I've done two in the past 8 or so years but my current one has an amazing Copeland. There is one youtube video of us with me dropping an absolute howler but I'll try and find it I can't paste the link in. I used to be able to. aha done it now, in a slightly later post
good job there matey, wouldn't call that a howler you just missed a note, Crayford social club is 2 mins from my house, give us a shout next time you play there.

 6.
My biggest cock-up was in a pub gig where the sound was so bad I couldn't hear a note I was playing. Unfortunately everyone else could, especially when I launched into 'Don't Stop Believing' in F whilst everyone else was playing it in E...
tis merely a semitone ol boy

 10. Take this off here Karl, what you trying to do to me, fantastic amp...!!!
 11. I've never had rusty strings and I've never wiped my strings down after a show
 12.
I'm sure I must have posted my opinions on kit sharing elsewhere on BC in the past. My philosophy in simple terms for a bass player in a band: YOU ARE A BASS PLAYER so: 1) Buy your own bass, strings, leads, pick (if used), strap, amplifier (head /cab or combo), pedals to suit with enough spares. 2) Arrive at gig with above kit. 3) Use above kit and nothing else. 4) Do NOT let anyone else near it or lend it out. 5) Do NOT ask to borrow anyone elses kit. 15 minutes change over time is plenty to get a bass rig off stage and assemble your own. I can get mine set up and running faster than our drummer can set up his brass bits, snare drum and seat. Someone once gave me the best answer to anyone who asks to borrow my gear: "Would you let me shag your partner?" The only exception to this rule is if you play a big festival and you are offered back line as part of the deal and it is contracted, but even then I have used my own - more than once. Buy your own gear before you spend your money on booze, fags, dope and what other luxuries you desperately need. Rant over, sorry peeps.
100% this
 13. I can't remember much about the tours that I done back in the early nineties for some reason!!
 14. Well worth a watch on BBC4, no doubt available on i player , presented by Mr Wakeman.
 15.
Sting played a few fretless basses during the police. 2 different precisions, Ibanez Musician, a very rare custom built Ibanez Musician with a natural body and maple board, Hamer Blitz 8 string fretless, There was also a fretted Ibanez Musician, not forgetting he used a Steinberger L2 in 1982 and the lovely White Spector NS2. There was also a 60s Precision (fretted) used in the Monserat documentary with Jools Holland and lastly the Van Zalinge upright, endearingly named 'Brian'
Blimey, anyone would think you're in a Police tribute band.
 16.
Its not about room acoustics or the actual PA system, just the attitudes of some engineers. Some are friendly and on it, like I said, I usually go over with a smile and introduce myself in a friendly manner but sometimes it dosent matter what you do, you cant avoid A holes. We played up in Gateshead a few years back and WERE TOLD TO GET THERE FOR 5PM TO LOAD IN AT ANY COST so we bust our balls to get there at 5pm, which we did, only to sit outside till 7PM until the sound engineer came to open up. To which I asked him where the effin hell he'd been.... to which he replied it was our own fault for getting there too early then no bass in the PA. I learned an important lesson that night.
i used to get that all the time, get to the venues for 5 pm and sit outside for 2 hrs bastards..
 17.
Hi all, I just wanted to share a piece of advice I got ages ago that is quite simple but no less useful. When playing live, imagine you're recording in the studio, tape rolling. When recording in the studio, imagine you're playing live. This has helped me play with more precision on gigs, and be less sloppy. It also helps with relaxing when recording and avoiding 'red-light' syndrome. I was rehearsing last night with an Elton John tribute that I'm about go out with and realised (again) that if you imagine what you're playing live is being recorded for some album, you really take a bit of extra care in playing with clarity and precision. Good advice!
is it the Elton tribute with Nigel on drums Mike?
 18.
That is very nice, the matched stock really sets it off.
did you get my pm Tom ol chap?
 19. Not quite what you're saying but i went to see Wilko Johnson some years back at the Standard in Walthamstow, 6 songs in and the bass was non existent , i went up to the sound engineer and very politely told him that there was a bass god playing, and he may as well unplug his bass, a few minutes later the walls were shaking, good job i was there Norman you owe me a pint.
