  1. I contacted Jon about building an RD style body with a bolt on neck and 3+1 tuners. He said that it would be possible as long as it sticks to the basic Fender build style. I am currently making body and headstock templates at home. As has been mentioned, Jon runs a 1to1 course where more complex builds can be made. It's probably best to speak to Jon with regards to different timber, but Jon is happy to supply whatever hardware you would like so I guess different woods would be no problem, although there maybe extra cost. I already have the pickups I want to use, so Jon said he would supply the specific hardware I want at no extra cost.
  2. My first bass was a Hohner Rockwood LX300B. As far as I know, it is still under a bed at my parents house, in one of those plywood cases that is twice as heavy as the bass.

  10. If you can get the item from Thomann, they charge £8 postage costs on orders below £135. If the total order is under £135, Thomann will collect the UK vat, so you don't need to pay the courier any handling fees in the UK.
  11. I think someone on here sent their Warwick neck to Manton Custom Guitars for a truss rod replacement, but a can't find the thread.
  12. A year 2000 model should be the non removable righty tighty lefty loosey type truss rod. It will be a dual action rod, so as the neck goes straight when not under string tension, I am wondering if it is doing anything at all. Without strings, is there a point when the adjuster spins without any resistance? There can be a point where the nut on the truss rod moves between pulling and pushing. It may be a stiff thread and you are at this point. Its a fretboard off job to replace though.
  13. Thanks for your reply. It is the strength that is my concern. My initial headstock design gives me 13mm of wood between a 17mm diameter hole and the headstock edge, without any overhang of tuner or washer, and plenty of knob turning room.
  14. Hi, I'm hoping some of the more experienced builders here can give me some advice. What is the recommended or minimum distance from the machine head hole edge to the edge of the headstock? TIA Verb

  16. Thank you. I see what you mean, the headstock is also a bit like the Warwick/Status Buzzard , but in a more restrained way.
  17. I came across this photo, and was wondering if the headstock belonged to a production bass?
  18. I did have one of James Hetfield's but it's long gone, and I did catch one of Alice in Chains bassist Mike Inez' picks but gave it to the youngster I was with as they collected stuff like that. Not a plectrum, but at a Soundgarden gig Ben Shephard took off his bass during the last song and gave it to a member of the audience.
  19. I'm not very far into it yet, it will take me a while. Yes the fills and the fluidity are the sticky points.
