1.
Allow me to be the first of many to recommend Obbm's cables to you He is a member on here and his cables are fantastic and great value too! Edit for link to his site: http://bassic-bits.co.uk/
+1 Can make to any spec too, as far as I can tell
2. I set the gain stages to sensible levels, about 50%, then knocked up the master volume up to about 1/3 for a laff... shook the windows! And that's only 1/3! It's not about volume though, it's about headroom in the right places. My last amp didn't have enough oomph for HUGE LOWS so I'm guessing this one does
3.
Everything Monolith Cabs may build! Here's their 4x15"
150 lbs / 68 kg... !
4.
That is an epic rig! How do you run both at the same time? Is it something to do with the max series channels?
The MAX series have 2 channels but only one power amp so they can only drive a (minimum) 4 ohm load. The 12 amps (this 12.2, and the old 12.0) have dual power amps each of which can drive a 4 ohm load, so you can have more and/or lower resistance speakers. They have separate outputs. So, one power amp drives the 8 ohm compact and the other drives the 4 ohm S12T for a sound of DOOM!
5. Something has arrived in my dingy garage as of about half an hour ago! It's one of these, Mated to some of these, A close up of the head... ... and the whole stack! First impressions: wow! Nice sound, straight out of the box. You can EQ in some huge variety of sounds there but flat it sounds pretty good anyway with a passive Shuker jazz. More impressions later after some more playing!
6. Whatever the cabs are, the RH450/750 can handle under 4 ohms, i.e. 2.66 ohms. That's three 8 ohm cabs, or a 4 ohm and an 8 ohm. I used a Barefaced compact and S12T, 8 ohm and 4 ohm respectively, from my RH450, sounded pretty good.
7. In after an Eden head and have a TC Electronic RH450 to trade if interested?
8. I don't think the value really matters, so if it plays well (i.e. you enjoy playing it) and it sounds ok then all is well. If the bass isn't worth much (sub-£200?) then one might even feel more comfortable being more relaxed about the playing and handling style and this might even enhance the performance! That said, both my main basses probably have a 2nd hand value of around £900-1000 but I don't let that bother me much. After all, I've never had serious damage to a bass so I guess these things are just designed to be manhandled a bit!
9.
I love these amps and it's so easy to fit them in the gigbag of my bass. I have a more powerful Epifani UL902 but the TC Electronic is so easy to use and sounds just great.
Yep, they are small, light, built like a tank and sound great. Plus they have EQ presets accessible using the face buttons, which is great if you use multiple instruments, like I do, but can't remember the settings for each!
10.
Here you go http://basschat.co.u...on-sound-clips/
Thanks!! I mostly use an active preamp to boost the mids so the dusty end stuff cuts through better when I want it to. Would the J-retro cover me for that? Also, what is the output level? I have an active Ibanez with a level that is about the same as a passive bass and I think that's great. Does the J-retro have a trim pot or something like that?
11. I'd be interested in hearing what the J- retro is like - I'm thinking about augmenting a jazz of mine. Also, is the circuit the same as in all e others, ie. the U-retro etc? The specs seem the same from the web site. Thanks
12. Thanks all, for your replies. I wonder where I could get one of these things though - they seem to be like hen's teeth. Another one I'm considering is the ShuttleMax 12.2 but that's expensive.
13. Bump for an old thread ... something has taken my fancy so it's time to move this on!
14. Hi Basschatters, I've got a TC RH450 that I feel like moving on from. I have a 4 ohm and 8 ohm cab (Barefaced ) so I need a cab that goes down to2.66 ohm or lower After some research I have singled out the Eden WT550. I was just wondering what people's opinions on this head might be. From the TC, I often can't get the sound I like. The problem varies but it can bento enough mids or highs usually, and not much warmth. Would the Eden head fix this? Also the TC is built like a tank. What's the Eden build quality like? I have heard varying reports. Thanks! Edit: I play heavy rock stuff generally! With some dusty end widdling!
15. Jellyfish, aka Chris, bought a bass from me - great guy to deal with, great comms and totally reliable, etc. Was formerly known as ChristopherGilbert, feedback thread here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/167973-feedback-for-christophergilbert/ Thanks Chris, hope you enjoy the bass for years to come
16.
Maybe you need a cab with a tweeter/horn?
I still have treble troubles even with a Barefaced Super 12 T(weeter)!
17. I used to have a 5er, and detuned the B string to A. The weedy B string was far too flappy and loose to sound any good. So I replaced it with a .145 and all was well. This got me to thinking - many people seem to look for a 5 string with a "good" B string - apparently some 5 stringers don't have a good B. But is this just because the gauge of the string is wrong? Would these "bad" 5 stringers be completely fixed just by adding a thicker B string?
18.
don't most shops include FREE P&P for orders over £200? BSB
For next day, but not for early (i.e. morning) delivery which is a bit extra - so you can take a half day instead of a whole day off to wait for delivery, for instance. PS. nice bass!
19. I have a RH450, which is very similar to the Staccato '51. I struggle to get enough trebly bite and "clang/twang" out of the amp so I think it's just the nature of the amp I'm afraid. I sometimes use an EQ effect pedal that boosts treble only so you could try that.
