4.
I use a Babicz in one of my basses and never had problem palm muting when using a plectrum. Much more comfortable than resting your hand on the standard Fender bridge.
I agree... BUT Maybe you should try Hipshot A style (brass) or BadAss? I have tried Babicz and I was not very happy with it! It supposed to be BadAss killer but it is not...
5. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-guitar-strings-four-five-six-acoustic-flatwound-/390302054764?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item99ac6d6a12 this brand has very good quality for the price.
6. Alnico - Jaco Ceramic - Richard Bona you can see what's the difference more less without going in details (I know - both of them are using single coils but that's even better for hearing the difference). 1) Nordstrand 2) Seymour Duncan 3) Delano 4) Bartolini. As I stated in other topics - I prefer Alnico magnets, ceramics have more "artificial" sound.
7. Depends on the date I may pop in with my gear We can have a small chat as well We'll (hopefully) come to the UK within first week of November.
8. you have to apolgize me, I'm from different country. That's the reason sometimes it can be difficult to understand what I mean, but I'm doing my best! In my first language we describe an instrument as a "deaf" if it's rubbish, well, it's very difficult to explain, but you should know what I mean, like saying "jazz bass neck is fast" is very hard to explain but people know what that means. Anyway, depends on West Midlands Bass Bash date I may pop in with my gear We can have a small chat as well We'll (hopefully) come to the UK within first week of November. I don't dis EMG - they're OK, but you have to be aware what are they made for and when you want to use them, I would say 8/10 I'd rather be using passive pickups on Alnico magnets. When EMGs are better than my favourites? For example 1) double thumbing - Victor Wooten style (because of the dimension where they work), 2) playing in places where you have bad electricity - they will be better, 3) another one is adding J EMG pickup to passive P pickup and mixing it - usually I CANNOT STAND mixing them together, my point of view is the only one in a time - but it sounds more less ok mixed passive P with active EMG J. But when they're rubbish? Answer is very easy - 1) every studio situation, 2) adding some distortion to them, 3) harmonics - all of that because of the poor midrange. I'm sure that there will be some people who'll fully disagree with this but really, I'm no bothered, it's their thing how they sound. I'm sharing my knowledge (not myths, everything what I'm writing here was already checked in professional studio) and don't want to force anybody.
9.
I disagree with most of this but each to his own! The P-Bass is NOT the most versatile bass ever made. Rather the opposite. It has pretty much one sound and degrees of that sound and that sound works in 90% of music. IMO that doesn't mean versatile, versatile to me means being able to do many different things. A P-bass still sounds great though Also, EMG doesn't mean distortion... It's hardly like Victor Wooten has a hard driving sound? Ask Dood, he'll tell you EMGs sound really glassy bright snappy treble with a big bottom end very smooth and punchy. And that thing about 80's stuff i'll excuse... The Yamaha will cover all genres mentioned above, sounds great in the mix in Jazz, Metal, Pop i've used one for them all and it sounds ace in my opinon. ^^^ All of the above IMHO!
Well, you've just prooved that it is very versatile, cause it fits in most of music genres, like jazz bass Read again what I've wrote about EMG's And I do not have to ask anybody about EMGs - my experience and people who I worked with it's enough. I'm maybe a litlle bit rude with saying that, but I'm just tired arguing with arguments like "listen to... he'll tell you THE TRUTH about EMGs and Spectors..." or using as an example records, where there's no bass
10.
Where are you getting this crap from? Spector basses have long been hugely popular in metal. If Alex Webster plays them and Modulus basses it must surely speak for the quality of Spector. I'd go for the Spector basses. The other two are good, but not in the same league as the Spector in every respect. The Euro basses are some of the best 'production' basses around.
Alex Webster's sound is not good, sorry mate. It's covered by distorted guitars and drums Try to listen by your ears not by brands you can see on instruments, it helps a lot have you ever heard word ENDORSEMENT? Sandberg - it's a lottery. Like with Music Man you can easily get a deaf one... I've heard/played quite a few deaf ones, but when it's good - it's good, and I've heard/played a lot of them sounding well as hell!
11. depends on music you play. If it's plastic music from the 80's, then treat yourself with spector other than that - go for Yamaha. I owned japan trb, it was very nice bass, extremely well built. spector IS NOT GOOD for metal music!!! and active emg pickups ARE NOT GOOD for other style than Victor Wooten double thumb, as a sound engineer I have to say it - they sound like sh*t when I have to put distorted bass in the mix... And now If I may suggest something: If you want to play heavy music - go for G&L If you want to play pop - Lakland on Bartolini pickups or Stingray (but there is a lot of "deaf" MM stingrays on the market, beware! - I owned 4 of them and only MM Cutlass from 1979 was ok, rest of them made between 1993 to 2009 was deaf ) rock, reggae, pop, jazz and soloing - Jazz Bass (apart from reggae music focus on bridge pickup instead of both) If you have no clue - Precision Bass. IF PBASS IS NOT FITTING IN YOUR BAND, CHANGE YOUR BAND NOT BASS! it's most versatile bass ever made Hope this helps
12. SWR head, nothing can beat them! http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c1f72f9a7 and 1) peavey 2x10 cab, somebody is it selling here for 30 pounds, needs repairing but it's very, very good cab! or 2) hartke 410 TP or XL - I used them until bought myself Aguilar 3) http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4aaeffcc0e
13. Fenders made after 1965 are on the bottom of vintage bass prices (CBS era). £2k is ok, but you need to make sure is it 100% original! It CANNOT be refinished for this price! Lacquer is one of the most important things that make old Fenders sound soooooooooooooo good! edit: why somebody KILLED that 1962 Pbass?
14. Jazz bass bridge pickup: 1) 70's - 808mm from nut (fretboard edge) to the centre of polepieces 2) 60's - 798mm from nut (fretboard edge) to the centre of polepieces Measuring from frets is a mistake because you have different fret size (narrowed, regular size, jumbo), it's more accurate when measuring from nut's edge as I did for you I modified my 1964 Precision Bass by adding J pickup (60's position) but I hate mixing those pups, I'm using just one in the time. 70's sounds better mixed but still I don't like it. What people usually do is putting J pup even further than 70's position (for example 814mm), but when using just J pup is RUBBISH then, it's more less ok when using both, but still - Pbass is Pbass, when you whant using both pups, go for Jazz Bass. That's my point of view as a recording engineer and as a bass player.
15. I own this octave pedal and I must admit - it's the best of the beast! I will sugest changing pedals places in your chain. bass - wah - octave - od - ef - amp. tuner needs to go into amp's tuner output or get the true bypass modification if you want to keep it in chain, otherwise it sucks life out of your bass! octave pedals are usually very fussy about input signal and I struggled with mine until putting pedals in THE RIGHT ORDER hope this helps mate! PS - if I were you, I would true bypass odb-3 as well... but that's off topic.
16.
Hi folks, the EBS Wah One is one of the very best Wah-wah pedals for bass guitar that you can find. I got this from another basschat regular only a few weeks ago. Having upgraded to the Stanley Clarke model, this is now surplus to requirements. It's not boxed - but is nearly mint. I paid £90, but will take £80 (collection preferred - but can post if necessary). I'd be very happy to consider trades too - generally the more unusual, the more interesting it is to me. I'll try to get some pics up later - but I am sure you all know what one looks like by now! - Nick.
fancy Aria Steve Bailey Signature 4 string fretless & passive + some cash from your side mate?
17. Health & Safety @ Leicester College. Apart from music I'm fully trained nurse, but I'm making more money as a musician. Me & my wife have been in South Wales, it'a absolutely gorgeous! Llanelli, Swansea, Caer Myrddin, Port Talbot, you're lucky to live there mate
18. wow, wasn't expecting that Mayones popularity in the UK! my friend in poland is selling one of them - http://basscity.eu/thread-3-post-140888.html#pid140888 it's a prototype, give him a call! ( he speaks very good english)
19. my friend says "I can't afford buying cheap stuff" and 9/10 he's right. If you want cheap but decent ones, try Wilkinson (Vintage basses are armoured with them)
20. I know how old Tokai's are What I meant is - depends on which version this bass is copied - Jazz Bass from sixties or seventies, the bridge pickup is placed in different position and it wants to be checked. BTW - pickguard is already off! very good! And depends on which Fender you mean LukeFRC - their Elite products after bridge, pickups and modifying into passive still sound great, like those made in seventies! Only Fenders made after 1985 are rubbish
21. Hi guys! Originally I'm from Poland, but I've studied in the UK between 2006 and 2007 and pretty soon ( oct/nov) we'll be back and stay here for good! Destination - Warwickshire Cheers!
22. checked many many Mayones basses. Necks are "fast". ...I don't like the way they sound.
