Wow, very rare! Lovely find.
Thanks Ts - about only 100 built, I think.
Lovely wood colour. Interesting shape. I wonder why some of the electrics are not functioning.
Thanks Aidan - I'll call round with it next time I'm over Darlo' way. The body shape is quite similar (??) to the F-Bass (photo links below) and was known as the 'Wing' (or Wing ii) bass The neck is exceptional - as is the unique neck/body joint. I'm guessing that the SD system is not original. Most seemed to have Bartolini pickups and EQ (Vol, Pan + 3EQ, so 5 knobs). Some idiot seems to have drilled an extra hole (into which I've put the switch - better than just a hole?!) and the EQ has been changed to the SD-stc3p (I think) which has a stacked B/T, so another pot effectively becomes unused. I'm thinking what to do re. the excess of knobs/pots/holes as generic systems don't usually run to 6, so it might have to be something custom(ised). Been after one of these instruments for as long as I can remember. It plays great, but requires some work (aesthetic) and I might change the p/ups-EQ (all SD Bassline) as the bottom knob + switch do nothing (!). Current EQ is Vol-Pan-stacked B/T - Mids. Exceptional neck & tone (even with the current p/ups/electronics). Already ordered a new Schaller 2000/5 bridge in Black. I could return it ('item not as described') but will probably keep/improve it, as they're hardly ever seen, even on the USA sites.
It's still for sale under a new listing: http://www.ebay.co.u...016.m2518.l4276 There's something really dodgy about the bidding pattern on this. I don't know the story but my alarm has been rung. Be careful...
agree - this was previously listed and removed by ebay. I got the following message. : We think eBay account gwa7957_t4ntchye has been used without the account owner's permission .... (etc.). The description is awful and doesn't really sound like a genuine Wal owner, or bass player of any kind. As it's COC there's less worry, but I wouldn't go alone and hope it's not too long a journey to Ponders Green (NE London ?). I think this is the third or 4th listing (currently no bids) :- http://www.ebay.co.u...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1966-fender-jazz-bass-/141896992736? bona fide? .. didn't think the block necks were about then? Messaged re. the 2 bolt/screws missing from the tuners assembly; amazing if they've been like that for 50 years !! Sorry if mentioned before - had a look/check but couldn't find the same bass...................

This is a bargain, and a great P bass. I got it via a trade against my Lakland 4402dlx. and Aidan got to see/play it before buying it for the £650 it 'effectively' owed me. It was in good condition, played nicely and came with the Fender case. I wasn't aware of the ususual nature of the flamed body - Aidan sourced that info and has also spent a lot of time perfecting the frets and micro-cleaning the bridge etc. I'm not sure as to whether the body was swapped later or if it was the type of thing Fender did at various times (using existing stock parts that may not have been originally intended to go together). Previous owner was very genuine and had owned/played the bass for years.
