1. I have about a dozen sets of strings, and various other stuff all over the place, in cupboards bags etc, so here are a few sets of strings that I've bought and don't particularly like, and a couple of straps, I've started using comfort straps. The strings have been fitted to my Modulus which is a 35" scale beast, so they'll fit pretty much any other bass, but PM me and I'll let you know the length of the string. They have only been used for a very short length of time, I'm talking 30 minutes or so, so there's plenty of life left in them. TI Flats - 6 string set......too floppy - £15 including postage. La Bella deep talkin flats - 4 string set.....too tight - £10 including postage. Status flats - 6 string set - didn't like the sound - £10 including postage. Two Fender leather straps - as new condition - £15 each including postage.
2.
Read very similar things on that American bass forum! What's the deal with Behringer, isn't it that the equipment is designed in Germany and made in China?
Photocopied in Germany from what I've always understood.
3. No way I'd buy Chinese, the quality isn't as good, plus their human rights record stinks. I personally don't think that they should have been given the games in the first place.
4. Sure enough, Jaco mainly only played a 4 string, but then again he died 21 years ago, 6 string basses were pretty much unheard of then, 5's were only just starting to make an appearance. And anyway, the 4 string fretless was HIS instrument of choice, what has that to do with this rather pointless discussion, that has been dragged up for the trillionth time.
5. Nice looking bass Steve, I'm sure you'll get the neck sorted out. Where did you get it from ?.
6.
Yeah, sorry. I didnt think. DO NOT THINK AS A MUSICIAN, ONLY A BASSIST!
I like you......very well said. You've picked a bit of a dodgy site to ask for advice on something, that hasn't only got 4 strings, and doesn't have a Fender logo on the headstock. And you haven't exactly received a very pleasant welcome have you, you go to the trouble of registering on a bass site and you get some of the replies like you've had. There are a few more enlightened and friendly people on here though. Quote - I would start on a 4 string at first before going to a 6, 6xers have a huge neck. 6 string basses don't all have have huge necks, My modulus has 17mm string spacing and a lovely slim neck. As for strings try these people here, they're already been recommended to you once, and I'll 2nd that recommendation, they make great strings, buy the 7 string set and just use the ones that you want. http://www.overwater.co.uk/bass_guitar_strings.htm Also try Status, they do custom sets. http://www.status-graphite.com/status/cart...ames/frame1.htm You can tune a bass however you want, you're obviously used to the EADGBE tuning so stick with it, it's going to be your bass. Try this site for more open minded information. http://forum.extendedrangebassist.com/
7.
Hmm - me thinks it will be busy :-) I am there with car full of goodies Mark (Poptart)
Oh no, everyone leave your wallets at home, or they'll be a good deal lighter when you return home (lol).
8.
another point in favor of a 34" scale is string choice - it gets rather limited in medium scale. I suppose a clever designer could work around that by altering overall string length, but this has been a bit of a problem for me.
I agree totally about string choice, I have a problem getting strings for my Modulus, most strings fit OK, but some, D'addario and La bella for example I have to buy in extra long scale, there are strings that I'd like to try that won't fit. I don't have a problem playing my Modulus which is 35" and my Sei which is only 34", there's not that much difference, if you compare the necks side by side, the frets are pretty much in the same place until you get down around and past the 12th.
9. Yes. You can actually just plug your bass in to the back, as long as you used a jack to XLR cable. These are fantastic, I have one.
10. That's a stunning looking bass, congratulations.
11. Was there just one bass though, if you read the Milkowski book I'm sure he says that it got smashed up, isn't it like Triggers broom in 'only fools and horses'.
12.
I have read some absolute bullshit on forums but this thread takes the biscuit.
It's pathetic really isn't it. So called musicians slagging off a fellow musician, over an article written in a magazine that's designed purely to help those wanting to improve their playing. And the laugh of it all, is that Janek is a widely respected New york based English player, touring the world, playing for some of the top jazz and pop musicians such Mike Stern, what have the majority of the people who posted negative comments on here ever acheived ?. I asked someone last weekend if they ever checked basschat out out, they replied "don't you mean bitch chat".
13. This is only a week old, so you're getting something brand new and saving £50, I'll include shipping in the price.
14. This is a brand new Avalon U5 preamp/DI. I bought it last week to go with my Bergantino IP112, but it's not really what I'm after, and I've since bought something else, I'm inclined to keep it so I won't be too fussed if it doesn't sell. It's complete with all packaging, and I haven't registered it for the warranty. I'm after £350 which is what I paid for it, plus postage. Personal collection from Birmingham is welcome.
15. I think this is the most ridiculous thread that I've read, and this site is certainly no stranger to stupid threads. The exercises are for people who wish to improve their playing, if you don't wish to improve then turn the page and ignore them. There are bass players, and bass playing musicians, most of the people who posted on this thread appear to be the former, obviously with no desire other than to do what they do. As to 'technique destroys creativity', what a load of b***ocks, how can it ?. Unless the boundaries of your creativity are very close together, or you have a great natural musical ability, then improving your playing technique means that you'll be able to play what you want when you want, with less energy expended. Also learning something new opens up new avenues of playing, thus expanding your creativity. I find BGM to be quite a good magazine, not as good as Bassplayer, but then bassplayer has been going longer, but BGM is improving with every issue, I find the reviews to be very honest.
16.
What's the stringspacing and scale of this bass?
That'll be 17mm and 35" respectively. These are among the best instruments in the world, you'd never guess that the scale length is 35", and the string spacing is ergonomically excellent. I'll soon have two of these, I have a fretless Q6 on order, otherwise I'd be very tempted to buy this one, cos this is a great price.
17.
Please tell me where I can get a set of 'named' flatwounds for that price! The best price I can find is £20 for a set for Elites, Rotosound and Thomastik mid-high 20s. I don't much like Elites, having had a couple of sets which both went dead in a couple of days (and I don't have sweaty hands). It makes it expensive to try things out. Has anyone tried the Webstrings flats from www.webstrings.com ? I've got some roundwounds on a couple of my basses and they seem very good. The only thing that bothers me slightly is that a 45 roundwound seems like a pretty heavy gauge set - am I right in thinking that you need a slightly thinner gauge roundwound string to get the same tension, or doesn't it make much difference?
Status flatwound strings are £15 a set, they're excellent strings. Fender flats from Stringbusters are also £15 a set. Don't forget that flats last longer. I'd rather buy a set for a bit more money (£5), and be happy with them, than buy a cheap set that sound bad, and probably won't last anywhere near as long, it's a false economy, just my opinion.
18.
How does £40.00 sound? Ron
Go on then, PM me and we'll sort out details.
19. It's one of these http://www.bodyglove.com/products_category...ategory_id=3650 This is a hybrid between a gigbag and a hardcase, unused because I tend to either use the case that came with my Modulus, or a slimcase that I have. £45 ono including postage.
20.
Unfortunately I was too slow and it had sold! So it isn't me who is getting it. Steve
Still on the search for a preamp then Steve ?. There's this one here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EBS-MICRO-BASS-II-PR...7QQcmdZViewItem Not such a good price as the one that just sold. What did you think of the Summit TD100, Mark said you were going to try it.
21. It certainly is, I'm already going on the Todd Johnson one, I'm probably going on the Yves Carbonne one, and matt Garrison is a must as far as I'm concerned.
22. I'm sure that I read somewhere, that he had some sort of accident a few years ago and badly damaged his arm, he had to re-learn how to play from scratch.
