I teach the Rockschool Grades. Grade 4 is a good solid standard, and how easy you find it depends on where you are at the moment. If I were you I would ask the teacher to see a couple of the pieces before you get the book. That way you will have a feel for what is involved. Your teacher should be happy to let you see what is involved first. Tell them you are not sure about the level, and they should understand. With my students I often work through a grade book without entering them for an exam, particularly if they have never done it before. Then when they know what is involved and are ready, they can be entered for the next grade up. TI is important that the student is confident and happy, and not anxious as this can have a detrimental effect on learning. Maybe pop into a music shop and have a look at a few of the grade books?

both pete and shock above are of course right. I agree, but no one had yet made the point that I did. WE will never know who is to blame probably. I would have known there was something wrong if I had tested it, but then I know Stingrays. Pretty tricky if you dont maybe Dunno - I will keep my nose out. C

on another note, and obviously this is nowt to do with me, but it is worth saying (I think anyway) that wherever the "fault" (for want of a better word) lies, the bass was advertised for £700. I do not know the actual sale price, but this is a great price for a SR5. My tech could rewire the bass for £50 tops, so once done I would be totally satisfied that all is well, and have spent only £750. I bought a Tokai Loverock 2 guitar on ebay last year, and it had dodgy pots. I took it to my tech, spent £70, new pots, orange drops, totally rewired. Total expenditure still a great deal. I am not saying that things should not work when you buy them, but I tend to take all my stuff to my tech to fiddle with on purchase anyway. Like I say, nowt to do with me, but that would be where I would be coming from. If the parties concerned wish me to remove this I will, but I thought it might lend a different perspective. Chris

I have got some ER20s. Never really persevered with them, as I felt that they attenuated too much - all too quiet. But I am going to try them again, and see if I can get used to them.

nice one. I like it. Is it a 3 eq SR4? I am after on e of these amps, but it is interesting to note how close the sansamp can get to these tones - the BDDi into my Littlemark 2, on 50/50 blend is mighty close. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

read this at a gig on friday (singer bought it along). They loved it. Used the 800 digital chassis, with a front ported 4*10.

Can some one explain the whole Musicman, Stingray, Sterling thing

yeah, I use a BDDI, 50% blend. Treble can get a bit harsh, bu tdigging in with a pick for stuff lik eGreen Day, Killers etc, it can sound ace, really gritty. Fret buzz can help here too lol -

SR 2 bands do not have a centre detent, 3 bands do. I thought you would like it. Definiotely not the one trick ponies that sometimes they are described as. I LOVE my SR4. EVERY time it absolutely rocks. You can ALWAYS get a good tone. IMHO obviously lol -
Markbass head purchase - advice needed.
nottswarwick replied to absolutpepper's topic in Amps and Cabs
gues it depends on how loud the ban dis onstage, what PA support you use etc. And also whether you are using a 4 or 8 ohm cab loading. Personally I would go for the LM2. I have one. -

I like U2, and would put parts of their first few albums as my fave music ever. I remember listening to "War" over and over again when I was meant to be revising for my O levels. Fantastic music - there has been little in the way of anything as fresh and new to my ears since (well, The Smiths maybe, just after, now Andy Rourke....). Edge was what made me learn lead guitar, and I slavishly learnt all of "Blood Red Sky" note for note, again during O level revision time lol. I would love a job as Adam or Edge in a U2 tribute. I would happily take either slot. I have the "U2 by U2 book" - good read but too bloody heavy to read in bed. lol -
the mid scoop is OK if you use the blend pot to mix in the direct bass sounds. Iny my experience anyway. I wanna get an RBI

Stand Got mine here As you can see in the pic, I have got my MB Standard 104 HF on it. Angles at nearly 45 degrees. IT is really a massive revelation, I can hear myself perfectly, and so can the band. I had been using one of the markbass tilt back thingies, which is fine if you can get some distance from the cab, but as we all know this is not always possible. This stand is very sturdy, and hold the 30kg cab like a rock, whilst enabling it to be fired right at your ears whilst standing right next to it. Only doenside is that the rack needs to go elsewhere - hence in the pic it is on its side on the floor, but this is a v. small compromise. Thought I would share anyway. Chris

I find the BDDI indispensible. I use it with a 50/50 blend of effect/direct. That way it is not too scooped, and yet provides bite/warmth/grit etc. In fact, my settings are: SR4 - everything flat, vol at max, into BDDI with all knobs at 12 o'clock, into LM2 with all EQ at 12'oclock, with a touch of VFP and VLE filters. Sounds perfect. Might get a RBI just for convenience.

My LM2 is good, but so much better with by BDDI in front of it. SO it is now lightweight and MASSIVE sounding.
4000w of PA and a typical pub....?? pointless putting anything through it if your gtrs play loud with 100watts...IME.. If you have someone to mix the PA he will not be able to affect the FOH sound ...the gtrs will simply bypass it...and you'll be hearing the backline outfront whether you want to or not.. This will be true in a typical village hall size as well, IME No point having a band through the PA if some guys ignore the whole point of it...which is to allow a mix of the instruments. My 2p...
yup. with that size PA everyone should be going through it, with little amps on stage for monitoring only. Otherwise for pubs it is a waste of time hauling all that PA gear around.

Right, I think I have replied to everyone - if not I apologise - PM again. There are a couple of trades I am considering, but I am going to take my time to get this right. I was playing this bass this morning and was nearly tempted to pull it from sale, as it is sooo nice. However, not using fives at the mo. Just want ot see if there is any more interest - straight sale anyone? might also trade for a nice P bass too. Thanks Chris

just been using my sansamp into my studio monitors, and on headphones. They are awesome bit of kit. 50/50 blend, everything at 12 'o clock, brilliant. I always take my feed to the PA from this DI out, it always sounds great, so then onstage monitoring is either my own rig, or just the wedges.

Pretty interested to try one of these bad boys. Does anyone know who is stocking them n the East Midlands. Also, currently I use LM2 with a Sansamp BDDI for "grit". How do folk think the Terror BAss would compare to this. And has anyone used the 2*10 cab from orange. What's it all like - tell me tell me lol

Ebay Listing OK, had a couple of tempting trade options here, and think I have responded to everyone so far. I have had no cash offers though, so to keep my options open it is on Ebay now too - see link above. Of course, still open to offers from here as per the first post. Lets see where this takes things.
