1. If you're just playing along to the Youtube version be wary that sometimes uploaders used to adjust the pitch and tempo of at track slightly in order to avoid it being picked up on by the record labels (they had some algorithms to scour YouTube for copyrighted material).
2. I severed a nerve in my left index finger with a breadknife... I'd had a few beers and couldn't be bothered washing something up to chop the bread on, so just did it in my hand. Got to a particularly tough bit of bread and went it with a vengeance without thinking about it... never seen as much blood. My girlfriend warned me against it too, but I dismissed her concerns and told her it'd be fine. That'll teach me. Ended up having to get surgery on it and the full deal... had to cancel a fair few gigs for that one.

5. Played far more gigs than that last year and carted all the gear around... where's my award?!
6. There's really nothing like writing and performing original material. Covers are alright, but when you can get an audience up dancing to music you wrote, the level of satisfaction tripled (ime). Some people prefer playing covers and that's fine, each to their own and all that... but if you haven't tried originals yet I would urge you to give it a go. It can take you to a whole new level as a player; trying to keep your lines creative and refreshing gets you thinking outside the box more often, and eventually your own style will become more defined. It also sounds like you've found the perfect opportunity to dip your toes in the world of originals, provided you like their sound and music I'd be grabbing that opportunity by the balls (so to speak) if I were you... you might never get another one like it, where-as senior bands playing classic rock covers with unreliable line-ups aren'to exactly few and far between (no offence meant to anyone). If you think you can only manage one band, don't over-do it though, the last thing you want is to turn a supportive partner against your hobby. Whatever you do, keep that drummers contact info.
7. Quote from their Facebook: "bass players are weird, amazing but weird" Bizarre, I feel awfully ordinary after reading all that sh*te.
8. I think people need to be careful about stating their experiences as if they were objective facts that would hold true in any situation. Personally I've always had great experiences cutting through with a jazz bass - far more so than with a precision. I found the precision would often get too thumpy/woolly under an overdriven guitar, and had a tendency to disappear completely should I be blasphemous enough to stray any higher than my A string. I use a sort of mid-scooped sound (with a jazz bass) and I think it can work effectively if you do it properly and don't make any boosts/cuts that are too extreme. I tend to cut either side of ~400Hz rather than just killing all the mids, which creates more of a 'W' shape than a smiley face. Gives a great blend of punch, clarity, and thickness, in my experience, and definitely doesn't get lost in the mix (on stage or out front).
9.
Is it here yet, just wondering when you first ordered it, as i ordered mine on the 9th November and Alex said it would probably be delivered pre-Christmas but haven't paid final balance yet. I got my Streamliner sitting on its own with nobody to play with.
Well, I ordered my Super Twelve T/V on the 23rd September. I was asked for the final balance on the 7th of December. It should have been shipped today, to arrive tomorrow (wishful thinking) or some time between Christmas and New Years. So I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.
10. They're only available in the States since Guitar Center purchased them, as far as I'm aware. Never seen any modern ones this side of the pond.
11. You get some egotistical plonkers at gigs sometimes. We had a guy at a a crappy pub gig a couple of months ago start taking the piss out of our guitarist for not putting an unnecessary guitar solo in everything. He had an AC/DC t-shirt and was air-guitaring and such, made no attempt to conceal the fact he was the fairly stereotypical guitar-is-the-only-instrument-that-matters sort of guy. He started chanting "Angus" between songs at one point. We considered actually just playing some AC/DC I think, but in the end our drummer just started chanting "Aberdeen" back at him in a Scottish accent which I suppose is just as good.
12. Hi Joe... thanks! They're 40-100 gauge nickel rotosound roundwounds. I don't know the specific name, this is the box they come in: I've been using these specific strings for a few years... love the feel and sound. As I understand they're the same as the standard Rotosound Swing Bass strings, just a little cheaper for the lack of the red winding at the ends which is supposed to keep them in tune better, but I never find any problems with tuning on a decent bass without them and I prefer the appearance of the plain ends. Plus being a little cheaper helps given how often I like to swap my strings. Cheers
13. It really pains me to put this up for sale, but unfortunately I just need to free up some cash somewhere what with the time of year and unexpected bills and such and it's this or my jazz, which holds too much sentimental value for me to be able to move on. I'm half-hoping it doesn't sell really, but not sure what I'll do if it doesn't. Anyway... this is a stunning bass. It's made in Germany in 2009, which as I understand it is the last year they made them in Germany before outsourcing production to Korea with the ProSeries basses. I also understand that it's the first year since the mid-90's they were made with the much nicer (in my opinion) slim necks. Consequently it's a fantastic condition (really can't find any blemishes on the bass at all) German-made Warwick Corvette with a slim neck - a bit of a rarity really. The bass has a solid bubinga body, ovangkol neck, and wenge fingerboard (the Warwick trademark woods really). It's got the MEC jazz pickups and 2-band EQ (bass/treble boost/cut). It was set-up recently by Chris McIntyre (formerly of the Bass Gallery in London) and really is a joy to play. Sweet low action and just great to play across the board. The German build quality really shows on this bass - some say the Korean made Corvettes aren't of the same standard... I can't pass judgement as I haven't played one, but I do know that this is an outstanding piece of kit, at least on a par with any of the basses by Fender, EBMM, Spector etc which I've owned in the past (and usually went for a lot more money). It's also a real looker as I'm sure you can see in the photos (the grain on the wood has to be seen really, but I've tried my best to photograph it). The amount of comments I get from people who normally wouldn't even give anything to do with the bass player a second glance about how nice this thing looks speaks for itself really. Here are the photos: And for those curious about the tones it can produce, here's a video I did a few weeks ago comparing the sounds of this bass to my jazz bass: Also included is an aftermarket hard-case and the original user guide with allen keys, Warwick beeswax etc. Pick-up from Leeds preferred but I'm happy to ship if you're too far away. Looking for £550 for this one. Cheers
14. I bought a Warwick Corvette from Gavin, a great guy to deal with... an effortless transaction. He got the bass shipped out to me the next morning despite being as busy as he was. Can definitely recommend.
15.
And the reason for this is that songs are being produced and mixed for mobile phone speakers.
I'm not so sure about this. To be honest I think that a far more likely explanation is that it's a result of the loudness war. It's getting beyond the point of ridiculous now, everything that aims to be commercial is being brickwalled and digitally clipped into oblivion just to be louder. I've been reliably informed that a couple of mastering engineers have started to high-pass tracks or just cut some of the low end because that means the track will be perceptively louder (lower frequencies require more to sound as loud, the same reason we've been using amps that have far more wattage than guitar amps for so long). It stands to reason that if the bass parts in said music are so unimaginative and dull that they're simply a few root notes to pad out the sound, if they're going to effectively remove all that from the track in the mastering process anyway, why bother to record them in the first place? To my knowledge certain radio stations do this too. I'm also not sure I've observed a great deal of tracks that are missing the bass (not that I spend too long listening to commercial radio where I can avoid it). There's often a lack of the bass guitar, but I suppose it depends on the timbre they're looking for in the track. Most of these synth-pop instrumentals that seem to be quite popular are going to sound better and be easier to knock together if they just use a synth for the bass part. Doesn't mean there's no bass, just that there's no bass guitar... which really is no different to them using, say, an upright bass.
Kids today do not care about electric bass
I just can't echo that sentiment at all. I'm 20 myself (came out of school a couple of year ago) and there were plenty of kids who were learning to play bass (and drum, and guitar). The scene is still very much alive, it's just there's other scenes running parallel to it... which honestly is fine. Perhaps even more interesting is that nearly all of the people I know who listen to mainstream radio chart music are middle aged women... I honestly hardly know any people of my age (or a bit younger) who listen to any of that stuff. Take that how you will.
16. I'm not even completely sure I want to do this yet, but I'm starting to get curious about exploring other options in the microhead world (got some GAS for the GK fusion micro stuff). This is mint, owned by myself since new for a year or so. It has been gigged a fair few times but has been transported and stored in a tough shock-proof foam-padded hardcase so hasn't taken any knocks or anything. No issues or anything. It's picked up one small blemish somewhere which is miniscule (can't be any bigger than a mm) and only noticeable if you look for it. I can't even remember where it is, I just remember noticing it a while ago, but I'll check and try to photograph it when I come to getting photos up (which should be tomorrow morning). Also included will be the unused Genz Benz Shuttle gig bag. Looking at the going rate of these and factoring in the condition I think £375 shipped would be a fair price. You can have it for £360 if you fancy collecting it from Leeds (although unfortunately if you want to try it out you'll have to use my headphones or bring your own cab (I'm currently without cab after recently selling my Barefaced Compact on here and about 6-7 weeks into the wait on my Super Twelve T). Photos to follow.
17. Just finished this at last today after getting the BadgerEffects Schism following the advice of the helpful folk in this forum... it's not the neatest job ever but after a few cable ties nothing's going to budge.
18. Yeah, I use the ASIO drivers, at least within my DAW. Here's a screenshot showing my audio configuration in Reaper (left) and in Windows (right).
19. I have all of my computers sound going into my interface. I think it's through sending the direct sound in your audio properties into the interface. Any sound on my PC goes into my interface, Windows sounds, YouTube videos, games, music players etc. I usually practice by taking guitar pro files and muting the bass to use as a backing track and then running my bass through AmpliTube. I'll be able to be more helpful when I'm at my PC and not just on my phone.
20. Shame, if you still have this when I move on my compact I'll have it off your hands then.
21. There's one trade I might accept as I've got some GAS and just booked a few well paid gigs through December... I'd quite like a Warwick Corvette. It's got to be a standard one (single coils) and I'd like for it to be fretted, 4 strings, and bubinga. It would be even better if it were one of the 2009+ ones made with the slimmer neck profile. So basically probably a Pro Series Bubinga 4 string fretted Corvette.
22. Unfortunately this is for sale only! When I pay for my Super Twelve I'm going to need to move this on just for the money... unless British Gas accept Ashdown?
