1. When the Premature Ejaculators were gigging, it was a must to be drunk before playing - kind of like a band rule.
2. From a quick google, it looks like the FS01 is non-latching/momentary. Most guitar amp channel switches are latching, so just make sure to get a non-latching one. I know BOSS do both kinds and they have LEDs but they're probably £30+.
3.
Is there an OFF/ON effect indicator light? If there is an off/on light does it recognise the "Clean" Patch as being off or on? Without being able to visually see whether the effect is off/on live on stage I image is going to create problems. I'd hate to start playing bass in an acoustic song and suddenly come thundering in with some accidental bass-fuzz and then have to switch it off inappropriately mid song. I therefore thought that a separate channel switch which has an off/on LED indicator will eradicate the problem of not VISUALLY knowing whether the effect is off/on on the B2.1u or not.
If your clean patch is A2, it will display A2 when you're on clean. If your distortion patch is A1, it will display A1 when you're on distortion. So, when your guitarist counts in the nice quiet acoustic number, make sure it's on A2, and you'll be fine. I can see why some people might prefer an ON/OFF LED but personally i've always been fine to use it this way. As far as I know, with an external footswitch it will behave how you like, but just check in the manual - you can download it for free from the zoom site and do a Find (CTRL+F) for "bypass".
4. It's been a while since I read the manual, but yes, I think that's correct. Like I say, personally i'd prefer to just create clean patches at every other position. This means you don't have to carry around the extra channel switch.
5.
"it'll sound loads different when there's people in here" No it won't...
It depends on the venue. A local venue to us changes dramatically. You can only really use the soundcheck for monitor levels as the FOH sound has to be done once the crowd is in.
6. You have to remember the patches. They all have a letter and a number. So, you might set A1 as your dirty sound, A2 as your clean sound, A3 as your filter, A4 as a copy of A2, A5 as a chorus etc etc The display displays the letter/number combination.
7. I think i've answered this in your other thread. Anyway, just to add, you can plug a channel switch into the EXP input to use as a bypass switch if you want.
8.
The Zoom B2.1u seems pretty good from what I've seen online so far, but how is it in a live scenario? How do you turn a pedal sound off and on? From the online videos it looks like the left foot switch goes down the bank of sounds and the right foot switch goes up the bank of sounds? Also how many combined sounds can you use at once?
You basically have to set up a series of patches, and each one of these patches has one or more (or none) of the effects modules activated, with your settings saved. Then you switch up and down the patches. If you set every other patch to a "core sound" it makes it pretty easy to use in a live setting. It has a couple of drawbacks - I don't think you can use the synth and drive modules at the same time for example. It's worth having a quick read of the manual, as you'll HAVE to if you buy one.
9. I often use sounds that when solo'd are horribly dirty, but when in the mix just sound very bright and punchy. In the case of the DB maybe it'd be best to just add dirt to the upper mids, as perhaps then you'd be less likely to introduce feedback..?
10. just butting in as i'm a big Les fan... I think you could recognise Claypool's style through any rig, but style is not tone. He's had so many different tones over the years. Of all the players I can think of, he's the last person i'd expect to read "the tone's all in the fingers" about. He uses all manner of basses and effects and has created such a wide variety of tone over the years... Unless you were a musician I doubt you could tell it's all the same guy.
11. I bought some speaker leads from Nick. They arrived as soon as humanly possible, in great Nick, just as described. Cheers!!
12.
Hysteria is another good one..I know how the sound is made, most don't, but I am not going to open that can of worms here.
have you been to the muse board?
13. Some bands sync all their pedals to the same tempo, but i'm not sure how easy that is
14.
...my new band's very Elbow/Mogwai/EITS kind of stuff so I use reverb effects A LOT! Truckstop
cool! Sounds like some of the stuff i'm doing, but I always tend to use delay as opposed to reverb. I don't even think I have a reverb pedal!! Maybe my zoom does reverb
15.
Reverb! Truckstop
Really?!? What do you use that for? I always assuming you were playing really heavy stuff - it's funny what impression you can get from just a little picture!
16. Have you tried any multis?
17. maybe you have the noise suppressor because you like a high gain setting on one of the dirt pedals. If you put the pedals in the loop of the NS-2 the gating function works better.
18.
I use the Dist setting Gain at about 2 o clock Volume at 10 o clock Treble at 11 o clock Bass at 1 o clock Freq between 11 and 12 Contour at 4 o clock It's a very extreme and unusual setting, but has great results! Very fuzzy almost Cliff-Burton esque sound when used on its own, or coupled with the Sansamp its an insanely aggressive driven sound. To my ears it actually sounds better than a distorted VT bass!
Interesting, thanks, i've only really used low gain settings on bass. I'll try to get it fuzzy some time!
19. It talks about two footswitches but I can only see one? Does it have USB? It's a very cool idea.
20. What does it send over USB - a stereo mix, or each individual input?
21. heh, to be honest I tried to do the same thing. I couldn't seem to assign the exp pedal to anything other than default settings. I got rid of it as the menu system was driving me nuts.
22. Downer Yeh it was in December. My friend saw them in London. I saw them earlier in the year as well, it's such an amasing live sound. Sorry!!
23. Heh, I don't know what i'm doing!! I just play until it sounds right. Cutting loads of highs, boosting high mids, careful compression etc all seem to do the trick.
24. Just to add that emulated amps are not by default sh*t. Also, i've had great results recording a clean DI'd guitar and adding distortion and EQ afterwards.
25. I'm looking at a new PC but on a very tight budget. Ideally i'd keep my M-Audio Delta cards, but they're 32bit PCI (not PCI-e or -x). does anyone know of a pretty modern motherboard which has at least 3 32bit PCI slots?
