maybe, just maybe, I'll turn a corner and embrace my nemesis! Thank you all for such a great debate - please carry on - it's helped me and I'm sure I'm not the only one that needed others' views on the matter. Cheers!
11. Cheers guys, a great discussion - thats what this place is all about. I can post EQ from my amp just that most sound guys insist on pre EQ. I can see why though. I think I'm getting cranky in my old age! I've spent a lot of wedge on my Barefaced S12 only to be using it as a glorified monitor on stage (I know technically it is a monitor of sorts!) and a PA colours your sound somewhat. I have had a DI/mic mix in studios before and to me that's a great sound but the practicalities at a gig limit what you can do. We play two sets so, I think I'm gonna try a little experiment at our next full gig. DI one set and mic the other and see if anyone notices! Thanks for the mic suggestions, I'll be trawling eBay for an AKG. Keep it low dudes!
12. (sic?) I'm sick of DI-ing! Every bleedin' gig - guitar cabs miked up - drums miked up - bass DI, grrrr I've got £££ worth of gear - why is there always an insistence of DI' ing the bass? Well, I've had enough - I'm never using Di again - if they've got an XLR cable, they can stick a mike on the end of it and enjoy the delights of a SVT3 and a BF S12 instead of a pre-EQ SVT3 lost in the mix somewhere. Now I've decided on this path of (self)righteousness - what do the BC fathful consider the best mic for the job?

Chris bought my Sansamp RBI. A pleasure to deal with and an easy, quick deal. Cheers Dude!
14. I've got a USA SVT3Pro around the same age and replaced the valves last year with matching JJ's. It just started to sound a bit 'wooly'. I was really surprised when I opened it up - none of the valves were the same make!! The change made it sound a little more 'Zingy' (if thats a word?) the bottom end tightened up and the grind was back! Give it a go mate! The fan in mine had started to get a bit noisy when firing it up - I dont want to hijack your thread but, anyone ever replaced this, and with what?
15. You're welcome Chris! have fun with the RBI!
16. I bought a Barefaced Super Twelve back in February and I've played it twice a week plus 2 gigs since then. I'm a nightmare with EQ and really give it some with the gain on my SVT3Pro too. Last week, hitting a 'G' on one of my D Tuned Spectors was really pushing the cones and one was cutting out slightly and seemed like it was peaking. I emailed Alex @ Barefaced when I got back from rehearsal and to my surprise he replied straight away - it was 11pm!! I explained what the problem was, he made a few suggestions on diagnostics and waited for the results. A few emails back and forth - the upshot being one of the woofers might have a manufacturing fault. This was Tuesday - got back from work today (Friday) and there was a replacement driver waiting for me! Alex emailed me some instructions and things to be wary of and an hour later, I've got a working S12 again! I've seen the 'inner sanctum' of the innards of an S12! I'm not used to customer service like this - it should be the norm in any business but, to me, what Alex did was above and beyond anything I expected and, well, a breath of fresh air. Thank you Alex and keep up the great work both in producing the finest bass cabs I've ever heard and also valuing me as a customer - I can't help thinking that if every company followed your lead, we wouldn't be in the sh!t we are now ecomony wise! I might be getting carried away a bit but, the service I received this week had really blown me away, and I can't sing the praises of Barefaced high enough! There is hope..........
17. My Sansamp RBI rack pre-amp is up for sale. I bought this last year to reach 'Tonal Nirvana' with my Ampeg SVT3 Pro and 410HLF and it did the trick running through the effects loop. I've now got a Barefaced Super Twelve and well, the Ampeg has come alive and I simply have no need for the RBI. It's done 5 gigs since I've had it - still in the box and is near mint (there's a couple of scratches on the underside from racking it - the face and top side are like new) I'm looking at around £240 ovno and I'll post it for that or, if local I'll deliver it or halfway meet. Thanks for looking.
