We were supposed to play "Vudu" in Birmingham on Saturday. We drove all the way down there only to be told it was cancelled. You'd think the first thing to do would be to phone the bands and let them know

more high mids and play harder! The keyboard player wants more attack in your sound, i'm sure (if he's a decent musician) he won't care how you go about it.

I get my pedals set right at rehearsal and then leave them at gigs. If I need to make a change at gigs, it's to my whole sound, so I do it on the amp's graphic EQ.

Boss LS-2s seem to go used for £60ish

yeh a compressor is for taming peaks, not for boosting a signal. If you're happy with your tapping technique, it just needs to be louder, then a booster is exactly what you need. Sometimes an EQ is more appropriate than a booster if you only want to boost certain frequencies.

Just bought a TB looper off Shep, got it two days after payment, nicely packaged etc. you can't get better than that.

you have to have pedals that go in the feedback loop surely? But yeh a feedback loop with a distortion pedal in will make some weird noises for you. If you could afford to get a multi effects, like one of the plastic Zoom units, and then put that in a feedback loop, you'd have loads of fun. Analog delays will make an oscillating tone which can be useful.

I love playing with a pick [i]and[/i] fingers. I use both as well as loads of pedals to create loads of different tones. Limiting yourself just to one is fine for some bands I suppose. I recorded a band recently, and the bassist who always played fingerstyle at gigs used a pick in the studio. I asked him why and he just said "I don't know, it just sounds better when I record" and he was deffinitely right. It all depends on the song/band/sound in question I suppose.

I love my peavey TNT although I do pair it with a guitar amp. If anyone wants to hear the rig mic'd it's on myspace.com/nologorock One day i'll hopefully get a Tmax head. I play drums in a band and the bassist uses the above rig. I once asked a fellow bassist from the audience what he thought of our sound, and the first thing he said was "yeh, I never like the Peavey sound". WTF?!? It's got an EQ on it! It's not a set sound!

It sounds like I might have used the wrong term or something. I thought this bass had one string one octave up, and another two octaves up, for each string. It looks like it actually has 2 strings, both one octave up from the main string. fair enough! It's still the same as me turning my whammy on plus 1 octave with some chorus after it for the entire practise. That's pretty mind-numbingly obvious to me.

I've played with some people I would have in the past described as "less than musical" but your guys are something else.

I assume it's a 6 string bass with octave up strings? How the hell could they not notice the octave up on everything you played? It's fair enough not caring about what bass you're using, but if I played a whole practice with my whammy on +1 I would hope at least my band would notice!

I used to use the line-input for years until I bought a proper interface. It was a little noisey, but not too bad. I'd always use a pedal as a pre-amp but it will work without - just use a VST amp

I bought some cables from Ian, they arrived the next day all packaged well etc. Perfect!
