Anyway here we have the swamp ash body with it's poly base coat done. Looking good if I don't mind saying so!
Looking good mate! I love the slightly tweaked J Bass shape that Jon does, can't wait to get some pics of mine once it gets underway... Cheers, Eude

  6. Hi Finbar, the bass is looking amazing and that pickup is a monster! Can't wait to see the finished article, I love these build diaries... Cheers, Eude
  7. Cheers Guys, I'm really looking forward to this one, well as I would with any custom bass I 'spose... I guess you're right Si, it will kinda be a "pocket jazz" Hadn't thought of it like that, the aim is to create something very light though, but with a lot of low and warm mids, hence the Walnut body and the use of Mahogany in the neck. Basically it's gonna be very similar in shape to this (Mike's recent J Bass) >> With the vibe of this (i.e the slab top and the all black everything) >> Work's not even started and the wait is already agonising, and yes this is Shukerholics Anonymous... I'm gonna have to get one of those Shuker T-Shirts I reckon too Cheers, Eude
  8.
Yes, tell me about 33" scale and how it affects the sound and string tension? Do they move around more?
Hey bud, The 33" scale... I don't really notice much difference, to be honest, in tension, which I imagine is down to the luthier involved in the manufacture of the bass. It is probably slightly softer, however, I just upped my string gauges from 130-100-80-60-40-30 to 130-105-85-65-45-35 but moved to DR Sunbeams which are a bit softer than regular strings. I chose that scale length to just make things that little bit more comfortable, as I ain't the biggest guy in the world. One thing that is a bit different though, is the upper register of the bass on the higher strings sounds, at least to my ear, a bit sweeter, with the right touch it kinda swells a little bit like a fretless. Cheers, Eude
  9. Well I've just done gone and put down the deposit on my next Shuker Bass. I wanted something a lot more understated than my lovely 6 string Single Cut and something that can provide a very different sonic palette. The 6 string does modern, massive and aggressive very well, but I can't really get a nice traditional Jazz Bass tone. Also in my band, I'm not really using all 6 strings to their full extent so could get away with a 4 string with occasional detuning of the E string to D. I've gone for the 33" scale again too, as weirdly, 34" basses feel a bit big now! I reckon this is one Shuker that bass_ferret will approve of... Anyway, here goes with the spec... 4 string J Bass NECK >> 33" scale 5 piece mahogany/wenge laminated neck Slim profile, just like a regular Jazz Bass Rosewood board 22 Medium frets Two way truss rod Carbon fibre reinforcement White side dots only Maple headstock veneer, sprayed black Brass nut Satin finish on neck (gloss headstock) Shuker version of Fender style headstock i.e. 4 in line String tree (possibly a bar one across all 4 strings to keep consistent break angle on all 4 strings) BODY >> Downsized J Bass shape (like Mike's recent J Bass) Black walnut body Polyester base coat Black polyurethane wet look gloss Slab finish (with slight radius on top but larger radius on rear like on my Single-Cut) Rear Routed as the body won't have a scratch plate or a control plate Control layout yet to be determined GUBBINS >> Black hardware Individual bridge units Standard Shuker Gotoh GB7 tuners (4 in line) Sadowsky Style knobs (if we can get hold of them) Side mounted jack EMG JV pickups and electronics vol /vol /tone Very very excited about this! It's fairly simple so hopefully I'll have it for some of our summer gigs! Any thoughts, comments, questions? Cheers, Eude
  10. Aha! It's my old Electric Upright! Brilliant instrument, I just wasn't using it hence selling it on to meester Jebo. I imagine it's pretty much a marmite instrument, but it plays and sounds real nice. Oh, and it is a one-off and it was indeed built as a prototype, as a precursor to the compact headless uprights Bassix did a while back. Have a bump on me bud! Cheers, Eude

    SOLD
Hi, Would you be interested in a trade with a Guyatone SV2, a DOD 250 reissue (modded for true bypass and LED) and cash for the Microsynth? Or either one of the two for the Muff?
Hey Joe, I thought you might be interested in the Microsynth because of the way you split your signal, so you'd be able to make full use of it. I'd be interested in the DOD 250, but I'm not sure about the SV2, not sure where I could use it in an acoustic rock band I might be happy to let it go for just the DOD and a wee bit of cash, as it's just been gathering dust for a the last couple of years anyway, would be better if it was getting used.. Nobody else has shown any interested in the Microsynth though, so I'll have a think about it and get back to you, that cool? Cheers, Eude

  20.
Exactly what it says on the can.... I've been loaned an SYB-3 by an ex-bassplaying friend, and although I'm looking forward to just experimenting with it when I get home tonight, I wouldn't mind knowing what i'm actually doing. Can't find it on the Boss site, so I was just wondering if any of you fine upstanding fellows has a copy that you could email to me
If you go here >> http://www.rolandus.com/support/ Go to Product Manuals, you'll get it in there. You'll have to register to get in, and spoof an American phone number to get through, but it's all in there. Cheers, Eude
  21.
Five sides of second cab built. Baffle cut out. Voila! Alex
You're going to have to get hold of a Digital Camera mate. Would luv to see this develop... Especially your mini monitor style cab. Cheers, Eude
  22. Hey guys, I'm selling a couple of EHX Pedals. First up is an EHX Big Muff - SOLD Here's the money shot, for all you perverts out there... Had it from new for about 8 years now, I think. Still go the wooden box that came with it too. It's in pretty good nic but it has been gigged. I'm not going to have a stab at what type it is or anything, as I always seem to get it wrong, so it's just a big black muff, OK? Looking for about £35 + postage for this. OK, this is a weird one, an EHX Microsynth - SOLD It's this one Actual pics... Again, this has been owned from new for about 8 years too. Got the box for this too, think I have the original instructions as well... It's been gigged, but it's in good nic too, although, a couple of the rubber slider tips are missing, I'm sure they can be picked up easy though (or nicked off something elses... ) It works not too bad on the bass, great for massive squelchy noises, funky stuff, octaves up and down, and square wave fuzz etc. however it doesn't track very accurately below the A string, although it's better with a passive bass, this can however be used for just crazy noises though. It's pretty much identical to the Bass Version in everything else as far as I'm aware, however I think the bass ones tracks down to the low E string. Oh, it also uses an odd power supply, I think it's 24V, which requires a Euro Adapter, I'm sure you could get a regular plug one from Maplins though, I've just been lazy. Not sure what to ask for this, I've found ones on ebay upwards of about £100. Lets say £75 + postage to start with and see where it goes... I'm totally open to offers on these, if you think the prices are too high then please let me know too. I'd prefer cash however, as far as trades go, I'd be interested in a Boss OC-2 or a AW-3 EDIT******* Oh, totally forgot I've got a Behringer TU300 Tuner to go too - SOLD http://www.behringer.com/TU300/index.cfm?lang=eng I'm not going to lie, it's not brilliant, but a decent stop gap. It won't tune a 5 string, unless it's got a High C Rather than a Low B. It works fine on passive 4 strings, especially if you use harmonics to tune. I've had it about 5 months and I paid £20 for it. I'll take £5 + postage..... Cheers, Eude
