1. Am passing this onto the Technical Staff! Stay Tuned (EADG!) Nick
 2.
Must ... resist ... urge ... to quote Tap. It's OK; I'm a professional, I'll rise above it. Damn ... By the way, 65 basses: awesome. A true inspiration in my aim to merely get into double figures!
You know, I'm really influenced by like Mozart and Bach, so this is kind of like a `Mach' piece...! Bless ya! Nick
 3. A very tasty collective! Well done sir! Nick
 4.
Here is a couple of pics of my newly aquired Black Beauty prototype 23 (may 2003) i traded this bass with JD for a lovely S2 and a few quid his way. They are both cracking basses and i've enclosed a couple of picks of our get together, with our ensemble of equipment.
Wow! Some stunners there - that Pangborn especially!
 5.
The last thing I need is another bass but this is soooooooo cool !!!!! BB
Tell me about it! That is a fantastic example - again, reminds me of 1983/84 being a spotty teenager ogling the Yams at Chappells in central Milton Keynes (..shopping as it should be!). Been to the bank today - what was the name of that band who had the big hit - Money for Nothing??? Ah yes, Dire Straits!!!! Thats the state of my fiscal world! Waa!
 6.
My main bass is a Thumb and it's partly because it's as skinny as I am (luckily I love the sound). Proper-size basses (Precisions and Stingrays particularly) always looked way too big on me but the Thumb looks right. I'm 35 now and recently sold a Stingray fretless that still looked too big. I'm jealous of you and other big people! For the record I'm 6'2" and currently about 12 stone, which is the most I've ever weighed.
I'm not that tall funnily enough, (5' 11 and a half"!) but I've turned into *Chris Squire build-wise - just under 17 stone which according to my nursing team is obese in terms of BMI. I'm 38 but look much older due to baldness/greyness! * he was very skinny back in the 70's and now humungus!
 7.
sunglasses indoors?
Actually it was outside! The pub has a covered patio area - fantastic place - the Angel Inn at Yarwell, near Wansford, Peterborough. However, I do wear sunglasses indoors too!
 8.
Does that not hurt your wrist playing that high? Sometimes I try to keep the strap short but my wrist starts to kill if I play any more that about a half hour.
I've got massive thick wrists - too many years playing with my........bass! Seriously, I used to wear it much higher than that! Paul Denman who plays with Sade is a big influence on me! Its funny, as a skinny teenager, my basses looked so much bigger and nowadays, the StingRay looks like a Thumb bass in size! I'm only 17 (stone!). Bring back my youth!!! Nick
 9. Allo! Played a storming charity gig last weekend and one of the girlies took the following pics! And now with added Roland bass pedals! I recall many years ago that my StingRay seemed much bigger.....anyone else finding this to be the case! I think its called MAS (middle age spread)! Nick
 10.
IIRC didn't Steve Howe guest on Welcome to the Pleasure Dome? My addled memory seems to think I saw a credit on the album cover when my cousin loaned me a copy back when it came out. No doubt this would've come about because of Trevor Horn's connection to Yes around that time.
I think you are correct - Steve and Trevor were very good mates and I'm sure he might have used Steve on different projects! Going back to Drama, does anyone else love the way Squire's Taurus pedals sits underneath his bass sound, especially on the bits `Yes, Yes,' in Tempus Fugit??!
 11.
I really like Drama by yes, thought he and Geoff Downs did a cracking job.
One of my all-time fave albums! Horn plays fretless bass on `Run Through The Light'. In fact, it is said that without *Drama, 90125 may not have happened - the rest is history! Plus, whilst Yes were recording that album with Horn producing, one of Yes' roadcrew was sat watching `Frankie Goes To Hollywood' when they were playing on The Tube; Horn was very impressed and the rest is again history! Nick (Tempus Fugit and Does it Really Happen - the best tracks on there*!)
 12.
Yorkshire rocks !!! Dad's a Yorkshireman, been living here over 15 years now on and off. Can't knock it, Sheffield is a great place to be right now. Getting back into bass playing after a few years out of the loop.
Welcome on board! Just for information, my good friend and one of the UK's top players, Alan Jones now lives in Treeton, near Rotherham! He's played on more records than I've had hot dinners! all the best! Nick
 13. Hi Pictures of said instrument would be very nice! Cheers Nick
 14. Saw Steve yesterday and we had a very nice meeting - the tea and Viennese whirls were lovely! Thx again Steve! Nick (just how did that black StingRay end up in my car?!)
 15.
Well there has been mention (from Dawn) that there's to be an S2000 reissue towards the end of this year...
Hallo sire! hope u are well etc. I actually suggested to Rob many years ago that he should bring out a range of `vintage' Statii - this could be it!!! He's been busy with the current range but it will great to see some reissues! Nick
 16.
Think there is still that green 4 string at the gallery
Ah! Always fancied that one - very `minty' looking!
 17. The Gallery used to sell these - very interesting instruments! I think Tony Levin bought one back in '94...
 18.
Oooh luvvley!!!! Nice bit of graphite , there. BB
Fully agree! Had one with a lined fretless board - supa dupa! Bummp!
 19.
Hi Lee Welcome to the biggest bass-gear whorehouse in the UK!
...does this make me Cynthia Payne then???!!! Welcome Lee!
 20.
You would have a long trip as its pick-up only! Or u could have one them 30 euro Amsterdam to Liverpool flights on Google. you dont actually see many fretless JDs BB
Nice bass - I've got Rich's old one - being refurbished at John's as we speak!
 21. ..avez vous *anuzzer bumpe ! * another new term for you! All terms now copyright **Nicholas John Smith 2009. ** hate my proper nomenclature!
 22.
I remember seeing those in the 80's. There was a shop here in Whitley Bay called Backline and they were the only place that seemed to have them. Fretless was big at the time with Pino all over the place (no change there then) and I always thought the idea of the persussive plates was a great one. Has anyone had any experience of these - how well do they work?
They (the plates) worked very well - my bass only had a single magnetic p/up placed midway on the body so it sounded very much like a P bass - I think had it have had another p/up (bridge position) it would have been perfect!
 23.
Yeah I know The thing is, I'm going fully fretless in one of my bands and I've been rehearsing and practising with this bass a LOT. If it was just a couple of numbers, I think I'd be ok with the Kopo. But I think I need to be sensible and go for a Warwick. I know I will be 100% comfortable with the feel, sound, balance, everything. The Kopo is about 80% for me. I find the nut width a little too wide, the neck too shallow (it's like an Ibanez or a Sei). I can't really explain it easily, it's a fantastic bass and I can easily live with it. I just know what I need is a great workhorse bass, a Warwick is just that for me. I think I've had a change from being rather flamboyant and gone a bit sensible for the sake of staying in my comfort zone. Some of the songs I'm playing in this band are a challenge on fretless, so I need a old friend bass. Hope that makes sense!
Hi! I can see where you're at - all the best with the sale! Nick (have a bumpe! - I think thats French!)
 24. Hey big fella! Just to echo all thats been said - take it easy and I know you'll be back sooner than that, its a big big part of you - you know that from the depth of your heart mate! See you soon. Nick
 25. ? Thought you'd fallen back in love?
