1. plus music like most things is something where the nicer you are, and the nicer you are to work with then the better you do generally. You say you "could" act friendly and professional. I suggest you lump it and just be nice and smile and don't let it get to you and learn the habits that mean when you are 40 you will be a good guy and musican to work with rather than a grumpy old fart
 2. okay. I think I'm going to keep this for the mean time. The bass is still there but the lack of even low ball offers makes me think that theres nout interest at all in the JV. The Yamaha is still available but I'm going to keep a separate sales thread for that once I've got the pictures. cheers Luke
 3. don't worry about it. It saves you money. At some point (and for me it was linked to my hair starting to disappear at a young age) you go into music shops, they are nice and friendly and throw basses at you to try- and if you ask to try the £3000 bass they have they say "of course" - then you realise you don't have the money to spend on all these nice basses.
 4.
Price now £225
would you be looking for trades at all?
 5.
I'm not saying preCBS fenders are bad quality, just that there wasn't any craftsmanship involved and the whole production process was very pragmatic. If anything their pragmatism probably adds to their appeal. But the point you make about the poor quality of the seventies Fenders causing people to reconsider older instruments is a good one too.
ironic really- so much electric guitar and bass design and construction followed the fender "craftmanshipless" direction rather than the more crafted direction Gibson were going back at the time - the irony being I guess is that modern music has been defined by these instuments and the way they are produced. There is an irony in people then going back and making "crafted" versions of the same mass produced basses! The whole point of the design was to be cheap and easy to make in a factory... and now we can go out and get a exquisitly crafted hand built version of the same thing too.... bit daft really
 6. hmmm... this one again! I almost bought this in moon guitars once but it had sold by the time I got there, then later it ended up in CC music for ages and I got to try it out.
 7.
Ha ha - mine's the 12" remix. :-) CB
that's not what she told the rest of us afterwards
 8.
People don't seem to allow for inflation and other variables.
I had noticed this!
 9.
This thread TOTALLY reminds me of a man dressed up in a Nemo costume:
is that warwickhunt?
 10. Hello I picked up a bass POD as part of a trade, I don't do much recording and it's not something I would use live. I used to have the XT live one too and compring them both this is bit nicer and simpler to use, not all the fiddling that I used to do on the floor based one that made me sell it. £60 I've also got up a Yamaha BB300 and my beloved JV Squire. Luke
 11.
Yammy pic(s) please? Cheers.
will take some later today BTW if someone's interested in the JV feel free to PM me an offer- I can only say no, and if it lets me get the bass ive seen, well I'll be happy! Also got a POD on sale if you want to add that into the mix
 12.
you want how much for the squier??? just kidding - i am aware of ric's preachings regarding the value of these fender badger squiers did they originally retail at £99 like their fellow squiers "investments" r a wonderful thing don't u know
Not that much more than your JV jazz.... I thought they were £200 back in 1983? I dunno, i'm thinking Rick's preaching might not result in someone wanting it enough buy it so I can pick up the other bass I've seen, which is fine- if this doesn't all work out I can live with that! Taken apart from the "value" it's a better instrument than an awful lot of the similarly priced usa standards.
 13.
lol yeah probably a good idea. All the best with a speedy sale. Gorgeous P-bass that one.
still is!
 14. CMI were a brand from some company... the same guitars could be found with CLS branding... and imnotbassassinbutprettysure came from the factory that made cimars... so there is a link to ibanez there. This looks late 70's - ply body probably heavy - and for under 80 i would consider it. Bare in mind that a vintage modifed squier is about £150-180 secondhand and i've just stuck up a japanese BB300 for 120 in a hard case... and no this isn't such a great deal unless it plays great.
 15.
Excellent thread - I shall be interested to see pictures of the finished bass. And unfortunately (and noting your comments about making it clear in the build it's a repro - I'm sure there are others not so alturistic when big money is involved), it scares the hell out of me thinking about buying a pre CBS - although I also know quite a lot of the recognition points on these basses.
says pre-CBS on the headstock init?
 16.
Did the Yamaha come via Horizontalste, by any chance? If so then the added pup and selector switch probably came off my old BB450.
nope, bassistclem
Hi Luke, So the JV is £1200? Sorry If I'm being slow: didn't seem clear to me
yeah, I've stuck it at the same level as his. Offers would be considered, heck if someone wants it they can have the yam too at half price. as i write this I should probably find out if the other bass is still available...
 17. Hello, something's come up I would like to buy. Before I did I would have to sell this.... lovely bass- cracking condition. Same price as Ricks, £1200, including a hardcase (not perfect condition) plus postage if you need. These are shooting up in value, for the quality I can see why. Questions can be answered lots more photos here: http://s1230.photobu...497/LukeFRC/JV/ amazing bass, if my dream bass hadn't come up then I would happily keep this forever! As the dream bass won't be on sale for long this ad will be coming down as soon as it is sold. I wouldn't sell this otherwise. Obviously no trades! cheers for looking! [Back up to see if any interest
 18. My dream bass, forgive me if I don't advertise its presence! Not fender though
 19. Tonight I could very easily be persuaded to let my JV go -so I can get something that just popped up on ebay.
 20. one of these would improve it maybe? http://mosesgraphite.com/productpages/mp-144-p-bass-4/
 21.
I simply don't agree. I have been collecting and writing about vintage Fender basses for over 30 years. A chunk of my collection is in the Fender Golden Age Book by Foster and Kelly, and I have owned pre CBS basses in almost all the colours (Sonic Blue, Fiesta Red, Burgundy Mist etc), and never in that time have I heard anything negative from collectors about Black. Quite the reverse in fact. Black is super hard to find, and few people have seen real ones. I'm not sure I would take the experience of a '68 Tele Bass as a guide, as few people are looking for those in any custom colour, let alone Black. We really must inhabit different universes! Johnny
I am thinking though maybe if you wanted a black pre-CBS fender for less than you thought Rick would be a good person to talk too? But enough of this- can we see some of your collection?
 22.
Fantastic bargain, these are superb, superb basses & i agree that it's the Jazz to the Stingray's Precision. Seriously, someone needs to snap this up & now - well, either this or that butcherd Warwick .
and butchered warwick man isn't offering romantic station carpark meetups!
 23.
Glad to be of assistance. I only know all this because I almost bought one but ended up buying a Thumb NT of the For Sale on here instead.
early thumb that too!
 24.
That is such a key point.
I think if you do listen to a lot of stuff it's easy to forget, my flatmate has a degree in music and can just create melodies in his head that flow and work- he can then play them in pretty much anything he touches. I hear them and maybe get them out if I'm lucky- or I have a sense where I can improvise based more on where I wnat to go rather than what the chord shape is. But we've all met people who just can't hear it. They know the songs but going off chart, or making new stuff isn't going to happen - I link that down to listening
 25. not everyone listens to enough music to be a good musician.
