  1. If this Precision is available to you at a good price, you have another option. Buy it, then sell at a profit and use the cash to buy the natural bass that you really want.
  2. It all depends what you want from the finished bass. If you want something that looks, plays and sounds like a vintage Fender, there's only one solution
  3. I find it amusing that market values put a premium for fake damage on new basses, but also put a premium on mint condition for vintage instruments. Isn't there a conflict in that? To me - and it's purely my opinion - relicing on a bass is the same as asking for factory scratches to be put down the side of your new car.
  4. That's a stunner! If I hadn't just invested in a new amp, I would be in for this!
  5. Heart of the sunrise or similar by Yes. Scrumptious!
  6. That's a stunner! Have a free bump.
  7. You're lucky. I wish I only had one bass on my Must Have list
  8. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEAVEY-T40-ELEC-BASE-GUITAR-00453172-/331080976892?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4d15f6c9fc
  9. That is stunning. I am just going to check my lottery ticket.
  10. I've had two 4001s, and rate them as "unique". Both were (are?) great basses - if you like Rics. My current '79 model was my go to bass until someone sold me a Warwick with best neck I have ever played I use a pick, so the cover is not an issue. The sound is unique, and the neck is slim - perfectly playable. I have not noticed neck dive, but will admit that the machine heads are not smooth and regular. Hope that helps.
  11. Where are you based? Maybe some kind-hearted member could drop by and take a look.
  12. Me too. It was a decent instrument, but still a Rockbass
  13. As far as I know it was a bog standard - I picked it up off ebay a few years ago. There was no case, and they even came round to collect it!
  14. I have GAS for most basses with 4 or 5 strings. I need help
  15. I have just sold one for £150.
  16. I did take a look at that one. I think it's designed as a Gibson replacement rather than for a Tele/Precision type/#.
  17. Thanks for the article iiipopes. It seems odd that the pickup is fitted to the Squier series, but Fender can only supply the horrendously expensive version fitted to the Pawn Shop series (unless they use the same, of course).
  18. Try the series of demos starting with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te44eWXd9pc They should guide you through a proper setup, doing it all yourself.
  19. I'd love to give it a whirl!!
  20. Billy - it's for this model of bass: The cutout is 79mm x 52mm. There are four fixing holes, 88mm apart across the pickup and 32.5mm apart along the puckup edge (if that makes sense)
  21. Thanks for that, Mog. It seems that they are no longer making that particular pickup. Ah well - it was a nice idea
  22. Hi everyone I have acquired some parts for a new bitsa, including a Tele/Early Precision body with a cutout for a humbucker. Does anyone have suggestions for a decent pickup to go directly into it? Cheers Greg
  23. Seriously - at 425 Nutter 101's Corvette looks like a steal. Please buy it soon, or I may have to!
